Nikolai's POV
"Selena, I can explain." A thousand options ring in my head and I hurriedly scramble to find the most believable one.
"You can explain? Ok then, explain. Let me know why your hair is ruffled, you have kisses on your body,hickeys on your neck, your zip is undone and why my best friend is all messed up in your house! Give me a good and reasonable explanation." She folds her arms and waits for me to say something.
"Let me explain." I should suck up and apologize but that is not a word in my dictionary.
"I'm waiting to hear you explain Nikolai." Her gaze softens
"I, I haven't been feeling very well of recent. She, I, we were in a call and she, she just came over to check up on me, these are from other ladies, we actually haven't done anything. I wouldn't do such a thing. Especially not to you." I sound like an idiot, but this is not the first dumb lie I've told and she believed.
"You must really deem me to be stupid to say such meaningless words to me. Straight to my face. We're done." The seriousness in her eyes make my heart skips.
"Selena,hold on. You can't do this. It was just a mistake okay?" I try to hold her arms but she escapes my grip.
"You can't survive without me Selena. I worked out everything for you. I worked out your job for you. I worked out even some of your friends. Everything you are now, it's all thanks to me. If you dare to leave, everything will be withdrawn. Your job,your house. Everything."
"That was why it was easy for her to play whatever silly games is it you all play in this stupid mafia world." She keeps on staring at me with that innocent gaze.
"What are you taking about?" I ask her in genuine confusion. Who is she referring to as her? Is there something going on I'm yet to be filled on about?
"As for the job, the original owners want it back. So thank you for helping me. We can't continue this relationship because I am not deserving of you Nikolai ." Her eyes glisten, she bites her lower lips. I distract myself from saying lewd words in this case.
"I will never destroy you Sel. I will only help and I will help you over and over again Selena if it needs me to. That is just how much I want you to be mine." I know she's afraid of my family and all their dirty affairs but I wouldn't make her do something she doesn't wish to.
"It is very obvious. I know you will never hurt me intentionally but This thing, whatever it is we have between us is officially over. Your parents were right after all, Priscilla is more a more suitable option for you than I am. And tell my best friend , I love her. And I do not blame her. What goes around comes around after all." She turns around and leaves.
"Selena!" I run and I drag her back.
"What's going on with you? Are you really going to end this? End us?" I search her eyes for a softened emotion. For the Selena that I know.
"To hell with you,yours and I. I don't deserve you." She breaks free from my grip and she leaves. I am taken aback with her words. Selena would never use such kind of words. Something is going on.
I dip my hands into my pockets and I call my trusted aide.
"Hello sir?"
"Keep an eye on her. Inform me about everything going on with her. Keep me updated. Also, everything from the day of the ball, up until this moment. Get them for me." I issue commands as my conscience suspects and I place my phone back into my pocket.
"Ring. Ring." My phone rings. I place my hands in my pocket and I pick it up.
"Who is this?"
"Sir, she seems to be packing and we are struggling to keep up with her. Also, some of the information we tried to gather this morning, we are yet to conclude on the information and it was just confirmed that she lost her job earlier today.
"I'm on my way." I place my phone into my pocket and I hurry back to my place.
"Has she gone?" Her best friend,Michelle asks me.
"I'm going to her place to see her." I pull out one of my black dress that she admires very much.
"Do you have to go see her? She can cope by herself. She's not a child that you should be nursing her." I can hear the irritation in her voice.
"Your best friend is leaving." I try to ring it to her, Selena is going somewhere no one knows.
"I couldn't care less." She stands up from the chair and packs her things to leave.
I continue dressing and I finally leave. I call my agents again.
"Sir?"
"The update?"
"It has been confirmed that she visited the pharmacy before going back to work early today." He sounds like he's fidgeting.
"And?"
"The records are empty here sir. The pharmacist and the staffs in the pharmacy claim to know nothing about it as well."
"I can tell from your voice,that is not the only ting you found out about. Spill it."
"Priscilla is the reason she lost her job. And we can't find the footage of some occasions."
I grip my steering wheel tightly. I step on the pedal and I increase the speed to her house. Selena should be able to explain to me what exactly is going on.
"Sel?" I run to her door ignoring the rest of the people in the neighborhood.
"Selena?" I stop in front of her door. Her door is wide ajar and it's not something she would do in an ordinary day.
"Selena!" I come into the house to meet the whole house stumbled upside down. I turn around looking for a clue, something , anything. I see it.
On her table,there's a note.
"Kieran has something to say to you. None of you should bother looking for me. By the time you see this, I am already in another country. I never got to tell you this but I love you very much Nikolai."
