Chapter 18 - ep16 preview

I am so sorry for taking so long to have a preview ready. Unfortunately this is all I have for this chapter right now, as I've been taking a break since uploading the first chapter of my new httyd fic. In tandem to a few other things.

I've had to force my brain into a mindset that I normally don't have to when writing or thinking of what I could possibly write; thinking my thoughts as words. This is an attempt to jump start myself back into writing. It is something I needed to do as it feels like I've somehow lost all motivation to write and I DON'T like that.

I know I've probably mentioned this before, but I really think I hit my head just hard enough to mess something up. I've been more productive around my house instead of procrastinating and it just feels too sudden, I feel like I am forgetting things slightly more often if I don't focus enough, I have ADHD and my mind feels empty. I promised myself I wouldn't stop writing or at the very least finish my books before stopping. I genuinely enjoy writing, I originally started to see if it would help with my ADHD and it did, it helps me calm down when something "bad" happens (my parents arguing over bills) (don't worry about that though, it's nothing truly serious, just stress) it helps me calm down when I'm overexcited which you may be able to tell with some scenes. I'm essentially pouring my emotions into my fics and until recently, they were the only place that they'd willingly go into without struggle.

I apologize if this seems… condescending? I don't know what word to use for what I mean.

I hope you enjoy this preview

I think rambling was the word

Funny how this was the most I've written in a while

(3rd POV)

It had been a week since the dragon riders had helped Queenie defend her nest from the Cavern Crasher, in fact it had nearly been a week and a half, in which during this time, Fishlegs had discovered a cave dwelling pack Night Terrors that were essentially yandere for him. That was its own fiasco. A couple days after that, Hiccup, Snotlout and their respective dragons left to help Snotlout's father to defend their family storehouse from Singetails, he had stayed with the others but in retrospect he probably should have gone to see how well he'd do against one of the aggressive stoker class dragons.

But... it probably wouldn't have been worth listening to all the arguments that happened between Stoick and Spitelout, but he also could've gotten the chance to wrestle with them. Some regrets had just formed, but he could always wrestle with Stoick another time.

Then there was the whole situation with Astrid catching the Scourge of Odin.... ....Absolutely nothing of note happened, everything happened the same as in his memories. Cinderwing literally had no reason to try to change anything, lest he risk Astrid not getting the cure she needed if she was gonna survive.

Actually, there was one thing of note.

(Recap)

"Uhh, shouldn't we be stopping him?" Fishlegs asked, watching a a both Cinderwing and the Buffalord tore up Viggo's ship. However, before Hiccup had the chance to reply, Tuffnut spoke up. "Ah. But you're forgetting one key thing, my Fishy friend." Fishlegs stared at him strangely. "Cinder has his own agenda, whilst we may have promised to not intervene, he did not." Tuffnut finished with a dramatic clenching of his fist.

Astrid placed her hands on her his, lightly coughing. "To be fair, he's always done his own thing." Snotlout nodded in agreement. "Yeah, at this point I think he only listens to us when it's convenient." He gestured towards the now sinking ship. "I mean, apparently he came to you so you could teach him how to write." He added with an expression that conveyed his bewilderment. "Maybe he got all the good genes." Ruffnut suggested with a lazy smile.

[BOOM!]

(Recap; end)

Yeah, Cinderwing enjoyed tearing most of Viggo's ship apart. Unfortunately he couldn't kill him just yet, he still had a chance for redemption after all, though Cinder mostly just didn't mess up the timeline and be forced to face someone like Grimmel, or heavens forbid Drago, so much earlier than normal after hearing the news of Viggo's death. He's a prestigious Dragon Hunter and savvy businessman.

Grimmel the Grizzly; Cinderwing didn't really fear having to go up against him, because in all honesty the Night Fury could probably defeat him and his mind fucked dragons on his own. Was this Cinder's arrogance speaking? Yes, but compared to Viggo and even... what's his name? The one who rode the Titanwing Singetail? Whatever. Compared to those two, Grimmel hadn't really done much besides claiming to have killed every single Night Fury, and destroying most of Berk with a surprise attack.

'Fucking fraud.' Cinder mentally insulted the hunter as he sped across the ocean.

After all, why would the Dragon Riders expect to get raided by dragons after so many years of peace between most of them? By that point there were no more Berserkers who would attack them, no more Outcasts to try and steal the Book of Dragons. They had all made peace at that point.

