Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Not Worth Your Sorrow

As soon as the call connected, Xiao Xiao started yelling.

"An Ran, why are you only returning my call now? Do you know how worried I've been these past few days? Did something happen? Oh, I received my acceptance letter from Nan'an University, did you get yours?"

An Ran told Xiao Xiao about everything that had happened in the last few days, excluding anything about that man.

"Damn, she's really not your biological mother. What's your plan now? Ye Sheng is just a trash of a man, not worth your sadness, but you still need to go to university."

Xiao Xiao wished she could fly to An Ran's side to comfort her.

"Yes, I know. So I plan to work part-time to earn my tuition fees. Nan'an University is my dream, I don't want to give up." An Ran said.

"Alright, I support you. When are you leaving? I'll see you off."

After a few more comforting words, Xiao Xiao hung up the phone.

After talking with Xiao Xiao, An Ran was about to turn off her phone when she saw a new message from Ye Sheng via the chat app: Ran, why did you block my calls? I heard you're not going to Nan'an University, are you facing any difficulties? If you have any problems, I can help you. Call me back when you see this.

If it were before, An Ran would have been deeply moved by such a message from Ye Sheng, but now she only found it ironic.

On one hand, he showed ample concern for her, and on the other hand, he was entangled with her sister. Who did he think she was? Someone he could call upon or dismiss at his whim?

Or pity her as an adopted daughter in the An Family, showing her sympathy and charity?

She turned off her phone and threw herself onto the bed.

Right now, she just wanted to have a good sleep without thinking or doing anything, ignoring even the faint sounds of quarreling outside the door.

Early the next morning, when An Ran got up, she saw Sun Xuehui sitting in the living room having morning tea. When she saw An Ran, she set down her teacup and spoke softly, "Ran, I heard from your dad that you're planning to go out to work?"

An Ran looked around; her father An Youcai should have gone to work by now.

Taking a deep breath, she said, "Yes, I understand the situation at home now. I'm an adult, and I shouldn't rely on the family anymore, so I want to go out and work to earn my tuition fees."

She knew that An Youcai had mentioned this to Sun Xuehui, so there was nothing for her to hide, better to be honest.

"Hmph," Sun Xuehui sneered, "Ran, didn't you understand what I said yesterday? We have a family business, why do you want to go out and work? Or do you think the family business is too small to accommodate you?"

"I just want to go out and hone myself." An Ran replied, trying to stay patient.

"Hone yourself? Sounds nice. Aren't you really just trying to leave this family, earn money and go to that university? Or perhaps you're planning to latch onto some rich, handsome guy in university and leave this family behind?" Sun Xuehui's words became increasingly bitter.
