Chapter 3 - 03 - A Humble New Beginning

All right, chat. Let's make a roll call!

My name is Nortes Angeles. My age is twenty-four years old. An ordinary boy with ordinary daily responsibilities. Yep, I'm doing the exact like a monologue of every novel to introduce their main protagonist, and since I've been reincarnated into this world I hereby proclaim myself as the main protagonist. Back in my world, the habit I mostly using was reading a novel. In my smartphone.

Anywhere; School, Cafeteria, Restaurant, Taxi, Park, and I should mentioned that I always walking while reading.

But when the day I got a job, my schedule became expanded. Every day I took a subway which leading to the city where I work. There, I keep reading novel, whether I'm standing nor sitting, even my parent concerned about it. Yes, I'm a hardcore reader. Enough about me, let's get to know where I am me. I'm currently getting diagnose by the estate's personal doctor, yes, right now within the room with those four people.

—"Tongue out and say 'ahh!'." A gruffly voice belong from the Doctor has intervene my monologue and also break my own world. So this must be the end. Until next time.

"Ahhh!!" I yell louder while sticking out my tongue, the doctor's eyes gaze over my tongue, examining it thoroughly. The Doctor told me I allow to close my mouth now then I followed. The tests of Doctor used at me were old-fashion, it was my first time experiencing such a thing, though those methods were mentioned in my Music, Arts, Physical Education, And Health Class if my memory serve me right.

"How is our lord's condition?" Maple-haired woman queried.

The Doctor laid his attention toward Maple-haired woman. "Our lord's status is clear. There were no curse and either spell casted upon him. I am almost loss for words, I'm afraid." The Doctor returned to me, behind those eyes it told me this man is thankful. "The man who is with us today is not an Illusion at all but rather a grace. It is truly a miracle." A silence came by.

I remained confuse once again, though I haven't received any contexts yet. So I continued to be patient and be silent. Again. One mistake I'd make then the scenario will become different. Or worse.

"You are saying he is not actual an undead?" Black-colored hair man pondered.

The Doctor shook his head dismissively at his question—The man with a flamboyant-curling mustache pulled out a minuscule iron hammer-like tool coming from his black-colored paint leather bag which it is for medical purpose only. "If you won't believed me therefore pay me with your attention, Sentinel. Here is my evidence."

Without a warning the Doctor slam the hammer onto my shin, it made me cried out in pain. Two Guards, Maple-colored hair girl, and Black-colored hair boy were alarmed from my cries. The Guards rush ahead towards my aid with a shout of concerned, "MY LORD!!!"

"Hey! You should've warned me you're gonna do that first!" I declared while hissing to the pain. "Ouch...!"

"If he is TRULY an undead then he is not supposed to spoke frequently as us. And feeling a sense of anguish too! The true define of undead is it will grunting nonsense around and its senses become numb." The Doctor has stated a fact which it had left me in amazed. An undead, an alive corpse, this feels great. Hopefully I'd encounter those in the future.

"You are undoubtedly correct, Doctor. However does hurting Our Lord is necessary to proven his humanity still existing?" The Black-haired boy asked. Though I won't forgot the audacity of this man, when we were first met he was emotionless and had a plot to kill me and at this point he became concern over me, even there is still the same nonchalant vibe imprinted on his current expression.

"Oh?!" The Doctor said. "Rubbish, young lad! You are talking to a high-experienced doctor. I can heal our lord whenever I wish within my capability. Even I intend to break his bones." My body shivered to the core upon the Doctor mentioned he was plotting to break my bones. The heart in me had started pulsing in rush rate slightly, despite the feeling I ignored it then I spoken.

"Please no! Have mercy upon me!" I stated in such formality alike their speeches to preventing them to become highly suspicious toward me. For the sake of my life and enjoyment I must survive so I can have more time for myself to explore this place, one step at the time then I will make an escape tonight and off my way traversing to this unfamiliar land. I just can't hold back my excitement on becoming a Traveler. A lone hero, yes, the epic of me becoming the world's great hero.

"Hahahaha!!" The Doctor laughing genuinely at my reaction. "Pardon me for frightened you, my lord. It was an harmless tease, I ensure you I won't mean any harms to you." He smile but then his expressive return to serious. "Joke aside, there is one thing I need to check."