As for Drago... well, Cinder really didn't want to test whether or not his clearly abused Bewilderbeast could take control of his mind. Just the thought of it makes him sick to his core. Drago was definitely far more dangerous than Grimmel.

Moving on from that, the gang had attempted to go on a vacation after Hiccup had them working to the ground to create Gronckle Iron. Cinderwing had left the Dragon Riders to their own devices that day, there was no way he would be slaving away to mine for the materials. In no way shape or form did he switch places with Stormfly when he noticed she was exhausted, definitely not, did not happen at all.

Cinder had decided to stay at home when they decided to leave, completely forgetting about the events that would happen that day. He had instead decided to go visit Snaptrap, when he'd gotten there he had found out that the hybrid Nadder was harassing her again. In fact, Cinderwing had caught the hybrid in the act, this was the last straw for the hybrid, so Cinderwing just straight up killed him. That's right, no epic battle, no dramatic revelation of a traumatic past, just a single shot to the head and he dropped dead.

Cinder hadn't felt sorry, nor did he feel any remorse for his actions. The only thing he felt guilty about was that the hybrid's mother—who had clearly loved him despite all his... faults—would have to spend time mourning for the loss of her dead son.

That was about it for what happened for the past wee—. "Hey! There he is!" Cinder glanced to his left to see Snotlout and Hookfang flying towards him, with the Thorston twins, Barf & Belch following closely behind them. Tuffnut pointed at the Night Fury, more specifically the scroll strapped his neck. "See! I told you." He gloated proudly, Ruffnut rolling her eyes in irritation—Tuffnut had been pestering her about this for days—before a smile crept onto her lips. "Cinder's been doing this every other day." Tuffnut added, urging the Zippleback to fly faster.

"Hmmph." A brief pulse of lightning washed over Cinderwing's body, giving him a small burst of speed—that in all honesty, he didn't need—as he weaved through and around the many sea-stacks as he neared Dragons Edge, chuffing with amusement as Hookfang, Barf & Belch were unable to match his agility, occasionally smashing head first into a sea-stack.

'Idiots.' He mused with a smirk.

Nearing the dome they usually used as a training arena, Cinderwing shot a small plasma blast at the lever inside—causing the dome to begin closing—before diving down into the cave that led inside the very same dome, with his pursuers following suit. Cinder weaved around the rock pillars with incredible ease for a dragon his size, stopping on a dime before he could hit the wall, flying up into the dome, and exiting just as it closed with two loud resounding clangs of metal that for a brief moment, seemingly left two large dents in the shapes of his pursuers heads.

Cinderwing shook his head with a hint of disbelief, only to find that the cartoonish dents were gone. "Weird." He huffed, before chuckling as he continued his way toward Fishlegs' hut.

A while later, the dome began to open, with Snotlout and the Twins slipping out the moment there was a large enough gap, leaving their still dazed dragons behind. "Fuck you, Snotlout, and the twins incessant need to chase Cinder around the island." Hookfang growled to himself. "This is the fifth time we've hit this fucking dome!" He added with a loud roar, with the Zippleback raising their head to speak, only for them to fall back down to the ground, groaning.

"It's nice to see those three training on their own." Hiccup stated with a hint of proudness in his voice, arms crossed as he watched them chase Cinder on foot. "Not really like them, though, is it?" Astrid asked, glancing at Hiccup. "Especially not with Cinder." After a brief pause, the two Vikings began to chase after the trio to figure out what was going on. "Why'd you think they're chasing Cinder for?" Astrid queried. "We're about to find out." Hiccup replied as he saw Snotlout and the twins tackle Fishlegs right after Cinder had given him a scroll, said Night Fury rumbling with stifled laughter.

"What the—." Meatlug unintentionally snorted in dismay the moment right after the three Vikings tackled her rider to the ground, before huffing in irritation as she watched them tumble and roll around the floor of Fishlegs' home. Hiccup and Astrid arrived a few moments later—to which Cinder had calmed his laughter, though a smile remained on his lips—briefly pausing at the scuffle before speaking up. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hey!" He began to get their attention. "What is going on with you three?"

