Chapter 8 - The Night the Stars Fell

Hey there, it's been a while. I'm sorry I took so long to upload a new chapter. I was busy with a project, and my computer also broke, and that's where I'm comfortable writing. From this chapter, the real trama I have planned for the book will start unfolding. As always, I hope you enjoy the chapter, and if you have any comments or suggestions, please don't hesitate to tell me.

It had been six months since my status awakened.

A full year had passed since I was reborn into this strange, vast world — a place both familiar and foreign, as though ripped from the pages of manga and stitched together with raw chaos and cosmic intent. Though memories of my past life still echoed in the quiet of my mind, this new existence had become my undeniable reality.

Sometimes I caught myself laughing inwardly at the absurdity of it all. I used to be a lonely college student, just another nameless soul in a crowded world. Now… I was a literal superpowered baby, brimming with insane potential, navigating a universe I was only beginning to comprehend.

That status screen, the one that appeared six months ago, answered questions I didn't even know I had. But it also raised far more.

Why were there so many unknowns? Why did everything come with a question mark?

And most importantly…

What the hell was I?

Where exactly had I been reincarnated?

In the months that passed, I absorbed more about this world simply by listening. My family's casual conversations, fleeting comments, and whispered concerns gave me breadcrumbs to piece things together.

Children here awaken their "quirks" around age four — just like in My Hero Academia. Naturally, everyone was curious about what mine would be. Especially my sisters. But there was something else… something darker.

This world wasn't just about quirks. It had cursed spirits. Things straight out of Jujutsu Kaisen.

I first noticed them during one of Mom's little escape trips — moments where she'd flee the house for air and take me along. That day, we visited a mall, strolled through a park, and eventually arrived at a school — the same one my siblings had once attended. Mom told me I'd be going there when I turned three.

The moment we arrived, I noticed the stares.

People looked at her — really looked at her. At first, I assumed it was just because of her beauty. But now it was becoming clearer: she was famous. Revered. Probably a hero… just like in The Incredibles.

As we approached the school gates, two guards noticed us and walked over and congratulated her on giving birth. I could immediately notice something different in them, they were stronger than the average person, both of their auras were blueish and even though they didn't have the same level of strength I sensed in my parents, they still were quite strong.

"Mrs. Parr, so good to see you! Congratulations on the birth of your child," said the male guard with a respectful nod.

"He's adorable, Mrs. Parr! Will we get to see him here in a few years?" the woman chimed in.

Mom smiled warmly. "Clarice, Jonathan, thank you. I'm sorry I didn't stop by sooner — it's been a crazy year. This little guy is Kael. And yes, he'll be under your care soon enough." my mother said while pinching my cheeks.

"What a beautiful name," Clarice said, eyes sparkling. "It'll be an honor."

"I was hoping to give Kael a little tour," Mom added. "Would that be alright?"

"Of course Mrs. Parr, anything for you, if you need anything please don't hesitate to tell us," said Jonathan

My mother thanked them and we began walking through the school, mom was playing the enthusiastic guide, pointing out every detail of the school like she was unveiling a hidden treasure.

But then… something shifted.

As we passed the gymnasium, I felt it. A sickly, black aura clung to the space like a shadow. My stomach turned. My skin crawled. I opened my eyes wider, and there it was.

Lurking within the gym, I saw a being that resembled a gangly humanoid figure, it was draped in tattered school uniforms that seemed to be from different eras. Its limbs were disproportionately long, and it was walking around on all fours like a contorted beast. Its head was a blank wooden planchette, with a single bloodshot eye peeking through the viewing hole.

Faint whispers and tapping sounds followed it like a death rattle.

I could immediately tell it was a cursed spirit and a powerful one at that, I didn't have a reference to the actual level but based on what I read in the manga and the threat I felt from it I figured it had to be at least a grade 2 curse.

But before I could get a better read, it vanished.

Completely. Almost like it completely disappeared from the world

The aura faded, the presence blinked out, and only the residual dread remained. But just before it disappeared, I knew it looked at me. It saw me.

Somehow, it knew I could see it too.

Mom noticed my unease and gently asked, "Kael, you don't like the school?"

"I like it," I replied softly. My speech had only just started — my first word was "Mama," of course. It was a day of celebration when it happened.

Could I have spoken sooner? Yes. But I figured it was better to act like a normal baby.

Still, that moment haunted me. A cursed spirit… and it vanished. What was this world hiding?

Anyway, ignoring the sudden appearance of a new threat present in this world and its disappearance, the rest of the day went by, without any more surprises.

Apart from those events, Helen finally took me to the doctor to check on my eyes. I guess at the beginning she was unwilling to accept something was wrong but it became impossible to ignore the fact that I almost never opened them and when I did, it was obvious they were special.

The doctor was kind but professional. He checked my vitals, asked questions, and when it came time to examine my eyes, I shut them tight.

Something told me not to let him see.

"Kael, it's okay. You can show him," Mom said gently, brushing her fingers across my cheek. Nothing escapes her...

With a sigh, I opened them.

The doctor froze.

His blue aura trembled.

"What... his eyes ... I have never seen anything like them," said the doctor "Could you tell me more about them Mrs. Parr, anything you can think of would be of help to make a proper diagnose"

"Well, as I said before, most of the time he keeps his eyes closed and I've noticed he only opens them when he is curious about something. Also.... well..."

"You can say anything to me Mrs. Parr, I only have your son's best interest in mind" interrupted the doctor when he saw my mother hesitating

"Well sometimes I could swear that he can see even when his eyes are closed and when he opens them and looks at me it's almost like he can tell everything about me"

"Okay... Interesting" the doctor said while looking at me. He took pictures of my eyes and looked at them through different lenses and medical tools. It was honestly uncomfortable and I was starting to get tired of keeping them open for so long.

