I freeze. My heart does this strange thing inside because I wasn't prepared to see him. Of all people I wasn't prepared to see now, for it to be just the two of us in this car....it was Cesar.
Not tonight.
Not here.
Not like this.
Not while I'm still holding Sebastian's contract and his pen in my hand.
Cesar doesn't look at me. It's as if he doesn't recognise me at all. His eyes are focused on the road, his jaw is pounced, and his hands are fisting the steering wheel like he's trying very hard not to act.
"I didn't know you were the driver.... I didn't know it was you." I say after a long silence.
He snorts. "Yeah. I didn't think so either."
"What is this? Are you kidnapping me? Stalking me? What is this?"
His jaw ticks. "You're the one who got in my car, Casey," he says.
I look down at the contract in my hand as my fingers curl around it.
"I didn't know it was you. If I had known you were the one driving, I wouldn't have...."
