Chapter 9 - Chapter 7 Back to School

In the remaining time, Li Si went on a buying spree in Beijing, purchasing two connected commercial properties—a ground floor with an upper floor—for 2.3 million and 1.8 million respectively. Then, she spent another 1.5 million on a top-floor high-rise apartment over 200 square meters. Looking at her bank balance of over 2 million and five property deeds in hand, Li Si felt she could wake up laughing even from her dreams.

As the volume of fruits and vegetables in her space grew, the issue of storage became increasingly urgent. Luckily, the space had an automatic preservation feature, so there was no risk of spoilage.

One day, Li Si noticed the simple prefab steel houses being used at construction sites and suddenly had an idea. She contacted a manufacturer to order customized sizes, producing over a dozen of varying specifications.

Li Si found a secluded spot in the outskirts, desolate and far from people, and had the houses—including large storerooms and small shelters for animals—delivered to the designated location. Once the workers assembled everything and left, Li Si put them all into her space, then caught a plane back to North City the same day.

If any curious worker had noticed what transpired at that location, it would surely become yet another bizarre mystery case.

Using her spiritual power, Li Si organized the houses into a layout—sorting the fruits and herbs into categories and placing them neatly in storerooms. She divided the orchard and herbal areas into separate regions, while the river's fish, shrimp, and crabs grew in numbers, and even the chickens and ducks were reproducing. She put up fences around them.

Looking at the space again, everything was orderly and well-planned. It was like a tiny world, and the ruler of this little kingdom was none other than Li Si.

Tomorrow was September 15th, the opening day of North City University. Li Si's second uncle had rushed back from a trucking job in another city, and Zhang Meihua had embellished plenty of malicious gossip about Li Si. Her second uncle, Li Guofu, was furious, feeling that his niece was being ungrateful. His elder brother was no longer around, so why was it wrong for him, as her uncle, to want to take care of her?

A girl of eighteen or nineteen living on her own—how could he not feel worried? What if she started dating some boy and picked up bad habits? Wouldn't it tarnish the Li Family's reputation? Besides, his elder brother had worked steadily, dabbled in stocks, and had only one daughter to support; Li Guofu didn't believe he left behind little money.

Leaving such a large amount of money in the hands of a child was simply unacceptable. As her only uncle, it was his duty and obligation to manage and educate Li Si properly.

Moreover, he had some selfish motives. Trucking jobs were thriving lately, especially on the southern route; sometimes he was so busy that he couldn't return home even once in a month. His two large trucks couldn't keep up with the workload. If he could take his elder brother's money, which was just sitting unused anyway, he could invest in a few more trucks or expand into a logistics company. Who knew if he might one day become one of North City's wealthy businessmen?

With these wild imaginings, Li Guofu drifted off to sleep. In his dream, he successfully used his elder brother's money to establish a logistics company, becoming one of North City's prominent wealthy figures.

Everyone flattered and praised him, and later, he even founded a real estate company. Everything seemed so vivid, not like a dream at all but as if it were truly happening. The alarm clock woke him abruptly, and even after some time passed, he couldn't distinguish whether it had been a dream or reality.

Li Si got up early and used eggs from her space to fry a simple serving of egg fried rice. Seeing that it was still early, she leisurely slung her bag over her shoulder and headed towards the bus stop.

The September morning sun wasn't as scorching as midday; it warmed her skin gently. Taking a deep breath of fresh air, she felt a surge of energy coursing through her body. Looking up at the blue sky, which had only a few floating clouds, she noticed the branches of roadside trees where some adorable little birds chirped away.

Tilting her head, Li Si thought to herself that bringing these lively little birds into her space wouldn't be bad—they could make their homes among the orchard's trees.

No sooner had this thought passed than the birds on the trees vanished, leaving only the leaves swaying gently in the breeze. Li Si widened her eyes in disbelief. Oh my god, that was too fast!

She scanned her surroundings to ensure no one had noticed anything unusual and breathed a sigh of relief. She tried probing into her space, and there they were—those little birds perched on peach tree branches, the very same ones from moments ago. Great, she had new additions to her space.

When she arrived at the gates of North City University, the place was crowded with cars and people. Many students were accompanied by their parents, carrying large bags and bundles as they entered. Banners near the gate read, "Welcome new freshmen!"

Walking through the familiar campus once more, a broad smile spread across Li Si's face. Although her earlier experiences here weren't all pleasant, she believed that effort shapes destiny. Since she now knew certain people's true colors, she was determined to handle anything that came her way.

She climbed to the third floor, found the girls' dormitory room 302, and stood at the door. Clenching her fist gently, she steadied the excitement in her heart before pushing the door open. The dorm room was just as she remembered—a four-person setup with blue beds, white desks, and cabinets. Inside, only one girl had arrived first: Kong Dan, who was making her bed by the window on the right side.

"Li Si? You got here quite early too."

Kong Dan turned and greeted her warmly. Following her memories, Li Si walked over to the left-side spot by the window, set down her bag, and smiled in response.

"You're early too."

Although she hadn't interacted much with Kong Dan before, the girl was recognized as easygoing by everyone in the dorm. Since she got along well with everyone, Li Si decided it would be good to maintain a positive dynamic with her.

The two chatted while unpacking. Before long, their beds were ready, and they decided to head out for some food together. At that moment, the door was suddenly kicked open from the outside. A fashionable girl with a princess-style haircut entered, followed by a middle-aged couple carrying bedding and other items. Who was this? Things seemed a little different from her memories.

"Ugh, what kind of dormitory is this? It's so small, and it has four beds? How can anyone live here?"

Saying that, the girl scanned the room, glancing at Li Si and Kong Dan briefly before finally approaching Kong Dan.

"Hey, I'm Wang Shishi from the Foreign Languages Department, newly transferred to this room. Can we swap spots? I don't like sleeping near the door. I'll treat you to a meal, okay?"

Kong Dan pursed her lips, her expression tinged with hesitation and embarrassment. "This bed placement was assigned by the school for incoming freshmen. It's not something we can change easily."

The girl immediately lost her temper. "So what if it was assigned? It's not a big deal! If you don't want to swap, just say so. Stop beating around the bush—you're clearly from some small-town backwater!"

"Honey, honey, let it go. It's not like you'll always stay in the dorm. Does it really matter where you sleep? It's the start of the semester—why make enemies with your classmates?"

Her father tried to gently persuade her.

Her mother, however, glared at Kong Dan and Li Si before stepping forward to soothe her, saying, "Sweetheart, don't get angry. You won't look pretty if you stay mad. The apartment we bought is almost done being furnished; can't you just make do for a few days? What's the point of arguing with these countryside bumpkins!"

Kong Dan sat on her bed, feeling aggrieved, with tears welling in her eyes.

Li Si couldn't bear it any longer. "Excuse me, Auntie, who are you calling countryside bumpkins? If you're so capable, why stay in a dorm? Take the exit to the left outside—it leads straight to some star-rated hotels. Bullying people like this is unacceptable. If you've got the nerve, go talk to the teachers or the principal instead of throwing your spoiled princess tantrums at us!"
