Jack's POV
I watched, tears pooling in my eyes as I watched as my grandfather was being prepared for surgery. He had had many surgeries and I wondered if he was going to survive this latest one.
I hoped he did.
Mum leaned against the wall, crying and hugging herself as she struggled to contain her emotions. "Dad, don't leave me."
I cleared my throat and pushed back the tears struggling to break free from my eyes as I hoped that mum's fears wouldn't happen. I couldn't afford to lose my grandfather, not at this time, and it wasn't because of the company that he hadn't handed over to me.
He adored Katherine and I knew without a doubt that he was going to adore my son. I didn't want him to die without seeing the great-grandson he had always wanted to see.
The family doctor walked up to us, his expression calm but his eyes betrayed the pain raging in his heart.
I stepped forward, needing the assurance that my grandfather was going to survive more than anything.
