Chapter 1 - Ascelis

Time has no mark in my life. It never had. My world is one of darkness. No light, food was scarce as the air was venom. I say venom, for the air felt like it wanted everything alive to die. I had eyes, that saw heat, instead of light. A mouth with rows of razors and grinders. Ear holes that can pick up sounds from miles away. A nose that can identify singular elements and track them for miles beyond my hearing range.

My body, was leathery. I had no natural armor as my regenerative capabilities were instantaneous. My body was also toxic, my blood was acid, my breath was poison, venom is my saliva. My limbs were strong, with good reach. My clawed hands and feet allowed me to climb any surface. My muscles were dense, explosive, and tireless.

I do not remember being small, being born, or growing. I simply became self-aware at some point. Then I learned language from remnant of others I've found over time. I battled other creatures for an eternity in the dark. Eventually, I killed, ate, or terrified everything I came across. I gained such an aura of danger that none would dare breath within miles of me, for fear of death.

As I grew smarter, I discovered my ability to instill illusions into the minds of other creatures and mental communication. Nothing was able to communicate back in any sort of words. Which made them all worthless and pathetic creatures before me.

Later, I could move things with my mind and feel the life around me. The air was indeed alive with floating microorganisms with little teeth and venom glands.

This power was more than mental manipulation. When I went still and focused with this power. I felt as if I was experiencing a different world.

It was during one of these meditation senses that my senses broke past my "sky". It was a hard barrier to breach. Once I did, I felt so much life. Life that could speak with words, using sounds. I saw moving metal forms, speeders, ships. I saw light. Light was what excited me.

Knowing that beyond my "sky". I could experience a salvation from this lightless hell. I nearly lost my mind with the pure desire to climb.

My body, that has long grown bored was shaking with the anticipation from my mind. I could not stand it. Being down here with thoughtless, dumb animals by myself. I turned head upwards and leapt.

I climbed the walls of the first 5 floors to the metal sky. Sunk my claws in and began to tear at it. My progress was painfully slow as the sky was thick. Frustration turned into anger and my power stirred. Now my claw strikes began to disintegrate the metal. I was now burrowing quickly.

The metal sky went on for minutes, until I finally broke through. I was met with new smells and a cacophony of sounds. Heat signatures were everywhere. I was disoriented at first, before finally getting my senses used to the stimulation.

New beings backed away from me, sickly, but intelligent. They spoke words and communicated with sentience. There words were of surprise and fear. I was taller than them on all fours, most certainly when I stood on two legs. My body was also more...vicious and brutal looking than them.

Their words did not match what I learned though. Which I could rectify. I invaded a nearby mind without care. The being convulsed and foamed at the mouth, but I extracted every piece of knowledge from him. From his birth to his current time of death. When the Rodian fell backwards, dead. The surrounding people ran for their lives. Although, not all ran.

Some stern looking people that smelled of blood surrounded me with blasters.

"I don't know what you are, or how you came from a lower floor. Since the surface has been sealed for who knows how long. But this is our turf and our people. We decide when they die, not some ugly fuck from hell. So eat bolts! Blast it!"

I felt searing heat enter my flesh. It was immediately healed and felt unlike anything I've felt before. I had no voice to laugh, but my maw split into the widest smile. For I have felt a new sensation after an untold amount of time.

They stopped firing when they saw the damage vanishing from my body. Not even shots to my head worked. My smile seemed to scare them deathly still.

Then I sent out a radial psychic message, "Oh...is that all? Well, time to experience how you die differently."

Their eyes went wide and some stumbled back hearing my monstrous, predatory voice in their minds.

Many yelled, "Demon." Before firing at me in retreat.

I pounced on them, and whatever pitiful armor they wore was torn through. Bodies began to be torn apart and chunks of flesh ripped from their skeletons. I stood tall at my full height after I finished killing them.

My eyes turned back towards the true sky. Light barely reached here, but it did. I must continue my climb.
