Chapter 162 - Mikoto's Suicide

Uchiha Mikoto's decision to end her life was driven by her deep-seated character.

In the world of Naruto, some women exist mainly to support the men they love.

Uchiha Mikoto and Hinata are prime examples.

Their lives seem centered on loving one particular man with all their heart; they are, in a way, completely obsessed with love.

Without this devotion, their existence feels empty.

On the other hand, you could say they are incredibly dedicated.

In the original story and official novels, Uchiha Mikoto is almost always portrayed as following Uchiha Fugaku's lead in everything.

---

Her husband was her priority, even above her own child.

Hinata is similar.

If her husband and child were both drowning, who would she save first?

Both Mikoto and Hinata would undoubtedly choose their husbands.

Even if their husbands were perfectly capable of saving themselves.

This makes them unable to survive on their own without their partners.

Now that Itachi's future was secure - with Sarutobi Ryo as his Adoptive Father - she no longer worried about her son's upbringing.

This meant she had fulfilled her last wish.

Uchiha Mikoto felt she could now join her Late Husband and be with him in The Underworld.

And so,

Uchiha Mikoto took out the Poison she had kept ready for a long time and drank it all.

...

Sarutobi Ryo heard about Uchiha Mikoto's Suicide attempt in less than half an hour.

He wasn't surprised by her determination.

Fortunately, Itachi had found his Mother in time.

The neighbors quickly rushed her to the hospital, where Nohara Rin happened to be working on the Medical Team.

She took charge of Mikoto's emergency treatment.

Luckily, Nohara Rin's Medical Ninjutsu had improved dramatically under Tsunade's guidance.

She confirmed Sarutobi Ryo's opinion.

Rin had become a skilled medical expert, second only to Tsunade.

Given more time, she might even surpass Tsunade.

With such excellent medical skills and her quick response, Uchiha Mikoto didn't die.

Of course, Uchiha Mikoto being a Jonin also played a role.

Even after taking Poison, she wouldn't die as quickly as an ordinary person.

Her strong body allowed her to hold on longer.

For example, Kankuro in the original story.

After being poisoned by Sasori, he stubbornly clung to life for three days and three nights, waiting for Sakura to travel all the way from the Land of Fire to Sunagakure Village of the Land of Wind.

That's how he was saved.

And the Poison Mikoto took, however strong, couldn't compare to Sasori's deadly concoctions.

With the hospital nearby and prompt treatment,

Nohara Rin pulled her back from the edge of death almost instantly.

Sitting on a bench in the Hallway outside the emergency room, Itachi looked somber, his eyes filled with confusion and sadness.

Sarutobi Ryo sat beside him.

Yashiro and the others, upon hearing the news, were anxious and pacing back and forth.

"Itachi..."

Sarutobi Ryo reached out and stroked Itachi's head.

First, his Father died in battle, and now his love-stricken Mother tried to follow him. This must be devastating for him.

And Itachi must be wondering why his Mother would do this.

Still so young, he didn't understand the complex emotions between a man and a woman.

"Your Mother was deeply in love with your Father..."

Sarutobi Ryo explained gently.

"When you grow up and have someone you love, you'll understand..."

"Yes, Young Master Ryo... no, Adoptive Father," Itachi nodded softly.

He was still wearing the black clothes from his Father's funeral, and now this had happened.

Just then, Nohara Rin opened the door and came out.

She sighed in relief, telling Yashiro and the others that Uchiha Mikoto was out of danger but needed to stay in the hospital for further treatment.

Those who had come to visit sighed in relief, asked a few questions, and then gradually left.

People forget quickly after someone dies.

After Uchiha Fugaku's death, Itachi was well taken care of for a while.

But as time passed, everyone slowly forgot Uchiha Fugaku's sacrifices.

Being alive and being dead are two very different things.

As the crowd thinned out, the Hallway became cold and deserted again.

Though people walked by, no one paid attention to their side.

Until a flash of red appeared: Kushina.

Hearing that her Close Friend had attempted Suicide, she understood but also felt deeply sad.

As a true Good Sister who genuinely cared for her Close Friend, her arrival was only natural.

Accompanying her was Namikaze Minato.

The past few days had been difficult for Namikaze Minato.

Being criticized and questioned by Higher-ups like Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura, he felt unusually anxious.

And now, with this happening, would the Uchiha clan still support him?

Seeing Sarutobi Ryo and Itachi sitting together,

Namikaze Minato's heart skipped a beat; he had a bad feeling.

Sure enough, Itachi stood up, responded to Kushina's concerned inquiries, and finally said, "Thanks to Adoptive Father having Rin personally treat Mother, she's temporarily out of danger..."

Because Nohara Rin was a member of Anbu Squad Six.

And she followed Sarutobi Ryo's instructions completely. Itachi saw this and gradually understood.

He knew his Adoptive Father had used his influence to have Rin personally treat his Mother.

Otherwise, who knew which random Medical Ninja would have been sent.

"Adoptive Father?" Hearing this, Namikaze Minato and Kushina exchanged a look, both confused.

"Yes, Minato, Uzumaki Kushina, I have recognized Itachi as my Adopted Son..."

Sarutobi Ryo stood up and told them.

"Perhaps... it was because of this that Madam Mikoto felt she had finished her duty and chose to follow Senior Fugaku..."

Sarutobi Ryo implied that he felt responsible.

For making Madam Mikoto feel she had completed her task, allowing her to join her Late Husband.

"This isn't your fault."

Kushina knew her Close Friend's child was in good hands, and her surprise turned to happiness.

After all, it was good that the child was entrusted to someone reliable.

It was just... unexpected.

"Well, I only decided this afternoon..." Sarutobi Ryo said, indicating the decision had been made shortly before the incident.

"I see."

Kushina looked at Rin.

She asked if they could go in and check on Mikoto.

Nohara Rin shook her head, explaining that while she was stable, she needed further Detoxification.

She would likely remain in the Hospital Room for treatment until fully recovered.

"Then thank you, Rin."

Kushina nodded, grateful.

She stood outside the Hospital Room, chatted with Itachi, and then left with Namikaze Minato.

She promised to visit again tomorrow.

Sarutobi Ryo watched them leave, then turned to Itachi: "Itachi, it's getting late; you should go back and rest..."

It was now dark.

Being a child, Itachi would naturally fall asleep easily when tired.

Sarutobi Ryo offered to handle things, letting Itachi go home.

The sensible Itachi got up and respectfully said goodbye to his Adoptive Father.

Watching him leave, Sarutobi Ryo remained in front of the Hospital Room.

Until... Late Night.

Sarutobi Ryo got up and slowly pushed open the Hospital Room door...
