At the rear of the room, T'Challa's expression faltered despite his composure. The shock in his eyes betrayed him.
Wakanda had guarded this secret for countless generationsāyet this man before them knew it all.
"Mr. Shen."
The elder king of Wakanda cut to the heart of the matter. He didn't know how much Shen He truly understood, but he chose to speak plainly:
"We've come to convey Wakanda's willingness to stand with Chaldea in this coming war. However, we ask that our decision not expose Wakanda to external exploitation, especially for Vibranium. We do not fear war, but neither do we want our people to suffer for the greed of others."
"Greed." Shen He's eyes narrowed slightly. "And yet Wakanda hoards Vibranium with closed fists. Is that not a form of greed as well?"
"..."
Silence pressed on the chamber like a weight.
Even the elder king's expression grew tense. A flicker of suspicion passed through his eyes: Was this man also coveting Vibranium?
"Vibranium did not originate on Earth," Shen He continued evenly, ignoring the shift in atmosphere. "It came with a meteoriteāan alien material that crash-landed in Wakanda. From it, you built your wealth, your technology, your status. Vibranium made Wakanda the marvel it is today. Only later did the heart-shaped herb become part of your strength. It's not hard to understand why you protect it so fiercely."
The king inhaled deeply. He could no longer maintain a neutral expression.
"Mr. Shen⦠what do you truly want?"
Earlier, it had merely seemed that Shen He knew much. Now, it was evident that he knew everything. Even secrets tightly held within the royal familyālike the alien origin of Vibranium and the properties of the heart-shaped herb. These were facts buried so deep, only a few remained alive who even knew them.
Chill brushed the elder king's skin. Shen He's knowledge was not just dangerousāit was penetrating.
"Hahaā¦"
Shen He's sudden laugh startled the tense room. He leaned back casually on the couch, placing Joan's hand on his lap as if this were a casual chat over drinks rather than a high-stakes meeting of sovereign powers.
"No need for alarm," Shen He smiled. "We didn't 'spy' on you. We saw it in the future."
"The future?" the elder king blinked, caught off guard.
"Yes," Shen He nodded. "We foresaw it. In one timeline, Wakanda revealed itself and opened Vibranium trade. With that, you amassed even more wealth and advanced technologically beyond any other nation. You became a central pillar in the defense of Earth⦠and it was your son who truly brought the name of the Black Panther to the world."
This, too, was a calculated lieāone of Chaldea's manufactured predictions.
But many of their predictions had already come to pass, and their reputation for accuracy was nearly unshakable.
Shen He hoped Wakanda would open Vibranium trading. Chaldea's future development would demand advanced materials and funding, and Vibranium was critical for both.
"The Chaldean prophecies have proven consistently accurate," Coulson interjected from Shen He's left. "This is well known in global high-level circles. Even our chairwomanāMiss Jeanneāhas the ability to perform limited short-term foresight."
The elder king's gaze flickered. He was visibly shaken.
Because what Coulson said could be verified. It wasn't empty rhetoric.
And knowing his son as he didāproud, compassionate, and boldāit was indeed possible that he might one day reveal Wakanda's truth to the world.
In fact, the king's cautious hold on Vibranium stemmed from a very real fear: what happens when it runs out? Wakanda's glory depended too heavily on it.
If what Shen He said was true, and Vibranium trade could ensure Wakanda's long-term prosperity and defense⦠then perhaps it was time.
"But let's not stray too far from the present," Shen He said, reading the flicker of hesitance in the king's eyes.
By shifting the topic, he signaled confidence in his foresight and softened the pressure.
"Tell meācan Wakanda's warships reach space? We have an urgent counterattack plan, but it requires a vehicle that can take us from Earth's orbit directly to the enemy mothership."
"Thisā¦" The king hesitated, regaining composure. "In theory, the technology exists. But we've never built such ships with combat in mind."
Indeed, Wakanda had developed spacecraft for travelābut not for sustained space warfare. Their designs prioritized stealth and speed over prolonged defense or heavy armament. Even in the films, a single Panther had been able to take down a royal warship.
"That's fine," Shen He said, waving the concern away. "We have Tony, and access to the world's most advanced industrial technology. The aliens are preparing something dangerous. We have no time to waste. If Wakanda sends Vibranium and technical staff to assist, we'll work together to forge the future of this planet."
There was no room for refusal in his tone.
Shen He had already discussed Vibranium utilization with Tony and others in Chaldea's inner circle.
Proper Vibranium plating would increase their mothership counter-offensive's odds by at least thirty percent.
Even with the threat of the Chitauri looming, Shen He felt no real dread.
After all, he still had Qi Shen.
If the enemy successfully built a wormhole expansion array, Shen He could unleash an enhanced Qi Shen equipped with an intermediate-level strengthening card. That single unit, cloned infinitely for one hour, could wipe out the Chitauri armada ranked above Level 70.
Moreover, they wouldn't allow the enemy to complete such a setup. The wormhole equipment outside the cube could be destroyed with long-range attacks.
At worst, if they couldn't reach it in time, they could still use Loki's Scepter to seal the Tesseractābut that would undermine all the narrative groundwork laid by the war.
In short, they had many options.
A mere Chitauri legion was nowhere near enough to corner the Chaldeans.
"ā¦We'll make arrangements immediately."
The king finally relented.
Because truly, what alternative did they have?
Chaldea offered a cooperative future. Refusal would mean conflictāand Wakanda, for all its power, could not afford to stand alone.
"If your son has time, he's welcome to visit us more often," Shen He added, pouring two glasses of Wakandan brandy. "Now that Wakanda has chosen to step forward, we should deepen our communication. After all, Chaldea is humanity's last line of management. We welcome the rise of every great civilization."
His stance had been firm, even imposingābut now he softened it, ensuring the king wouldn't feel forced into a corner.
Whether his final words had any long-term effect was uncertainābut to the king and the young prince, this Earthling's wine was indeed far superior to Wakanda's own.
