"In response to our Bonds—Mega Evolution!"
Mura's eyes widened in disbelief. Hasn't Boss Lairon already reached its final evolution?
Before he could process what was happening, a blinding white light engulfed Boss Lairon.
"What's going on? Why is it evolving again?!" Asha exclaimed in shock.
Even Kamizrei, usually composed, looked stunned. Boss Lairon was already a fully evolved Aggron, yet it was changing once more.
Mura was speechless. Did I time travel? Am I dreaming? His mind struggled to grasp the situation.
As the light intensified, Boss Lairon's body shifted, its silhouette expanding and reshaping. After several moments, the glow faded, revealing its transformed form.
Mega Boss Lairon
• Type: Steel
• Ability: Filter
• Strength: Elite
Aoki smirked. "This is Mega Boss Lairon."
Unlike before, Mega Boss Lairon had changed significantly—not just in power but in its very nature. The Filter ability meant that even super-effective attacks, which would normally deal double damage, were reduced to 1.5× effectiveness. More importantly, it no longer had a glaring 4× weakness to Fighting- and Ground-type moves.
Mura took a step forward, his voice filled with astonishment. "How… is this possible?"
"Simple," Aoki began, his voice calm yet firm. "Boss Lairon and I were ambushed by a Hunter Group once. It was in that moment, when we were pushed to our limits, that this transformation occurred. I believe it's because of our unbreakable Bond that Boss Lairon achieved this evolution."
Aoki's explanation was half-truth, half-deception. In reality, this was Mega Evolution, a temporary but powerful transformation that required a strong trainer-Pokémon connection and a Mega Stone. But Aoki wasn't ready to reveal that yet.
"This evolution doesn't last long," Aoki continued, "and it takes a huge toll on me, but for now, let's battle."
Mura, though still surprised, nodded. "Alright then! Typhlosion, use Earthquake!"
Aoki countered instantly. "Boss Lairon, counter with Earthquake!"
Both Pokémon slammed the battlefield with tremendous force. The entire arena trembled as shockwaves clashed, splitting the ground in two.
Typhlosion and Mega Boss Lairon both winced from the impact, but Typhlosion took the greater damage.
Even though both Pokémon shared a weakness to Ground-type moves, Mega Boss Lairon had the superior Defense and Filter ability, significantly reducing the effectiveness of the attack.
Aoki capitalized on this. "Boss Lairon, Rock Cannon!"
Mega Boss Lairon formed a massive boulder in its hands and hurled it forward with terrifying force.
"Typhlosion, jump and counter with Focus Blast!" Mura ordered.
Typhlosion swiftly dodged the Rock Cannon, then gathered a bright blue sphere of concentrated energy in its paws before launching it at Mega Boss Lairon.
Aoki saw this coming. "Dodge, then use Rock Tomb!"
Despite its usual sluggishness, Mega Boss Lairon narrowly avoided the super-effective Focus Blast, then slammed the ground, summoning massive rocks that ensnared Typhlosion's landing zone.
The moment Typhlosion landed, the rocks crushed around it, making it let out a pained growl.
"Now, close-range Rock Cannon!" Aoki commanded.
Still partially trapped, Typhlosion had no time to react. Mega Boss Lairon smashed a boulder into Typhlosion's side, sending it tumbling across the battlefield.
"Damn it! Typhlosion, get up and use Focus Blast at point-blank range!" Mura barked.
Typhlosion, despite its injuries, charged forward with astonishing speed, gathering another Focus Blast.
"Boss Lairon, prepare to endure!" Aoki called.
The Focus Blast exploded on impact, sending debris flying.
When the dust settled, Mega Boss Lairon was still standing!
"What?! How is Boss Lairon taking these attacks?!" Mura gritted his teeth.
Aoki smirked. "You don't know about Filter, do you?"
The realization hit Mura like a Thunderbolt. Filter had reduced Focus Blast's normally devastating power!
"Amazing…" Mura muttered under his breath.
Aoki clenched his fist. "Alright, Boss Lairon—Earthquake, one last time!"
Mega Boss Lairon stomped down with immense force, sending another massive shockwave across the battlefield.
Mura refused to back down. "Typhlosion, counter with your own Earthquake!"
The two Earthquakes collided in a final showdown, shaking the entire stadium.
Both Pokémon roared in pain as the tremors ravaged their bodies.
Then, suddenly—Typhlosion collapsed to the ground, unconscious!
Mega Boss Lairon, panting heavily, was still standing.
