Sera's Pov
The sterile scent of antiseptic filled my nose the moment I stepped into the infirmary. It wasn't a smell I liked—too sharp, too clean, too full of memories I'd rather bury—but today, it somehow felt comforting. It meant Kael was still here. Still alive.
I followed the familiar hallways, my boots echoing softly against the polished floor. My heart thudded in my chest, uneven and anxious.
When I finally found his room, I hesitated at the door.
Through the glass window, I could see him—Kael—propped up against the pillows, his bare chest wrapped tightly in fresh bandages. He was alive. Smirking even, as he teased someone hovering by his bedside.
Lisa.
I exhaled a breath I hadn't realized I was holding.
Of course Lisa would be his nurse. She always seemed to end up wherever the most chaos was.
Squaring my shoulders, I pushed open the door.
"Hey," I said, trying for casual but hearing the way my voice cracked slightly at the edges.