"Their usual chaotic-ness." Cinder rhetorically answered, though he did make an attempt to say it in Norse, like a bird mimicking their owner's words, but his draconic vocal chords were not accustomed to formulate words in human language's, so it only came out as staggered chirps. 'Stormfly would probably have a much easier time learning this with how bird-like Deadly Nadders are.' He mused as Hiccup had queried about why the trouble-making trio were on top of the big boned Viking. "It's okay." Fishlegs said with a slightly strained tone. "Really." He added, though everyone else who was mature enough could tell how unsure his tone was.

"Ha!" Tuffnut briefly laughed. "The Fishmeister has been getting quite the bevy of Terror mails lately." He said with a raised hand that held a scroll. The trio began to remove themselves from Fishlegs. "Or should we say, Fury-mails. Because he was the one to deliver them." The male Thorston added, pointing the scroll at the Titanwing Night Fury. "And since we haven't been sending them...." Snotlout began to add, his hand moving to his chest as well as glancing to his right at Tuffnut. "That begs the question," The latter continued twirling the scroll in his hand. "Who is our sly little friend here, communicating with on the...." He paused in a moment of thought, touching the scroll to his chin. "Sly?" He finished slowly with a smirk as he pointed the scroll back towards Hiccup and Astrid.

"Uh huh." Ruffnut nodded as Fishlegs got to his feet. Snotlout moved slightly in front of Fishlegs. "And because he won't give up a name...."

Meatlug looked over to Cinder, noticing his usual knowing smile and sighed with indifference. "If I already didn't know who he was writing to, I'd assume that'd you somehow got him to do something insane." Cinderwing snorted at her statement. "Oh, I wouldn't make him do anything too crazy." He replied, watching as Snotlout and Tuffnut danced and laughed at the assumption of Fishlegs having a girlfriend. "Yeah!" Tuffnut high-fived Snotlout. "It's fun to make fun of people! Yeah!"

Astrid placed her hands on her hips, bending slightly as she gave Fishlegs a curious side eye. "Who is she, Fishlegs?" She queried... and that was when Tuffnut and Snotlout began laughing really hard. "Who said it's a she?" Snotlout rhetorically questioned when his laughter calmed, before quickly hopping back on reflex when a small plasma bolt hit the floor where his feet were, Cinderwing staring at him and Tuffnut with clear disappointment in his gaze.

Meatlug's eyes had widened—with an additional confused warble—at Snotlout's implication, shifting her gaze to the Night Fury who had now had half his body inside. "Is that a thing humans do?" Cinder nodded in affirmation, his gaze not so much as shifting an inch from Snotlout's form. "Sometimes, though not everyone accepts that kind of relationship." He replied, a puff of electric smoke blowing out his nostrils as he huffed indignantly.

"Uh, Fishlegs? Now I have to admit, I am curious." Hiccup voiced his curiosity, to which Fishlegs finally caved in, raising his hands in mock surrender. "Okay, okay." The Ingerman paused. "It's Heather." He announced in a quieter tone.

Astrid gasped, shocked, whilst Hiccup stared in disbelief, with Snotlout and the twins having similar expressions. "Whoa." Ruffnut exhaled. Snotlout's mouth shut with an audible click of his jaws. "So, wait." Snotlout began, his tone already displaying his disbelief. "You're telling me that my future wife," Both Cinder and Meatlug rolled their eyes at that. "The future Mrs. Lout, who just disappeared after the whole Viggo fiasco," Snotlout gestured toward his left. "You knew where to find her and you told exactly no one?"

Fishlegs chapped his lips, looking unfazed by Snotlout's ranting. "Yep, pretty much." He answered in a very calm tone as he shrugged his shoulders. Snotlout growled in irritation. "Look, guys, Heather is out on her own." Hiccup began. "She never stays in one place." He said, reminding everyone who had forgotten, mainly Snotlout and the twins.

Cinder quietly snorted. "She's actually been staying at Huttsgalor for the most part, living comfortably with the Rescue riders." He stated knowing full well that they would never know what he'd just said. The Night Fury quickly lost interest in the riders "interrogation" when they had asked Fishlegs just how many letters he and Heather had sent to each other, flying off as soon as the Viking had opened the chest beside him as he had no intention of staying there for the rest of the day.

He instead headed toward dragon stables where the other dragons... no, his friends were—other than Meatlug, obviously—to hang out with them. ...And maybe introduce them to the concept of board games, he could only imagine how often the stables would go down in flames when Hookfang inevitably loses a few times. In fact, Cinderwing could hear the Nightmare's phantom screams filled with the human slurs he'd taught him.

Cinder chuckled humorously at the thought.
