V3/Chapter 15: This is the spell of anesthesia.
Ai Yue was a man of decisive action. Though Su preferred to deliberate before acting, having agreed to participate in the Super-Transformation Armament trials, he committed fully.
Ten minutes later, both men stood in the same laboratory where Mobius had undergone her procedure.
"Lie down,"
Ai Yue instructed casually while operating the equipment. "Also, if you want to keep those clothes intact, you should remove them first."
"Understood."
Su nodded and began removing his clothes. "By the way, will this procedure... be painful?"
"It doesn't have to be. We can use anesthesia."
Ai Yue smiled. "Though if you share Mobius' extreme dedication to science, you could opt out like she did."
"Dr. Mobius went without anesthesia?!"
Su froze mid-motion. "That must have been excruciating."
"According to her, it was 'tolerable'."
Ai Yue adjusted the equipment. "Far less intense than some of her previous self-experiments."
This reminded Su why his mentor, despite disapproving of Mobius' methods, never intervened—the doctor always tested her theories on herself first. While he disagreed with her approach, he couldn't deny her commitment.
"But why refuse anesthesia?" Su pressed.
"She claimed numbed nerves miss crucial sensory details."
Ai Yue maneuvered the surgical array into position. "Identifying those nuances allows refining the procedure to make it safer for others."
"I see." Su's expression turned contemplative. "Dr. Mobius is truly an admirable researcher."
"Admirable but futile."
Ai Yue's grin turned smug. "My technique was already perfect. She screamed post-op, spent three days analyzing data, and found zero improvements. Her exact words? 'I should've taken the damn anesthesia.'"
'Why did you sound so pleased about that?'
Su gave him a flat look. The unusual camaraderie between Ai Yue and Mobius was Fire Moth's worst-kept secret, thanks to the First Institute's gossip mills. Even Dr. MEI's rumor control couldn't stop the spread, though everyone politely pretended otherwise.
He couldn't fathom why Ai Yue took such joy in Mobius' suffering. Had he known their bet involved Mobius wearing bunny ears for a week, he'd have facepalmed and walked away.
"Final chance to back out,"
Ai Yue sobered, all business now. "Once we start, there's no stopping."
"Proceed. I have no regrets."
Su eyed the massive surgical array descending toward him. "Just don't forget the—"
His vision blurred before he could finish "anesthesia." A fleeting thought pierced the fog—what anesthetic works this fast?—before darkness took him.
Ai Yue pocketed the 8th Herrscher Core with satisfaction.
Anesthesia? Please. Nothing knocked people out like Herrscher power.

When Su awoke, Ai Yue loomed over him with a Cheshire grin:
"Congratulations! The surgery was a complete success! You're now a beautiful woman!"
"You used that joke last time, Dr. Ai Yue."
Su moved to sit up—then froze. "Wait. What am I...?"
Brilliant light forced him to squint. His body... wasn't human anymore. Feathers glimmered across his form, hands replaced by wings that stirred the air with every twitch. His vision had split into binocular and monocular fields simultaneously—he'd become an enormous avian creature.
"A peacock, specifically."
Ai Yue projected a hologram showing Su's Overload Transformation: A resplendent bird spanning half the lab, tail feathers coiled like jeweled rivers across the floor. Fully extended, they'd dwarf the entire facility.
"This is... excessive."
Su's beak clacked in dismay. The flamboyant form violated every principle of his discreet lifestyle. If this was his Overload state, would his Super-Transformation Armament be equally garish?
"Blame your Honkai Beast DNA—that giant peacock wasn't exactly subtle."
Ai Yue waved dismissively. "Don't worry, I'm toning down the color scheme. Rainbow vomit isn't my aesthetic."
"Thank y—"
Su suddenly shuddered, feathers rippling unnaturally.
"Ah! Right on schedule."
Ai Yue activated scanners. "The Super-Transformation Armament sequence is initiating. Hold still—this'll take sixty seconds."
"The sensation is... peculiar."
Su's body convulsed as bones liquefied and reforged, organs reshuffling beneath morphing flesh. The violent metamorphosis ended as abruptly as it began, leaving him humanoid again—albeit clad in emerald-green bio-armor accented with sapphire and umber. His cloak flared like folded tail feathers, their eye-spot patterns preserved but elegantly minimalist.
"Admire yourself later."
Ai Yue tossed him a testing module. "Now—let's see what your new form can do."