Mom eventually asked, "So doctor, do you think it's related to his quirk or Æther Art? As you see his hair is also quite different from my own and his father's"

There it was again: something I had read in my status before Æther Art and it apparently was related to the quirks of this world. Something to investigate further.

"Possibly," the doctor said slowly. "But… I have some doubts, there are some traits here that resemble something else.... but it can't be... it's impossible"

"Impossible?" Mom repeated. "What do you mean?"

He shook his head. "It's nothing, Mrs. Parr. I need to consult some sources and I will send some tests so that I can be sure. But rest assured — I see no health risks. He probably keeps them closed because of some ability the eyes have. As for the hair, I'll run some genetic tests but if you want to fully know if it's related to his quirk it would be best to take him to the Sanctum and have his Æther Art tested."

"Thank you, Doctor. That eases my mind — at least a little."

"Very well then Mrs Parr when you have the results from the tests send them to me and we'll see each other again in 2 weeks." said the doctor extending his hand to say goodbye

It had been a week since then. My mother had only grown more protective, despite the doctor's reassurances. Something about the way he had phrased things unsettled her, and I could see it — or rather, I could feel it through the green, rich energy that constantly enveloped her body whenever she looked at me. Strong. Fierce. Loving. Desperate. As if she was ready for something

Bob... my father... was more or less the same way he was 6 months ago

He smiled when he held me and laughed with Dash and the twins but with me... there was always a hesitation. A flicker behind his warm eyes, doubt, unease. A pause he couldn't hide, even if he tried.

Their late-night arguments were rare but sharp. I'd pretend to sleep, snuggled in my crib, listening to the words they thought were whispered low enough.

"I'm telling you, Bob, he's special. You can't keep treating him like... like some burden you don't understand!"

"Helen...," Bob sighed, heavily, "I'm not saying he's a burden. It's not even about whether he's mine anymore, I'm saying he's not... normal, and that's saying something considering the world we live in. You know I've always trusted my instincts, and he makes me feel... uneasy. What if we can't protect him? What if he brings danger to the family?"

"Then we protect him harder," Helen hissed, her voice trembling with held-back tears. "I feel that uneasiness too, Bob!"

My heart ached. I may have been small and inexperienced in both lives, but I understood enough.

And Helen never wavered. She was willing to become my shield, my sun. Even Bob, who at the beginning rejected me, had found a common ground with my mother. The protection of our family. That shared purpose drew them closer — closer than before.

Meanwhile, my siblings — Violet, Jazelle, and Dash — had taken matters into their own hands. They must have heard the arguments too. In their ways, they began to protect me.

Violet, quiet and introverted, would slip into my room at night, and read picture books in a voice soft as moonlight. Her aura shimmered pale green, like dew on leaves. Calm. Gentle. Safe. She was the night sky — distant, but always watching.

Jazelle was fire to her sister's water — wild, electric, always moving. Her golden-green energy sparked and danced like lightning in a bottle. She'd plop down beside my crib and tell me about her day, her voice full of drama and wonder.

And Dash? Dash was still Dash. A blur of joy, giggles, and nonsense. He'd race around the room like a living comet, determined to make me laugh. Sometimes he succeeded.

For a time, it was good. As good as it could be.

But good things never last.

It started one night under a silver moon bleeding crimson into the sky.

I awoke before the others. A prickling sensation under my skin — a warning only the Six Eyes could perceive.

At the very edge of my senses, I felt them: three figures cloaked in shadow. Their energy twisted, wrong. Unnatural. Auras burning with a deep, predatory crimson.

I recognized them instinctively.

Predators.

They had caught a scent. Mine. Their intent flared like wolves who'd cornered a wounded lamb.

Panic surged through my tiny body. And realizing my own weakness I did the only thing I could think of.

I screamed. Or tried to. My lungs, small and weak, could barely create more than sharp cries.

But it was enough.

A thunderous crash echoed from below. My scream had stirred my parents. The moment they sensed the presence, they sprang into motion, Helen burst into action first. I saw her energy spike like an emerald storm. She stretched her body instantly, crossing the house in seconds. Bob followed, his powerful frame ripping through the halls.

But the beings... they were prepared.

I could tell they didn't want a fight. They simply wanted me. Fast and silent, two engaged my parents while the third, a slippery shadow with something protruding out of its tailbone like some kind of tail, slithered toward my crib.

"BOB! THE CHILDREN!" Helen's scream cracked the air like a whip, her voice raw and panicked.

Bob hurled himself at one of the monsters, colliding with it with a force that broke the house's structure. The floor gave way beneath him. He fought fiercely, with no hesitation, no fear. He loved me, even through his doubts, and now, that love burned desperate and furious to protect his family.

But these beings... they weren't ordinary. They were monsters. Trained. And something inside me — my blood, my essence — made them fight like demons possessed.

While Bob took care of the two downstairs that were giving more fight than he thought, Helen went after the third that was coming after me.

But she was a second too late.

The disgusting creature grabbed me with sickening force, its claws tightening around my ribs, crushing. I screamed again as pain shot through my tiny chest. Something cracked—and the world blurred as the creature vanished into the night with me clutched in its filthy hands.

I caught one last glimpse as the world spun.

Helen, my mom, screaming. Her energy exploded outward like a collapsing star chasing after the ghoul graving me like a ragdoll and Bob roaring in fury, his body battered and bleeding as he slammed one attacker through the wall.

But it still wasn't enough.

As the cold took me and the darkness closed in, the last thing I saw was my mother's face streaked with tears and her green energy shattering like glass across the sky.

And her power shattering into fragments of emerald glass across the heavens.
