Having a special ability can be a great advantage for a Pokémon Trainer, but if the wielder cannot fully control that power, it can lead to disaster.
Take Unova's Elite Four member, Caitlin, for example. She was also a powerful Psychic, but after losing a battle, her uncontrollable rage caused massive destruction. Her Psychic power was simply too strong for her to handle, leading to a complete loss of control.
Now, Maen was witnessing something similar happening right before his eyes.
Sabrina had pushed herself too far. She had overused her Psychic energy to the point that she could no longer regulate it.
Maen could see it clearly—her body had lifted off the ground. The chair she had been sitting on was reduced to rubble, and the floor beneath her was cracking apart. Loose debris floated in the air as though gravity had lost its grip.
Sabrina's long hair billowed as if caught in an invisible wind, her eyes glowing an ominous shade of red. Even her Kadabra was affected.
Despite being a Psychic-type, Kadabra's body had its limits. The overwhelming Psychic energy coursing through it was clearly beyond what it could endure. Its expression twisted in pain, and its limbs trembled.
Then, just when Maen thought Kadabra might collapse, its eyes suddenly turned red—just like Sabrina's.
Its body stiffened unnaturally, like a puppet being controlled by invisible strings.
Maen's eyes narrowed.
So she's taken full control of Kadabra…
In the earlier stages of the battle, even though Sabrina was supplying her Pokémon with Psychic energy, Kadabra still had its own will. Now, however, it was completely under her influence.
With eerie precision, Kadabra slowly raised the spoon in its hand. A powerful surge of energy gathered at the star on its forehead, shining brighter with each passing second.
Maen's mind raced.
He had read before that the star on Kadabra's forehead stores excess mental energy. When it reaches its limit, it triggers evolution.
Sure enough, the glow intensified, and Kadabra's body was enveloped in a radiant light.
The next moment, Kadabra had transformed—evolving into its final form: Alakazam.
The newly evolved Alakazam no longer stood on the ground. Instead, it floated effortlessly in midair, its spoons glowing with psychic energy.
But what troubled Maen the most was that Alakazam's eyes were still red. Even after evolution, it remained fully under Sabrina's control.
The inside of the Saffron Gym had turned into chaos.
The immense surge of Psychic energy sent waves of force through the building. The Gym's apprentices—who had been training in Psychic abilities—were unable to withstand the pressure. One by one, they collapsed, their eyes rolling back as they fainted.
Outside the Gym, Sabrina's father sensed the dangerous shift in energy.
Standing at the Gym's perimeter, he could feel the immense Psychic disturbance radiating outward. His expression darkened.
"This is bad… If her power remains unchecked, not only will the Gym be destroyed, but the surrounding city could suffer as well."
Gritting his teeth, he attempted to use Teleport to enter the Gym. However, he quickly realized that his Psychic energy could not penetrate the chaotic storm inside.
For now, he could only stand outside and do his best to contain the energy from reaching the rest of Saffron City.
But inside the Gym, Maen was the one facing the real danger.
Haunter was slammed into the floor in front of Maen before shakily floating back up.
The reason was obvious—Alakazam had reached Gym Leader-level strength, and its power was still increasing.
It hadn't even needed a direct command from Sabrina. With a simple Confusion, it had sent Haunter flying.
At this point, the advantage of type matchups was meaningless. The sheer gap in strength was overwhelming.
Maen clenched his fists.
He glanced at Haunter, then back at Alakazam, who was preparing another attack.
If I hold back now, I won't just lose this battle—I might not survive it.
Since childhood, Maen had always been cautious about his power. He had never let himself lose control, fearing what might happen if he did.
But now?
Now is the time to unleash everything.
He took a deep breath and let go of the restraints he had placed on himself.
The dark energy within him erupted.
Thick, black mist surged from his body, pouring out like a flood. Though it looked like liquid, it was pure, liquefied energy.
Within seconds, the entire Gym was engulfed in the dark fog, shrouding everything in an ominous haze.
Sinnoh Region – Distortion World
Far away, in an alternate dimension known as the Distortion World, a massive presence stirred.
Giratina—the sole ruler of this strange, mirror-like world—suddenly lifted its head.
Something had caught its attention.
A ripple in space. A surge of energy unlike any other.
It watched silently, as if considering what action to take.
Somewhere in the Kanto Region
Deep within the shadows, a small figure emerged.
It was a mythical Pokémon—Marshadow.
This ghostly Pokémon, composed of dark, smoky tendrils, peered into the distance.
It had sensed something… something familiar.
The energy that had just burst forth resonated deeply with it. It felt strangely comforting—like a force it had always been drawn to.
Marshadow hesitated.
I shouldn't leave my post…
As Ho-Oh's messenger, it had an important duty. It could not abandon its responsibility so easily.
But then again…
The Trainer hasn't obtained the Rainbow Wing yet, so technically, I'm not assigned to anyone.
Its hesitation vanished.
Ho-Oh won't blame me if I just… take a quick look.
With that, Marshadow slipped into the shadows and began moving toward the source of the disturbance.

Back in Saffron Gym
Unaware that he had caught the attention of legendary Pokémon, Maen focused entirely on the battle.
The liquefied dark mist he had unleashed wasn't just for show—it was energy.
For most Pokémon, inhaling it would be dangerous, even poisonous.
But for Ghost and Dark-type Pokémon?
It was pure power.
Haunter greedily absorbed the dark energy, its entire body pulsating as the mist flowed into it.
And it wasn't the only one.
At some point, Deino had emerged from its Poké Ball, standing in the corner of the Gym, quietly absorbing the energy as well.
As Haunter continued absorbing more, its body began to glow.
The brilliant white light of evolution surrounded it.
Haunter was evolving!
