Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Where the Fire Lead (Pt 1)

I am just another ordinary person.

Living my life as a guard in this small town with fewer than a hundred of people.

This world is full of mysteries of its own. Creatures with unimaginable strength, terrain that defies logical thinking, people born with extraordinary powers.

The whole thing doesn't make sense to me… but I choose not to think too much about it and focus on my new life.

"Wuah!!... Who is that?!"

Woken from his little slumber, the guard jolted pointing the tip of his weapon toward me.

"Whoa, easy there… It's my shift now." Both hands in the air, I took a small step back from the pointing spear.

The surprised guard lowered his weapon, speaking in a murmured voice. "Oh... Sorry… I leave the post to you. Have a great shift."

Handing the weapon off to me, he walked off wobbling, soon disappearing from my view.

Being a guard isn't a rewarding job. Most of the time, only the bad apples or the bottom of the bottom take it.

-Not to said I'm one.

Turning around, I took a strolled through the small town, checking for any abnormalities.

The town wasn't big, so it was easy to remember the surroundings. Checking every path, every corner, every alley.

-it would take less than an hour at most.

But it could get pretty boring sometimes.

Sigh "Nothing new, huh?"

My eyes gazed at the dimly lit light in the distance, somewhere upon the dark sky.

Turning away, soon I arrived at the wooden gates.

Another man in armor, holding the same design weapon, stood there.

*Salute

"I've finished patrolling inside the town. Permission to patrol the surroundings area"

Saluting back, the guard responded, "Permission granted. Open the gate!"

He shouted to the guards above, and the sturdy gates creaked open.

"Be careful," were the final words spoken to me, as the gate closed shut on my face.

Turning around, the sound of insects started creeping in.

With weapon in hand, I began my patrolling following the outer wall.

Eyeing the stone wall and the surrounding nature, everything felt normal so far.

And soon, my mind drifted to my thought—my preferred method of passing the time when things got boring.

Even though I said I don't really care about these abnormalities that defy logic, I do find interest in one particular thing.

A sudden gust of wind brush against my armor , sharp enought to bring me back to reality.

The spear in my hands tilted toward the dark.

My thought change as I keep staring in the wind direction.

"The air.....It's warm."

This abnormality tickled my already bored mind.

Why would the wind feel warm during this hour? Furthermore, there were no natural heat source or any town nor city near this part of land.

Something wasn't right.
