We stepped through the gates, and the bubble of dry air around us vanished with a pop.
The ocean water that we had been staying away from now surrounded us almost instantly.
I took a cautious breath and found the water cool, sweet, and perfectly breathable. My clothes clung to me, but it was an almost pleasant feeling. Apparently, not having gills wasn't going to be a problem.
Despite being underwater, it felt like we were standing on solid ground.
Gravity still held us in place, but when I experimentally pushed off with my toes, I floated up a few inches in the water before coming back down.
Laine, ever the experimentalist, bent his knees and jumped. He was shot up a good three feet before crashing headfirst into a rather ornate coral bush.
"This is amazing!" he declared, sounding like an excited child.
