Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: The Sky That Holds Us

The day had begun to slip into twilight, the sun melting into the horizon, painting the sky in strokes of orange, pink, and deepening blue. The air was thick with the scent of roses, their petals kissed by the golden light, and the breeze carried the soft rustle of leaves, as if whispering secrets only the earth could understand.

We lay on the wooden deck, side by side, staring up at the sky. The garden stretched around us, but at this moment, it was the sky that held us, that wrapped us in its vast, endless embrace.

"You ever think about how the sky never really ends?" you murmured, your voice soft, blending into the hush of the evening.

I turned my head slightly, watching the way the fading light reflected in your eyes. "How do you mean?"

You exhaled, thoughtful. "Even when the sun sets, even when the stars disappear behind the clouds, the sky is still there. It doesn't change, even when we can't see it." You paused, turning your gaze toward me. "Maybe love is like that too."

I let your words sink in, feeling their weight settle somewhere deep in my chest. "So even when we don't say it, even when life pulls us away, it's still there?"

You gave a small nod. "Always."

Silence stretched between us, but it wasn't empty it was full, brimming with something more powerful than words. The sky darkened, the first stars beginning to flicker to life, tiny pinpricks of light against the vast canvas above.

I reached for your hand, feeling the familiar warmth of your touch, the quiet reassurance that had always been there. "Then let's never forget to look up," I whispered.

A soft smile tugged at your lips. "Never."

And as the stars watched over us, as the night settled around our garden, I knew no matter where life took us, no matter how many sunrises and sunsets passed this love, like the sky, would never truly end.
