"You're stuck with me, too?" Selene chuckled softly to herself at her own words as she and Nikolas walked into the main room.
Seeing Mr. Fredrick had been the silver lining she needed to calm down.
She had been so worried about what people might say about her coming back home, if they would welcome her or shun her.
Although she knew she still had to face her father, seeing a familiar face smile at her was enough to remind her that she could do this.
Mr. Fredrick had aged a bit but was still the cheerful old man she remembered.
"Selene, you didn't tell me your family was loaded," Nikolas teased, nudging her shoulder as they entered the ballroom.
Though Nikolas had seen far more extravagant sights in his lifetime, he was still impressed by how big her family's house turned out to be.
