Chapter 136
I woke up a few hours after the battle, not even realizing when or where I'd fallen asleep. My body felt like it had been run over by a cart full of bricks, then set on fire for good measure.
The war had exhausted me to no end.
I ventured out for a walk to survey the aftermath. The streets of the capital looked like they'd been through a blender, and maybe a very large and angry interpretive dance routine. Splintered carts were embedded in the sides of collapsing buildings. Pavement stones were cracked open like eggs. Blackened bones of Void beasts lay scattered across alleyways, some still steaming. The air smelled like burnt fur, fried ozone, and despair.
I stepped around what I think used to be a lamppost and what might have once been a goat.
