Mahishmati was ablaze with celebration. The coronation of Bhallaladeva as king had been a grand affair, rich with ancient rituals and steeped in regal symbolism.
Golden banners fluttered from tall minarets, flower petals cascaded from terraces, and the skies echoed with conches and drums. Yet, amid the exuberance, Queen Mother Sivagami Devi's expression remained impassive.
The gleam in her eyes did not match the crown she placed on her elder son's head.
For Sivagami, this was not the perfect resolution she'd envisioned. The people's cheers had not been for Bhallaladeva.
Their chants, their adoring eyes, and even the soft murmurs of the royal guards had all whispered the same truth—Amarendra Bahubali was the people's prince. Their hero. Their ideal king.
She had tried to dismiss it, to justify her decision as being for the kingdom's long-term stability. Yet, now, as Bhallaladeva sat on the throne and Amarendra stood to the side in his shining armor as the newly appointed Senapati, the truth was impossible to ignore. The people had chosen differently in their hearts.
It is not that she is jealous because of Bahubali is commanding more respect than her son Bhallaladeva because she love both of them equally.
But, now she can't understand nor accept the fact that Bahubali who respect and love her so much would choose to oppse her decision.
In fit of anger she had changed Bahubali who was supposed to be King to Senapati. But she can still see that people want Bahubali as their King.
Still she doesn't want to change her decision as that will give massage to people that she doesn't have that much power anymore or she is not as strong as she used to.

Three weeks passed. Festivities gradually gave way to court responsibilities.
As Mahishmati adjusted to its new king, Sivagami made another crucial decision—one she believed would secure loyalty and bridge two kingdoms.
She proposed the union of Amarendra Bahubali and Princess Devasena of Kuntala. This time, there would be no miscommunications. Sivagami herself sent the message through trusted messengers.
Amarendra was overjoyed. Devasena, after consulting her elder brothers Jayvarma and Virendra, agreed. Jayvarma, the wise and pragmatic administrator, recognized the alliance as one of power and safety. Virendra, ever observant and calculating, saw it as a chance to better understand Mahishmati's power dynamics and to protect his sister in a court where danger did not always wear armor.
Virendra and Devasena stayed in Mahishmati, preparing for the marriage. Virendra began subtle movements within the court, observing courtiers, advisors, and military captains. His ability to detect lies gave him an advantage—he learned quickly who remained loyal to Sivagami and who held silent disdain for Bhallaladeva's rule.
Rather than confronting them, Virendra used his silver tongue, whispering carefully crafted promises of trade, land, or promotions. Within days, a small but growing circle within Mahishmati's court and army had begun listening to him.
---
The day of the wedding arrived. It had been three weeks since Bhallaladeva's coronation. A giant pavilion was erected at the center of the royal gardens, decorated in silks of gold and crimson. Priests chanted hymns as nobles from across the land arrived with gifts.
Sivagami Devi stood regal, yet stiff. Though she had given her blessing, she was far from pleased. Her son's bride was now to be her younger son's love. It felt like another silent defeat.
Amarendra, in his ceremonial armor and silken robes, looked every bit the gallant prince. Devasena, radiant in a bridal saree woven with peacock feathers and gold, held herself with grace and dignity. She was not submissive—this was a union of equals.
The people of Mahishmati rejoiced. They adored Bahubali, and to see him united with a warrior princess only deepened their respect.
Even Bhallaladeva played the part of a dutiful brother, offering warm smiles and a congratulatory toast during the feast. Yet Virendra, sharp-eyed and quietly seated at the corner table, noticed the flicker in Bhallaladeva's eyes—the shadow of suppressed bitterness.
Jayvarma, having arrived just days before, embraced his sister with tears in his eyes. "You have always been more than a princess. Now you are a bridge between two great kingdoms."
Later, as the stars shimmered above Mahishmati, Virendra and Jayvarma prepared to return to Kuntala. Virendra took one last walk through the royal corridors, leaving behind whispers of influence, allies with unseen loyalties, and the knowledge that Mahishmati's greatness, though vast, was not unshakable.
He had plans. And should Mahishmati ever turn on his sister—or his kingdom—those plans would blossom into more than whispers.
