Chapter 16 - door to marvel world

Barbara Minerva stood in the ancient Egyptian tomb, her cheetah-enhanced senses picking up every detail. The walls were covered in hieroglyphs that seemed to glow faintly in the darkness.

"This is it," she whispered into her communicator. "Master Rowan, I found the artifact."

The object sat on a stone pedestal - a metallic disc with strange symbols that definitely weren't Egyptian. It pulsed with blue energy.

"It's not from this world," Barbara said, reaching for it carefully.

The moment her fingers touched the surface, the tomb shook violently.

High above the desert, a cloaked figure watched through ancient eyes. Shayera Hol, the Thanagarian warrior known on this world as Hawkgirl, had been tracking the energy signature for weeks.

Her wings folded tightly against her back, hidden beneath her desert robes. No human had ever seen her true form - she was careful about that.

"Primitive humans found Thanagarian tech," she muttered. "This could be dangerous."

She activated her wing harness and dove toward the tomb entrance.

Rowan appeared in the tomb just as the ceiling began to crack. Barbara held the alien artifact, her eyes glowing with excitement.

"Master, this technology is beyond anything Earth has created. It's definitely extraterrestrial."

"Good work," Rowan said. "But we have company."

A figure crashed through the tomb's roof, landing gracefully despite the debris. The woman threw off her robes, revealing powerful wings and ancient armor.

"Drop the device, humans," Shayera commanded, her mace crackling with energy.

Barbara hissed, her cheetah instincts kicking in. "Who are you?"

"I am Shayera Hol of Thanagar. That artifact belongs to my people."

Rowan stepped forward, his eyes glowing red. "Your people left it here. That makes it ours now."

"You don't understand what you're dealing with," Shayera said, raising her weapon.

The battle was swift and brutal.

Shayera's combat training was superior, her mace sending energy blasts that cracked the stone walls. But Rowan was faster, using his vampire speed to dodge her attacks.

Barbara flanked her, using cheetah speed to strike from behind.

"Two against one isn't fair," Shayera growled, spinning to block both attackers.

Rowan took several hits from her mace, electricity burning through his body. His clothes were torn, blood seeping from multiple wounds.

But he kept fighting.

Finally, Rowan managed to grab Shayera's wing during one of her aerial maneuvers. He yanked hard, sending them both crashing to the ground.

"Got you," he panted, pinning her down despite his injuries.

Shayera struggled, her wings beating frantically. "Let me go! You have no idea what forces you're messing with!"

Rowan's fangs extended. "Actually, I think I do."

He bit deep into her neck, injecting his vampire essence while simultaneously drawing her Thanagarian blood.

The effect was immediate and intense.

Power flooded through Rowan's body. His back erupted with new appendages - large, powerful wings with black feathers and metallic edges. His bones became hollow yet stronger, built for flight.

"What... what did you do to me?" Shayera gasped weakly.

"Made you part of my family," Rowan replied, his voice deeper now.

The transformation magic flowed into Shayera next. Her skin paled to a silver tone that caught the torchlight. Her eyes shifted to amber-gold with crimson slits.

Her wings changed too - the primary feathers darkened to black with metallic sheens, some membranes becoming more bat-like. Crimson streaks appeared near the edges.

Her body became sleeker, more predatory. Longer legs, leaner waist, joints that moved with cheetah-like flexibility.

"How do you feel?" Rowan asked, helping her stand.

Shayera examined her hands - the claws were sharper now, like steel talons. "Different. Faster. Hungrier."

Her voice carried a slight growl. The vampire transformation had awakened predatory instincts she never knew she had.

"I can hear your heartbeat from across the room," she said wonderingly. "And smell the iron in your blood."

Barbara approached cautiously. "Is she one of us now?"

"Yes," Rowan said. "But she's special. Vampire physiology with no sunlight weakness. Cheetah speed combined with Thanagarian flight. She's the perfect aerial predator."

Shayera tested her wings, folding them into mist then reforming them. "These abilities... they're incredible."

"You work for me now," Rowan said simply.

For a moment, Shayera looked like she might resist. Then the loyalty magic took hold.

"Yes, master," she said, bowing her head.

Meanwhile, in a secret laboratory of Rowan thousands of miles away, Dr. Harrison Wells stared at the swirling energy portal that had just opened in his particle accelerator chamber.

"Impossible," he whispered. "The calculations were off by years."

The portal crackled with blue-white energy, showing glimpses of another Earth - one where the skyline looked different, where the very air seemed to shimmer with alternate possibilities.

" Master rowan, I've opened a doorway to another universe," he said into his recorder. ""

The portal pulsed brighter, as if something on the other side was trying to come through
