Inez sucked in a breath, feeling the sting of her words even though she was not the recipient. "I am sorry."
"It's alright."
It wasn't alright, and Inez knew that it wasn't. But the words had already left her lips, and she couldn't take them back even if she wished to. Oh, how she hoped that her siren powers came with the ability to turn time back. But unfortunately, they didn't.
It would have been much better if you had used your mind before opening your mouth. Her siren chimed inside her head, and Inez nearly lost her temper with her as well. However, she knew that Nerina was right. It was her fault for letting her anger get the best of her. She inhaled deeply. "I shouldn't have said that; it's not your fault, and I am sorry for taking my anger out on you. I didn't mean to hurt you in the least—"
"Like I said, it's alright," said Scarlet with a wry smile. "I know that even if you don't want to, you can't help but see me as your enemy."
