Chapter 9 - The Bridge

Like the other landings, they got to the fourth in three hours. This landing made no sense. The landing was split into two by a body of water. People stood on each side of the landing. When they entered the room Oroc and Amir went to the right.

The Brooker, Art, and Aria went to the left. Immediately they got there, they were welcomed by the residents. They hugged and offered them food.

None of them accepted because of what happened at the third landing. Art had something on his mind.

"Below the horn blows at six hours intervals in the day. So at 6 in the morning, then noon. Then 6 in the evening, then midnight." Art said and The Brooker nodded.

"How long does it take us to get to a landing?"

Art asked, then looked at Aria then The Brooker.

"Three hours," Aria and The Brooker both said.

"How do we know it's three hours? The first landing felt less than three hours." Art asked, then opened a page in the diary he was reading.

"I don't know how I know but I know is three hours," Aria said with skepticism.

"This is the journal of Morry Seed a prominent climber. She writes in the journal about this inconsistency. If it takes three hours to get to a landing, why has the horn sounded three times?"

"So it takes six hours to get to a landing. Why does that matter?" Aria asked, then looked at The Brooker.

"It means the concept of time is relative in the tower. It means we can spend weeks or minutes here. Compared to outside where the concept of time is structured." Art said, then held his head and sighed.

"Hey, calm down. We will be fine." Aria said she held him by his shoulders.

"Why are you not freaked out? We could end up in a time look or age rapidly while we are in here."

Soon after the horn sounded and Art lost his train of thought.

The Brooker stabbed Aria and Art. Immediately they regained their memories.

"You really should learn how to use the liminal space."

The Brooker said then remembered Oroc and Amir.

"I should probably go and help them." The Brooker said and walked to the doorway. He got on a platform and walked down to the other side of the river.

When he got there they were sitting around a table drinking.

"Hey, welcome, join us."

Amir said, Oroc got up and wrapped his hand around The Brooker's shoulders.

The Brooker took out a light key but before he could stab Oroc. He grabbed his hand.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Oroc then collected the key and tossed it into the river.

"I am sorry, Aria and Art asked me to do it." The Brooker said and hugged Oroc.

"It is fine you are with us now," Oroc said hugging him back.

From the other side, Aria saw them hug.

"Did you stab him?" Aria yelled from her side. The gap between them was about three feet.

"No he did not," Oroc yelled back.

"Why?"

"He does not have to listen to you anymore," Amir said, and then everyone on his side of the river got up.

"Just stab him," Aria said, then looked at Art and frowned.

"Wait, something is not right," Art got up.

"You guys should just come with him." Art said then watched as others on his side of the river got up.

"No, we will not come there?" Amir said and looked at Oroc and chuckled.

"What did they do to you? Thank the gods you were able to escape." A woman said to The Brooker.

"Escape, they let me come here." The Brooker said and they all laughed.

"The West would never do that," the woman said and they all nodded.

"I heard they eat humans," Amir said, and they all nodded.

"When I was they they told me time was relative." The Brooker said and shook his head.

"Don't worry, it is just West propaganda. All lies," Oroc said, then tapped on The Brooker's shoulders.

On Art and Aria's side, a man walked over to them.

"You should not have let your friend go there. Now they would never let him leave." the man said and walked away.

"That's just unfair, they keeping people hostage like that," Aria said, as she manifested her soul weapon. She shot an arrow to the other side.

"Why did you do that?" Art asked, then asked Aria to put the weapon away.

Moments later a bullet grazed his arm.

"Ouch, those savages. That's what we get for letting them live.

Soon both sides built a bridge. They invaded each other's territory. A couple of people fought on a bridge. It collapsed, causing a couple of people to fall into the river.

Art and Amir swam to the doorway. When they got out they watched as the two sides killed each other. They both picked a side, when they got there. They pushed Aria, Oroc, and The Brooker into the river. Then they both jumped inside after them.

They all swam to the doorway and got out.

"I hate the tower," Aria said the moment she got out.

They all got out and continued their climb.
