DoorMan #111

Red Hearth, Mars[May 2008]

–Colin Baxter–

He was wide awake, sitting in front of his desk, watching over a satellite overlay of the Arc Reactor being transported to Afghanistan. Obviously, the man could not reach the country, but transporting everything to the nearby friendly countries was totally possible.

His fingers, conjured as they were, twitched every now and then, reflecting his mental dilemma. For now, Tony was safe and his story of being betrayed by Stanee would probably not happen because there was no Iron Monger suit to recreate. Only the one that Tony could build.

Once the details of Tony's Gulimira raid trickled down the intelligence chain, eventually reaching Stane's ears, he would make a move, either to kill Tony or to kidnap him once more to make a bigger, better suit. Though, Stane should have wisened up by now, having been burned once already, so the most probable answer would be Tony's murder.

That left Stane the suit that Tony already had, and for them to seize that, they would need to compromise Jarvis. Compromising Jarvis, as he is now, should not be impossible if Tony was either stupid enough to centralise Jarvis' processing into a single place that is vulnerable to EMPS or trusting enough to grant Stane or someone at Stark Industries backdoor access to Jarvis.

"Ah, fuck this," He said while deactivating the spell he had active in his other hand, the one with the targeted magnetism, which he was practicing just in case. In the book he was consulting, it was written that with enough practice, one could reach a high enough level that they could then sense the Earth's magnetic field.

Now neither he nor the Author was stupid enough to try and mess with the magnetic field that made life as they knew it possible but using that connection, it was possible to just piggyback off the Earth's magnetic field to unleash magnetic spells to devastating effects.

He was getting some real Magneto vibes from that spell, and not just movie Magneto, comic book Magneto, who was a menace, capable of going toe to toe with the strongest of Gods in some comics.

The spell itself took a time to shut off properly, once the flow of energy was cut off from his side. Once that was done, he locked his office and went down to the Portal room, mentally pinging Jin'Ya with a picture, to open the portal.

The portal was already open by the time the door to the Portal room opened up, as he jumped through it, finding himself mid air, with the sun shining brightly on his orange suit. He was currently camouflaged and on his way straight down to the shipping container he could see, parked in the middle of a veritable ocean of containers, right next to a busy port.

He let gravity do the job as he plummeted towards the approximate location of the Arc Reactor. Once he got close enough, he could probably see Tony fly through the container so he was not really worried about the exact container number.

Slowing down before impact, he nicely sat down, feet dangling on one of the containers, which were really hot to touch but thankfully, while he could tell that the surface was hot, he could not really feel it since the suit was pretty insulated from extreme temperatures.

Now, all that was left was to wait for Tony to arrive, and for him to begin his first fight. Man, he felt like such a stalker, stalking after the person whose first fight itself would be so badass.

"You do realise you are still far away from reaching the levels of Mastery in sorcery that is expected from you?" Jin'Ya mentally asked him, making him grumble at the Dragon. It was never enough! No matter how hard he tried, and how much he practiced, it would never be enough, not for the likes of Jin'Ya or the Ancient One anyway.

Freaking old Monsters expecting someone like him, barely two decades old, to reach their standards of Sorcery. At this point, he wagered he was already better at Dimensional Energy manipulation than most Sorcerers in Kamar Taj, even the combat oriented ones like Mordo, with a large library of spells being the only thing that he lacked compared to them.

Even then, the small number of spells he does know, he could cast in his sleep, not needing more than a second to activate them. It was all almost instinctive to him by now and yet, every time he tried to tell Jin'Ya that he needed more spells, the Dragon would shoot him down and tell him to improve on the existing spells.

For example, the magnetism spell he could understand because that one spell could just open so many doors for him, beyond the usual repertoire of reality bending that one usually gets when they become Sorcerer Supreme, like Strange.

But the others? Like the healing lights of Alfeim? He could already do mass healings on a never before seen level with his Chi Doors. Why would he need a spell to borrow the powers of a hidden race? Who, by the way, did a morality check on each and every one of their casters before they are allowed to borrow the powers of the race that was the most mysterious in all of the Nine Realms, having hidden themselves after the Goddess of Death, Hela, did a number on their population, decimating their already small number.

He was brought out of his thoughts by a muffled curse, one that sounded suspiciously similar to Tony. He smiled as he got up and using his Air Doors, moved to the north of the jungle of containers, near the port area. All of the containers were silent, with no moving part inside them but only one had the distinct sound of a person breathing, rather heavily at that.

He could see that the container doors were just pulled open, instead of being locked so he dropped the stealth spell, and opened the door, creating a loud creaking noise. He almost smiled upon seeing Tony, in the middle of suiting up, with his one hand already pointed at the entrance of the container, his face set in a look of anxiety.

That look disappeared instantly as the man scowled at him. He then focused on getting his suit on him properly. As far as he could tell, the suit was being put on him half by a very small machine and half by himself, which was clearly a struggle if he ever saw one.

"Don't just stand there. Help me!" Tony said and he scrambled to do so, holding up clearly heavy parts, so much so that even the small robot that Tony brought here could not hold them up properly, lacking the leverage to do so.

"A little too late to come back for revenge, don't you think? I saw the compound you blew up, I don't think there were any weapons left," He commented idly, helping the man put on his chest piece, the Arc Reactor creating a subtle glow in the container, as all the parts, save for the faceplate, were now assembled properly.

"Not here for that," Tony grunted as he moved about, checking his range of motion, a rather rudimentary way of diagnosis for the man who had it all.

"Then what?" He asked, receiving no answer.

"You coming with?" Tony asked, in his cool modulated voice once the faceplate was on. He had to take a moment to marvel at the suit, with the blue glowing eyes. It was every bit as badass and cool as he had hoped. So, he could be forgiven for the next words that tumbled out of his mouth.

"Can I ride next time?"

He could feel Tony's confusion from inside the faceplate, "I am just going to ignore that. Now, if you will, come with me if you want to live."

If he had X-ray vision, he would totally be able to confirm that Tony was smirking inside the faceplate as a near perfect recreation of the Arnold spoke from Tony's suit. Wanting to seem nonchalant, he said, "Nerd."

"Whatever." Tony laughed and pushed open the container doors before rocketing away, shaking the container as he shook his head and followed suit, using Air Doors to propel himself to reach his speed. He wondered if this version of Tony's suit could breach the sound barrier or not.

He flew side by side with Tony as the man's hand extended towards him, holding onto a small..

Ah, an earpiece. The risk of Tony somehow taking a scan of magically enchanted clothes and reverse engineering them being low, he took the offered earpiece and attached it to his ears. As soon as he did that, Tony's smug voice came through.

"So you use air currents to fly. How does that work?"

He smirked and ignored the question as he just said, "Keep up,"

Doubling the speed instantly, he was rewarded with a sharp intake of air from Tony as the man too accelerated but did not have the same acceleration curve that the Air Doors did.

"Slow down!" In the end, Tony had to admit defeat because–

Oh!

He looked down to see a small sized town, and his enhanced eyesight allowed him to see multiple trucks converging on the town, with multiple big ones already inside, with people fleeing left, right and centre. It was all chaotic.

He saw Tony's arc of flight seamlessly change, turning into a dive, picking up speed as he flew towards the people of Galmira. He let gravity take hold as he too began plummeting towards their target.

Getting his Chi Door ready since he was sure everyone there was going to need some form of healing, he flew down, right after Tony who was already in the process of slowing down using the flaps on his back.

Man, he did not expect the debut of his healing prowess to be in a place like this.

Oh, well.
