~Valerie's POV~
"I had no idea the meeting was slated for today," Kai argued, still holding the phone to his ear, but I could hear everything.
"It was shifted. I called you several times before. It was switched off and then—when it came on—you refused to pick up your call. Where the fuck were you, and what the hell have you been doing for you not to—"
"I'll be there," Kai cut in tightly, jaw clenching.
There was no goodbye, no warning. The call ended with a sharp click, his father clearly hanging up mid-rant.
Kai slowly lowered the phone from his ear. His expression had changed, brows furrowed, lips pressed in a thin, frustrated line.
He stood frozen for a beat, staring at nothing in particular before he turned to me, looking like he wanted to throw the damn phone across the room.
I gently shook my head. "He sounded pissed. Just go."
