Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Conquest of Yunkai

The sun had risen on a busy city, countless freemen had left their temporary shelters, having filled their bellies with food and looking forward to a day of earnest work and going back home with an earnest day's reward.

Several shelters provided food and a safe place to sleep for all the homeless in the city. The Unsullied and the newly established City guard under Iftar regularly petroled the areas around it to keep away the vagrants and the quickly expanding gangs of pit fighters out of these areas.

Overlooking the city, in the great pyramid was a room with only two occupants, engaged in a lesson that would affect the futures of countless people. The room had only the bare necessities, a bed and a set of chairs around a round wooden table. On one side, Dany scribbled away on a bound booklet while on the other Jafaar ate his breakfast.

Their lessons had started a month ago, Jafaar had begun teaching her the basics of Mathematics, literature, history of the known world, city management and most importantly, economics! Hearing the true history of her family and the sufferings they had caused was a hard, yet necessary, blow to her pride.

"Master, I still fail to understand where I would need to apply this?" Dany grumbled as she racked her mind to solve simple algebraic equations.

"It's not about solving equations, it's about improving your skills in problem solving and logical thinking." Jafaar explained to her.

He had insisted that she call him "Master" because she was now his "Disciple", it was non-negotiable on his part. Naturally she had been hesitant but a few days in she learned that the bed time stories of Viserys and the children's books of Jorah were nothing compared to true knowledge. And hence, the first official relationship between them had taken form.

"A ruler must be everything their subjects are. You must be a scholar, a priest, a healer, a soldier, a general, a merchant, a beggar, a bandit… only a fool claims to rule people she knows nothing about!" Jafaar took her booklet and read through her answer, 'Brilliant…' he admitted but didn't say. Daenerys had proven herself a sponge without her pride and was growing at an astonishing rate.

'She did learn Dothraki within months and has a naturally strategic mind,' he remembered.

"Does this mean I have to learn how to swing a sword too?" she smiled teasingly.

"Of course." her smile froze at Jafaar's words, "Not swordsplay but something far better for you."

"What is it?" she was curious as to what her master had cooked up for her this time.

"A ship named, "Twin Brothers" procured a certain slave from YiTi, bringing it west to Qarth where it was bought at a hefty price by a no name merchant and put on a ship bound to Meereen." Jafaar told her as she looked at him in utter confusion.

"That ship will dock in Meereen two days from now, you will go to the docks and meet your new Master" he instructed her.

"Or…" she started, "I could just ask Ser Barriston to teach me instead." she suggested.

"What Ser Barriston could teach you, so could half the knights in westeros. But what she will teach you…" he smiled menacingly, "I assure you, Westeros has never seen the likes of it."

She didn't ask any more questions relating to this matter anymore and Jafaar walked out to his balcony, "I'll head out to Yunkai now. Dario will be starting his assault in a few hours. I also have to fulfill my promise to Yunkish about knocking down their gates."

She was confused again about how he would make it to Yunkai within hours; Yunkai was about a month away, more than a week even if a rider beat his horse to exhaustion. The confusion didn't last much longer as Jafaar started to float midair, "I'll check up on your progress from time to time and will return after I settle the matters in Yunkai. Try to not ruin Meereen while I'm gone."

Jafaar waved her farewell before turning and flying away into the distance, growing smaller and smaller until it was impossible to see him anymore.

The city rapidly shrunk behind him as he slowly picked up more and more speed. The Fly spell had no cap on how fast you could go so long as you could endure the air resistance but it did have a limit on acceleration. Another limit of the spell was the short flight time. However using Ritual Cast, the time limit had risen from 3 minutes to 5 minutes and in conjunction with Command Element (Air), he could remove the air resistance by a massive degree.

Jafaar didn't have a speedometer but he reckoned that he could be as fast as a commercial airplane at least. This meant he could be in Yunaki in about half an hour and with his enchanted ring, he could easily make that journey once a day without expending his own MP.

Though he wasn't planning on returning until he had Yunkai under his control. It was time to let Dany learn from experience while Jafaar took Yunkai and Astapor under his control, one at a time.

His plan was to install a ruling council in each city with a high inter city council that was under his control. This way he wouldn't have to focus on ruling while having everything under his control.

But to keep his control and to make sure that he won't have to act by himself whenever someone came knocking, he needed an army. That's where Iftar and the upcoming city guard would come in. They would be the beginning of his personal army in Slaver's Bay.

Jafaar flew non-stop, watching the scenery change below him, sometimes flying close to the sea and sometimes the mountains. 'Such a beautiful place… pity it has such barbarity in it. Well, not for long.' He sighed.

Soon enough he could see the yellow city in the distance, the place where he lived for 16 years, the place of his forefathers. 'I wonder if my old house is still around.' he felt melancholic for some reason, 'Maybe I will buy it back now.'

He shook off his thoughts and used his familiar, that was flying above the mercenary encampment, to spy him a place to land. 'Let's make a bang shall we?' he smiled, activated the Reflective Shield spell and got ready to do his superhero landing.

He removed the effects of Command Element (Air) so everyone could hear his approach, he wanted this sound of thunder to be his herald, something that people would associate with him and would immediately know despair because that was exactly what brought Yunkai, hopelessness against an impossible foe.

He flew hundreds of feet above ground and once he reached the spot between the city and the mercenary forces, he nosedived straight down.

*BHAOOM!*

A shockwave spread from the impact, kicking up a dust cloud.

*WHoosh*

He flew from the dust cloud and quickly flew to the front of the army where Dario had been told to stay. He landed softly amidst the fearful and awed gazed of the defenders and the mercenaries.

"Are the preparations complete?" he asked an uncommonly silent Dario who nodded in return, "Good, charge towards the city! Spare those that surrender… kill the rest." Jafaar had a dangerous gleam in his eyes.

Dario immediately charged towards the city as Jafaar flew above them. The rain of arrows and stones came as they neared the city and he sped up ahead.

He Over Cast a Shockwave spell that blasted away the city gates and came to a stop midair several meters above the defenders on the wall.

"You have broken your bond. Now your city will fall!" he declared, using Command Element (Air) to carry his voice through the city, "Surrender, or die!" he raised his left hand and 20 small green crystals shimmered into existence.

*Whoosh*

They sped away, striking the defenders on the wall with pinpoint accuracy.

*DIng*

An arrow struck a translucent blue shield inches away from him as Jafaar paused and looked at a dumbstruck man holding a bow, "I am impressed… You are spared for your courage." he pardoned the shivering man before continuing his work on the battlements. By the time the mercenary army reached the gates, there was no one on the walls to hinder them; many were dead while most had fled.

The city fell within hours and Jafaar rounded up the wise masters of the city, used Telepathy to find the 3 most rebellious ones and had their heads on a spike at city gates. 'Kill a chicken to warn the monkey.' as they say. Or in this case, he killed the snakes that would undoubtedly try to spew poison at him later on.