I pondered by his dialogue, whatever it is I must be on guard. Though I ordered those two guards to give me space a minute ago.

"I will give him a test specifically for the mind. It will be quick." The Doctor assured at maple-colored hair girl and black-haired boy. "What is my name, my lord?"

In an instant my heart sunk into the void. God has finally made a move against me. This wall may be big but for my will to embark myself on the journey alone as Traveler is more bigger than the challenge so here it is, I accepted that challenge. All for the sake of my ambition.

"Of course I do! Your name is Richard Talis." I huff in triumph after I finished my dialogue. Surely knowing my guess is right.

The Doctor's gaze changed into indescribable glint and let out a hum. The black-coloured hair youthful man, his expression become deeply concern and so as the maple-coloured hair youthful woman. It appears my guess was wrong. The doctor turned and fully face himself toward those two, but before he turned I saw a hint of an expressive of the doctor whom is about to tell his patient a bad news, that define behind the expression carved onto his face.

"Mikhail and Lieza..." The doctor looked at both of them before he told them the result of my medication. "It is sad to say our lord is suffering in a tremendous post-amnesia." Everyone within the room fell silent. Not until I broke the silence, through to spoken again to protest.

"I have remember your-"

"My lord, don't be stubborn, and don't try to lie to us." The doctor exclaimed. "You are mean a lot to us during your absence." The man approached toward me until he stood before my figure still sat, loomed over with a sorrow glint in his eyes. I confess immediately before he could speak once again.

"You are right. I have forgotten who I am and everything." I have decided I will surrendered myself that I had lied and spoke out the truth. It is getting nowhere though if I proceed to lie again, they have caught me red-handed. I would assumed I will surely lose their trust if I reach further. This is getting becoming like a mind game instead of my happy sightseeing.

"I guess we are going to start over." Lieza must be the name I heard from the doctor of the maple-coloured hair woman in black spoke then let a little sigh. Her attention lies over me with a change of expression.

"You don't remember who you are, am I correct?" She softly asked me. I answered back with a single nod.

The maple-coloured hair lass smiled, she gave me a sense of relief. My heart has slowly relaxed, thanked by her little action. But that is the only thing I am feeling right now. I'm starting to get attach on grasping the information about myself, I was referring to the Former holder of this body.

The Doctor took that moment to approached toward the black-coloured hair young man and gave him a pat on the shoulder twice. Thus caused his head to perked up and glance fully at him. "I know it is hard to accept the truth, young lad. Regardless of our lord's illness, you should be glad and thankful he is miraculously alive. Moreover, I will hand this matter to the two of you. You have a history with our lord's life, yes? So then you're carrying all the memories from childhood to you are now which is the present as everybody said. Please use it for his sake." Under that whisper, the black-coloured hair young man gave an understanding nod—His navy eyes widened when the doctor added an another message. It was inaudible for me to reached to hear so I threw that matter aside and continue to reminding myself to not to be forgetful and avoid telling my secret: which is I am not their lord they know before.

"My lord.." The black-colored hair man has now stand right in front of me.

"Mmm-hmmm?" I hummed as a response.

"I shall kindly introduce myself." The man bend his back over to bow respectively and gracefully. "I am Mikhail Akzel. I am your Personal Sentinel. I'll serve you in your hand once again. Even the fact you no longer know me anymore." When that man ended his dialogue, that is when I grasped the opportunity to speak.

"Please someone explain to me the meaning of Sentinel?" I asked, confused. Maple-coloured hair girl come to me then,

"It refers to as one's personal guard. Every noble has one in fact." After a short and simple summary of the explanation, she suddenly pat my shoulder. I never know and familiar with her before however for her she has been perfectly know the owner of this body as same as that guy whom introduced himself as Mikhail Akzel. The doctor were indeed true, those two bear the history of the former body.

"That is quite an obvious. But the difference was the term in name." I got off from my seat, stood straightly between those two. "I need air. My mind is probably under pressure to take the details." I walked past those two. My lips immediately carved into a smirk despite my expression remain the same, knowing they took the bait of my acting. This is great, my objective to explore around this world without restriction has continued—But unfortunately two guards leaned each of my side when I am about to exit.

