Chapter 9 - 8. Can't Get Over, I

We left the bar and walked to the club, we had a good conversation while we walked.

"So, what's the deal with this club you're taking me to?"

"Ah… It was the club where I met my ex-girlfriend."

"Doesn't it hurt you to go to a place where you met someone who… You know…"

I gave a weird smile.

"Ah, no, I think it'll actually do me good. I need to dance a bit."

"Drink a bit too, right? Come on, everyone needs a drink to drown their sorrows."

"Again…?" I thought to myself and then answered him with a warm smile.

"Yeah… You're right."

"Played so many games with you and now I know I feel so wrong."

The lyrics to Kasino's song echoed in my mind out of nowhere.

"???"

I ignored it for a moment.

Maybe it was just in my head, I thought I'd ignore it for now.

"I don't wanna say goodbye, you know?"

"What song is that you're singing?"

"Ah, this is a famous song by a Brazilian artist: Can't Get Over, it's really good and addictive, I think you'll hear it as soon as we get to the club."

"I see."

"Stay with me now, stay with me tonight, give, give me love, my baby!"

"Another one of his songs?"

"Yeah, Stay Tonight, to me it's one of his best too."

"Is this artist that good?"

"Eh… Not really."

"He has some really good songs and some pretty weak ones, but the ones I like, I like a lot."

"Without you I feel so lonely."

Another part of Can't Get Over ran through my head.

"What weird things are happening." I thought.

Our path seemed short and at the same time long, maybe because of my annoying singing and also because I walked at a turtle's pace and Tame Impala tried to keep up with me like that. But I don't know, I always seem slower as time goes by, I think I'm becoming an old man way faster than I should.

"Tell me you will come back, baby."

"I…"

This shit being machine-gunned into my head is already getting tiring, honestly.

"I think there's something wrong with you."

"How'd you figure?"

"It's easy to read you."

"Really?"

"Yeah, I think what's happening is that you're going through something not very good, but I think it's better for you to figure it out for yourself. I can't tell you anything more than that."

"You think you're the Riddler, you son of a bitch?" I said to myself.

"Baby would you give me just a second chance cause I… Just need another try."

"Played so many games with you and now I know I feel so wrong."

I put my hands on my head and started screaming.

Tame Impala came over to me and held me by the back so I wouldn't fall.

I woke up in the club.

"I don't wanna say goodbye, you know."

Can't Get Over was playing, just like I imagined.

"Yeah, I knew this song was playing, so, shall we start the party?" I said to Tame Impala as I got up.

I brushed my hands over my clothes to dust them off and saw Can't Get Over starting.

"I… I don't wanna say goodbye, you know?"

"Hey…"

Tame Impala looked at me.

"Wanna dance?"

In a few minutes the club turned into a chaotic 2-step, my foot moved back and forth, I threw my shoulders up high,

"Ah, ah, ah"

"I don't wanna say goodbye, you know?"

"I… I don't wanna goodbye, you know?"

I made my steps slower.

"I don't wanna say goodbye."

"Baby, would you give me just a second chance."

"'Cause I just need another try."

"Played so many games with you and now I know I feel so wrong."

"When you are not around, you always put me down."

"Never knew I'd feel so lonely."

"Now I need you by my side, 'cause only you can make my world go on and on and on and on."
