Chapter 1 - Chapter 1:It all went to black

6 years ago: Everheart Kingdom

***

In the heart of the Everheart kingdom was it's enormous castle stretching high into the sky with a circular generator of outrageous proportions spewing water down the man- made canals alongside the castle's walls into the lake this kingdom was built upon. The rest of the city and kingdom were separated from the castle by a large portion of water surrounding the castle. In one of it's windows near the top was a male child playing the violin in a wide room with no one else.

The child had short black hair and a fair complexion with a slim body structure. He wore a brown suit with brown trousers and black school like shoes. He seemed to exude a sense of elegance from head to toe. He played the instrument beautifully as his body moved to its comforting melody. The room hummed with the soothing melody being released in this concerto as the sound of hurried footsteps was suddenly near the door. It wasn't until a fast projectile blurred past his window that he missed a cord.

"What is tha-" before he could finish asking that question, the door slammed open as a middle aged woman in her forties but looked no older than her late twenties with black hair, light complexion and yellow eyes ran towards his direction before embracing him in a hug.

"Are you ok?, how did it go?, they didn't hurt you did they?!" She pulled him from the hug to right infront of her holding him by the shoulders. He turned his head back to the window wondering what he just felt before turning back and replying.

"Yes, good and yes" he answered, but then noticed her hands leave his shoulders and at that moment realised his blunder and hurriedly tried to fix his mistake.

"I was kidding mother, they couldn't hurt me if they tried, so please... relax!" Fearing what she might do, he even tried to run towards her yet stumbled and just as he was about to fall, she caught him

"Good, this son of mine had me worried" she stated holding him in her arms again before looking at his face.

"You can open your eyes, I told you their beautiful." A moment of hesitation flashed across his face before his eyelids slowly opened. Where there should have been his eyeballs was just a deepening darkness illuminated by a small eerie glowing dot for both eyes. He rubbed his eyes getting used to the light for a moment before looking at his mother's warm smile.

"I didn't want to scare the servants" he said this with the most innocent expression any child might have, making his eyes less eerie

"I don't care, you could have gotten hurt or worse!" With a serious expression she continued.

"They all know what your eyes are like, especially if they work on this part of the castle. Closing your eyes only makes it harder for you, so open them wide with pride." she smiled before whispering in his ear

"If you ask me, I think they make you so different from everyone else... were all a bit lame." He pulled his head back before answering with a shocked expression.

"Your not lame!, your so tall, strong and smart while I'm just scary" Grabbing his cheek and pulling it a bit as she rebuked him

"Your pretty, not scary, ok?"

He looked into her eyes before smiling and just agreeing with her. She led him towards the door walking out with his hand into the large hallway. It had grand stairs in the middle going down from high up stopping between floors.

"Now tell me how was it, did you like walking outside of the castle?" She led him up the stairs asking these questions while paying high attention to his answers which were just short and simple positive remarks.

"Do I really need to wear the blindfold next time, my eyes get itchy?. And I scratch them a lot."

"You shouldn't scratch your eyes if their itchy to begin with!.. but yes, I would like if you didn't but your eyes are too pretty to the point people want to take them for themselves"

He knew she was being nice and they were really just scared but he found it nice she tried

The duo eventually arrived into another hallway that led them into the dining room. Once inside there was a long table that was in the middle of the room where she sat in the middle of the table with her back to the door. The boy went and sat at the side of the table near his mother.

"Where's dad" noticing how no-one aside from them was there in a long time aside from the servants delivering their prepared meals, not failing to notice their hesitant movements when approaching him, raised his curiosity.

"In the throne room dealing with some issues. we'll join him later, for now just enjoy your food." With all of that said he just dug into his food.

After dinner he went with his mother towards the throne room but along the way she looked at him.

"You know, is it that bad to become a dreamknight in your eyes"

Diverting his eyes away he tried to lie.

"No, that's ridiculous, being a dreamknight is the best, who wouldn't want that?"

She crouched to his level, looking him in the eye with a serious expression

"Dear be honest, It's the best thing you can do for someone who cares about you!" Feeling bad he rectified his mistake.

" I don't know what a dreamknight is and while I am thankful that dad let me go outside of the castle, it's only because I'm becoming a knight today which complicates things."

Taking a moment to think his next words over, he continued.

"If I do the things I've always wanted just because I did something I've never wanted to, am I wrong to not like it more because it stops me from doing what I actually want?"

With a complicated look on her face, she though of an answer.

"Um... think of it like doing it helps you do what you like, rather than stopping you from it"

She pauses for a moment, taking a breath and gave him a loving smile.

"Your not wrong for how you feel though and if you decide you really hate doing this, we'll stop the whole thing

With a newfound feeling of courage knowing his mother would be by his side, they went on their way untill they reached the throne room's ancient doors. They towered high above what is average being wide enough to fit two trucks side by side. The steel seemed to tell the story of a bygone era while still exuding an air of commanding deep respect.

As the doors opened slowly, a chill that shook his soul passed by him for a second before disappearing as if it never existed. Walking inside behind his mother, he noticed the familiar unreasonably wide space supported by the occasional long pillars in it's corners. Infront of him was a red carpet going straight to a couple of short stairs that ended on a throne of stone with strange patterns carved on it. Seated on the throne was a man with white hair, a pale complexion and blue cold eyes. He wore a white tuxedo with a blue collar and metal gauntlets. On his head was a gold crown and a stoic expression.

"It's time, are you ready?" An emotionless voice echoed in the room from his lips as he spoke.

A look of hesitation flashed across the boy's face yet when he glanced at his mother, all he saw was a smile that gave him courage.

"Yes.. I am"

"Then close your eyes and imagine something you like. I'll do the rest"

Closing his eyes and imagining himself playing the violin, he felt something stir deep inside untill he was told to open them once more. Infront of him was an unrolled scroll floating in the air that read

Congratulations on choosing the Dreamer's Way!

Name: Zeke Everheart

Knight's blade: Purple lightning

Knight's shield:???

Knight's stage: Novice

Knight's honour: Creation's Anomaly

The scroll rolled back together and burnt out of existence the moment he finished reading it. Turning his head to look back at his mother, he saw her smile gone replaced by fear with her trying to close the small distance between them while his father suddenly moved towards his direction. He finally noticed a dark liquid puddle was under him and yet it wasn't untill his mother's hand was inches away from his did it swallow him into the floor where..

It all went black.
