Aurora's grip on Seraphina's hand was firm but not forceful as they walked toward the car. Her heart was still pounding from the encounter, but she kept her face unreadable. She refused to let Catherine's interference shake her—at least not in front of her daughter.
Seraphina, however, was unusually quiet. Too quiet.
Aurora glanced down at her. "Are you okay, baby?"
Seraphina didn't look up right away. Her little brows were furrowed in deep thought, her curls bouncing with each step.
"She was at Grandpa's house," Seraphina finally said, her voice careful. "That lady."
Aurora inhaled slowly, unlocking the car and helping her inside. "I know."
Seraphina climbed into her booster seat but didn't let it go. "She's Dad's mom?"
Aurora's fingers paused on the seatbelt. That was the thing about Seraphina—she always caught on fast. Too fast.
"Yes," Aurora admitted, fastening the buckle.
Seraphina's lips pressed together. She was thinking. Weighing the information.
