Our gazes met for a moment as I stood there awkwardly with Mei grabbing my arm.
Eventually, I finally decided to say something since I noticed that her patience was beginning to wear thin from my silence.
"Yo?"
Her eyes narrowed.
"Did you just 'Yo?' me?"
"Yeah."
"... Do you perhaps enjoy electrotherapy?"
"I dunno. I never really tried it."
Maybe it wasn't the best thing to say at this moment as her arm slowly moved up to my shoulder.
I immediately recoiled in faux dismay as I hugged my body.
"What are you doing? You can't be thinking about doing such things out in the middle of nowhere!"
That made her blink for a moment as she folded her arms and placed a hand on her chin.
"Hmm, I suppose that choice of action could have been easily misinterpreted."
"Yup!" I pointed a finger up. "Men need to protect themselves when they're outside."
She laughed softly.
"From who? The wild Herrcher who is planning on performing electroconvulsive therapy? I think it would fit you, after all…"
Then suddenly, her mirth disappeared.
"You were attempting to stab that vine into yourself, correct?"
Well that shut me up for a bit.
I looked away for a little bit before I made my rebuttal.
"No?"
She sighed.
"You're such a terrible liar."
"Hey! I'll let you know that I can lie with the best of them! I'm just… errr…"
"Unsure of what to deflect to?"
"Yeah!!!" I nodded confidently. Then I realised, "Wait, no! Mei! You're reading my brainwaves or something!!"
It was her turn to look away nonchalantly.
"You're just easy to read."
I snorted.
"Hmph. If you're done bullying me, I'd like to go back for a nap now." I turned around and prepared to clasp my hands. "Goodbye, adios and see ya late-"
"Not so fast."
Purple chains made of electricity crackled into existence as they wrapped around me. Infinity's block failed due to the quantum energy she talked about.
Though I could have easily broken the chains, I didn't do so. The lightning was surprisingly more of a warm tingle rather than something painful.
I wonder how she did that?
"Would you mind saying woof?" Mei asked teasingly, the cord of the chain in her hand.
"You're not even bothering to hide it anymore…"
In response, she waved it off.
"Well if I can't change your mind, I might as well play along."
"So what do you want?" I sighed as I found a nice piece of rubble to sit on.
There was really no point in deflecting any more. With how the other Mei was acting right now, I really doubt that she would let things go without making a fuss.
Sure I could ignore her and just leave, but then Mei herself would know about it and get worried.
Then after that, she might tell Kiana and the others, then I have to do a lot more explaining.
That's kinda bothersome so I might as well come up with something now that I was caught.
Hmm wait…
Why did I even need to answer anyways?
I honestly could just ignore all their questions and keep quiet?
But I suppose…
I suppose that I didn't really want them to get angry about this.
It would be… annoying…
The electrical chains disappeared as I felt a small warmth beside me. Glancing to the side, I realised that Mei had already taken a seat as well.
"I'm curious. Why were you attempting to harm yourself?"
She didn't look at me. Her eyes were just closed.
"I wasn't." I said with a straight face. "I was trying to see if I could trace the attacker through the vine."
"Tracing?" Her eyes opened. "Then should you not have requested me for help instead of doing… whatever you were doing?"
"You can do that?"
"Of course. I can feel the general direction of the other awakened Herrscher-like figure in the city." A sneer formed on her face. "And that faker."
Herrscher-like figure?
Faker?
She turned her head to look at me and raised a finger.
"The faker is the person you're looking for. And as for the other one…" A wide smile appeared on her face. "I'll keep that a secret for now."
Wat
"Do you… perhaps have a reason for that?"
"Yes. Someone has dissatisfied me through his lies." She proudly looked away. "I shall overlook his insolence for now but do not expect for me to forgive him that easily."
I did not change my expression.
Did she mean my lies previously?
Or was she accusing me of lying now?
Sigh…
Women are so hard to understand… especially smart women…
Well when all things fail, let's go back to the basics.
"Who was it!" I shouted angrily. "To dare anger the Queen of Thunder! How daring! He should kowtow a hundred times to pay for such insolence!"
"Hmm, that is a bit excessive even for me." She said in mild amusement. "But I think a woof would suffice."
"Woof woof."
"... You actually did it."
"I might as well."
She shook her head with a soft laugh as she stood up, brushing down the back of her skirt as she did so.
"Let's go."
I didn't react to her words for a second.
That made her turn her head around.
"What are you waiting for? Do you not want to find the faker?"
"We are going now? Shouldn't we tell the others first? This might be a huge fight." I pushed myself off the rock.
"A huge fight with me around? Are you looking down on me?"
"Of course not. You're so strong and have only been beaten by one person(me of course)."
Mei did not have a reaction to that.
"Hmm, I suppose you do have the right to gloat." A gentle smile that I would normally attribute to normal Mei came on her face. "You did beat me after all."
"Orite!" I clasped my hands. "See ya at Theresa's!"
And then I disappeared from the scene.
Raiden Mei was left standing alone on the road, the darkness beginning to take over the scene as the moon came into the sky.
Her gaze remained on the empty spot that Gojo Satoru once stood, her eyes dull for a moment.
And then, she sighed.
"What are you hiding from us, Gojo?"
She stared at the vine that he had been holding previously.
"I really hope you weren't doing what I thought you were…"
There was a clap of thunder and then she was gone.
With only smoke being the proof that she was once there.