"My lord, let us accompany you along your way." The guard said whom is at my left side.

My plan has failed. It seem my dream to commit is hard to grasp, so close yet so far. Nevertheless, the next scenario will hopefully sure I flee without their knowing to explore this unknown world by myself alone.

I stayed quiet while walking across the corridor. The Interior and its architecture are a sight to behold and worth to gaze my sight at. Though I feel I familiar about this, possibly in the history I learned during my high school years. What was it— Victorian Design?

I need to know what is the present year of this world. I turned my over my shoulder then I saw those two, Mikhail and Lieza, following behind me. These guards.. I have a Personal Guard in my hand... So I have a status that hold an authority over them. In that case...

"Uh.. My Sentinel. What is year is it?"

I surprisingly gasped inwardly once Mikhail has spoken behind me, unveiling the mystery of my question.

"The year is 1856, my lord." —I wasn't prepared for that revelation. I was expecting near the 15th Millennium judging my based on the interior design, so in other mean is—I am living in the past timeline.

"You all must be old..."

"I beg your pardon?" Mikhail and Lieza both responded.

"Nothing."

"Hmm... Must have been the wind." Lieza pondered.

We walked through few hallways until we have reached the main entrance, that place I did an act to drift then passed away to escaped. There, I saw a man in such outstanding wearing. So tidy, so perfect. Even the posture, so I begun to admired the sight. That, is a true look of fashion.

"My god. I will not accept what I am seeing. A spirit of my beloved dead person before me. Aecieulette?" The man in formal attire said, uttered with in doubt and a little of fear behind it.

"Ashulette? (Nortes is having a hard time pronouncing the name correctly)" I turned around. "Which one of you is Ashulette?" I gave a command at the two guards and one lass and one lad.

As one of the guard raised his hand to speak up but I eventually jump to conclusion. "So you must be Ashulette!"

"You're wrong, my lord!" The guard spoken immediately to correct. "My name is Erik!"

"Then you must be Ashulette!" I point at the second guard.

"Wrong again, my lord. I'm not Aecieulette, I'm Fenrico." The second guard introduced himself.

This is the second time in a row I never been right.

"Tell me which one of you is Ashulette person? So my life become easier." I saw Mikhail approached toward me, bear a expression of which it is told me he has to put an end to my nonsense. So he went straight to the point on telling me that I am Ashulette.

"I can't comprehend of this disaster occured without knowing the story." I was unaware knowing the man in elegant suit stood beside me, from behind. I was spook from a second there so I took a step backward to have a space for myself.

"Lieza."

"I heed your call." Lieza who now stood near me, bow down. "You see here is truly a work of miracle—He came back to life. No wounds, or a scratch." She reach to grab my forearm then play with it to demonstrate. I think this will become my everyday problem from now on.

"Stop it!" I hiss. Lieza followed and gave me a gentle squeeze around my forearm before she stopped.

"Aside... How did it happened. I'm grateful and happy you have returned, Aecieulette." The man was having a hesitation to laid down his hand on my shoulder. "You are warm." When he was finally rest his hand on my shoulder the man's face became lighten. "It's great we have you now. Welcome home."

I steady myself to attempt to break our moment without set an offensive or hostile. After that I gently removed his hand from my shoulder then uttered, "Pardon me but who are you?" The man's expression falter. "What...?" He muttered.

"I can't remember you, mister." I let loose, unbound the truth I'm holding. It was a quick confession before... an unease silence between me and the man.

Luckily, Lieza immediately intrude between us and explained to him of my Illness. The man understand now.

"By the way, who is this man, Lieza?" I asked. As Lieza simply replied,

"This man is..." —But she took a brief moment to read the meaning behind the gesture thoroughly before she surely halt and fall silent once the man rose his arm upward. Yet the man's expression remain unchanged—upset, bother, and disquiet.

"This affair is mine for the taking." Then the man proceed respectively bow. More likely rather giving me assuage. "I am! Decherd Vullete L. Phazard. The Duke of Archires. And! ...I am your Uncle. You are part of us—The Phazard!"

What isArchires? I thought. The Phazard?

This world is full of mysteries than I thought it would be. There are much to discover! And to know about!
