Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Line Between Concern and Love

POV: Female Lead (Doctor)

Luna couldn't stop thinking about it.

The image of Mark Watson gripping his chest, his usual sharp demeanor replaced with vulnerability, was burned into her mind.

She had always seen him as annoying, arrogant, and emotionally unavailable. But that moment had shown her something else—something deeper.

He wasn't just a cold CEO.

He was human. And he was hurting.

---

A Change in Luna's Behavior

From that day forward, Luna found herself watching Mark more closely.

When he walked into a meeting, she noticed if he looked too pale.

When he sighed after a long phone call, she noted if he subtly rubbed his chest.

She wasn't obsessed—just concerned.

That's what she told herself.

"You're hovering," Mark muttered one afternoon when she conveniently bumped into him near his office.

Luna crossed her arms. "I'm making sure you don't collapse again. You're welcome."

He gave her a blank look. "I don't need a babysitter."

She smirked. "Good. Because I'm not your babysitter. I'm your doctor. And guess what? I get paid to care about your health."

He narrowed his eyes. "You're an intern. You don't get paid much."

Luna gasped dramatically. "Wow. Did you just insult my salary? That's low, even for you, Mr. CEO."

His lips twitched. "Then stop hovering."

She leaned in slightly, lowering her voice. "Make me."

Mark stared at her for a long moment. Then, with a small huff, he turned and walked away.

Luna grinned.

Progress.

Mark 's Internal Battle

POV: Male Lead (CEO)

Mark knew what was happening.

He had spent years building walls around himself, and now, Jung Ha-neul was breaking through them.

And worse?

He was letting her.

Every time she smirked at him. Every time she found a way to bother him under the excuse of 'medical concern'—his defenses cracked a little more.

And that was dangerous.

Because luna didn't do love.

Love was painful. Love was watching his mother die while holding his hand.

Love was a weakness he couldn't afford.

So why did he feel strangely at ease whenever luna was around?

Why did he let her hover instead of shutting her out completely?

---

The Moment He Realized She Was Different

It happened one evening when Mark was working late.

He had been ignoring his symptoms again—his chest felt tight, his vision a little blurred—but he told himself he could push through.

Then his office door swung open.

Ha-neul stood there, arms crossed, looking furious.

"You skipped your check-up today," she snapped.

Min-jae sighed. "I was busy."

"Busy dying?"

He shot her an annoyed look. "Dramatic."

She stepped closer, her eyes dark with frustration. "Listen, I get it. You think you're invincible. But you're not. Your heart condition isn't something you can just ignore."

Mark expected her usual teasing.

Instead, he saw real worry.

Not just the professional concern of a doctor.

But something more personal.

His breath caught for a second.

No one had ever looked at him like that. Not his father. Not the doctors who had treated him all his life.

But she did.

And it terrified him.

Luna's POV: MARK WATSON Is an Idiot

luna had seen many stubborn patients in her life. But Mark was the worst of them all.

"You're impossible," she muttered, rubbing her temples. "I should just strap a heart monitor to you 24/7."

Mark leaned back in his chair, smirking slightly. "Kinky."

Luna blinked.

Then, she grabbed a pen from his desk and threw it at his head.

"Ow," he muttered.

"That's what you get for being a pervert."

Mark chuckled.

And for the first time, luna realized something.

She wasn't just worried about him as a doctor.

She was falling for him.
