Chapter 298 - Chapter 298

Adam paid out 750 caps for the vault suit upgrade and then 1000 caps for the power armor frame bringing him down to 1525 caps in total. Which was not good for the things he would need caps for soon. However he was quite pleased with his purchases.

Deccanus too paid out handsomely, far more than Adam did, in fact far more than Adam has spent here in total, but Deccanus had enough cash to throw around as he pleased so he did so without worry. His armor was worth it though, it was clear Olivia had spent many sleepless nights making it perfect for Deccanus. Deccanus' armor now rivaled Adam's own, pre-war, combat armor. Deccanus' armor might even be better than Salvatore's. Though the argument of which of the three armor's was better was down to preference.

"Before I go…" Adam began as Deccanus paid in full to Olivia, much to her joy. "Do you sell armor for Super mutants?" Adam asked, curiously.

"Well…" Olivia began, lost in thought for a moment. "I don't carry Super mutant armor normally, if that's what you are asking, but I can make some if you want." She then paused to consider. "Something out of shaped metal, mostly, but it would have to be large and easy to put on and off with ease so the super mutant didn't tear at it… maybe some kind of velcro?" She mumbled to herself aloud. She then paused and looked back at Adam. "If you are interested I can start to work on it. It would be a custom job, though not nearly elaborate as your friend's armor there. If you are fine with that I can get to work on it. Though no promises when it will be done." Adam nodded.

"No worries, simply knowing you are working on it is good enough for me."

"Well then I'd say we have finished all our transactions for the day, unless of course you have more you would like to buy." she smiled.

"Oh no, I'm cleaned out." Adam chuckled.

"Shame, well I'll see you next time then."

"Thank you again, Olivia." Adam waved to her before the two of them then left.

Deccanus continued to marvel at his new armor, his old armor now in his bag.

"I'm very happy you like it so much, Deccanus." Adam said with a warm smile to him.

"I am… simply beyond words. This still retains much of the look of my old legion armor however the protection afforded to me is far greater… It's like the spirit of Mars blessed her hands to create such a work of art." Adam looked over at Deccanus for a moment and then chuckled.

"Come on, let's get some food and then call it a day, I think I need to go on a run tomorrow to grab some loot, you will have a chance to test out your armor then."

"Understood." Deccanus said back, letting the matter drop, though not his fascination with his new armor.

Adam spent 37 caps on dinner that night and then went to bed shortly after spending some time reading. The next day he got up, had a semi quick breakfast in the food court for an additional 32 caps and then told all his friends to gather at the APC in an hour.

With the hour he gave himself he spent a bit of time browsing the flea market, looking for anything that caught his eye. He was mostly on the hunt for things that would be of use to the Vault. In the end, after spending an additional 236 caps, he had bought a collection of various parts for the motorcycle, the APC, the generator, and other useful replacement parts for future repairs. Once he was done he had only 1221 caps left. Which if he had no big plans would be fine, however with the expenses that were sure to come this was unacceptable. He had to make a run today.

Once everyone was loaded up into the APC he set off. He did have a destination in mind however he had another stop to make before he did that. The Vault.

By now his APC was packed with things. He had all of Eve's things, the food for the Vault, the movie projector, and various other odds and ends all shoved into the back. With the space now feeling limited and everything in the back going to the Vault anyway he decided going there and dropping everything off was the smartest decision.

After driving for a while he arrived at the Vault and was incredibly impressed with what he saw. Fortifications. When he left the residents were beginning construction on the wall to surround the Vault cave entrance, however what he came back to was much more than just a wall.

The Vault underground passage used to be somewhere inside a coffee shop, according to the note he had read in Second Life HQ. what remains now is nothing much more than a pile or ruble. However, if he were to extrapolate. The space was likely a duplex or perhaps a multiplex with at least 3 floors, judging by the remains of the structure still standing. The only space that still existed of what was likely once the coffee shop was now the back wall. The residents had expertly built the wall to incorporate the back wall of the former building. In addition the building itself still had some, questionably stable platforms, from the remains of the second and third floor. The residents had built makeshift accessways between them all and the ground allowing would-be defenders to have a vantage point. To that end they both reinforced the platforms so they wouldn't fall, and made them far more defensible for those that do man them.

Then the wall itself actually appeared to be 3 bricks thick. It was a layer of bricks and rebar, then a layer of something that appeared to be sheet metal of some persuasion and then another layer of bricks, another layer of metal, and then another layer of bricks. The mortar between at least the last layer of bricks still seemed to need time to settle, suggesting this had only been completed recently, however it already looked incredibly durable.

Next there were 3 platforms on the interior edge of the three brick thick wall, on two of them were his laser turrets, surprisingly good firing positions for the turrets too, albeit a bit exposed. And then the third was a small walkway for a manned firing position which stood above the gate door.

Lastly was the gate door itself. It was clearly a recycled garage door however it seemed to actually be two garage door mechanisms that worked in tandem, both opening sideways, one to the left and the other to the right. And of course the garage doors themselves had been reinforced with enough metal to make them sturdy doors. The strain on the motor must be heavy, he would look into that later.

However none of this surprised him the most. What did was the fact that, on the walkway above the garage door there was actually a resident from inside the vault, gun in hand, manning the position.

The person in question had seemed to have found some of the scant vault-tec security armor that still remained in storage Adam hadn't bothered with and put it on. They were not nearly as heavily armored as himself, obviously, but with a bullet proof vest, arm pads and knee pads and then a helmet with a face-shield they were even more armored than they would have been as guards in Naper.

"Hey! It's Adam!" The guard called out as Adam rolled the APC out in front of the wall. "Everyone! Adam's back!"
