As the Terronis dove toward her, something primal and foreign took over Rexan's body. Her vision shifted to stark shades of black and white, and a dark aura filled the room, thick like choking smoke. Strange, ancient words spilled from her lips in an otherworldly tone, "#@$&#_$@#*," as though her voice was not her own.
She stretched her arms out, and the Terronis faltered mid-flight. Its energy began to drain, pulled irresistibly toward her. Its life force flowed into her body, and the vibrant brown feathers darkened to an ominous midnight black. Its piercing yellow eyes transformed into glowing white orbs, radiating unnatural power.
The room plunged into a suffocating darkness as time itself seemed to stand still, recoiling in shock.
The Terronis landed before her, submissive and docile, then bowed its massive head. Rexan instinctively reached out, her hand trembling as it caressed the bird's head. Her lips moved again, but this time, the words were her own.
