"What the hell??"

Silas couldn't help blurting out as he looked at the status screen Zero had produced for Gible.

He considered himself an experienced Trainer, yet even he was stunned by Gible's data.

So many Egg Moves, could Zero have malfunctioned?

"No."

After thinking for a moment, Silas quickly came to a reasonable conclusion.

"It's just, the odds are ridiculously low. And to inherit this many at once."

He looked at Gible with a strange expression.

Could this little guy really be one of those legendary lucky people?

Everyone knew that Pokémon Egg Moves, also known as inherited moves, were one of the deepest areas of Pokémon research.

Especially now that Pokémon weren't restricted by the game's four-move limit.

Under those circumstances, in theory, a Pokémon could inherit almost every move it might ever learn after hatching.

In reality, however, that was impossible.

According to Professor KuKui's research, most baby Pokémon inherited the moves their father, mother, or genderless parent excelled at the most.

Generally speaking, the higher a Pokémon's potential, the more Egg Moves it could inherit, although this wasn't absolute.

Normally, inheriting more than four Egg Moves was extremely rare.

Take Blaziken, for example. It had only inherited three Egg Moves.

But Gible had inherited seven.

The most likely explanation, aside from its exceptional talent and incredible luck, was the occurrence of an extremely rare phenomenon known as chain inheritance.

Simply put, some of Gible's inherited moves hadn't come from its parents, but from its grandparents or perhaps even earlier ancestors.

After making a few calculations, Silas guessed that Aggron, Salamence, and Dragonite all appeared somewhere in the little Pokémon's family tree.

That actually made sense.

After all, those Pokémon lived relatively close to one another inside the Dragon's Den.

It wasn't as though every Pokémon only bred within its own species forever.

Perhaps it was also related to the method the Garchomp leader had told him about.

Come to think of it, Blaziken was probably a similar case.

Either Counter or Agility had likely come from one of its grandparents rather than its parents. Compared to Gible, however, the number was pitifully small.

Or rather a Gible inheriting this many Egg Moves was simply incredibly rare.

According to the information Silas had only recently learned, the Pokémon currently holding the record for the most inherited moves was an Elite-level Charizard with ten Egg Moves.

Although Gible had two fewer, it possessed Champion potential and was also a pseudo-legendary Pokémon.

Overall, Gible clearly came out ahead.

"What an incredible surprise!"

Silas repeated what he'd said earlier, unable to stop smiling.

How could he not be excited?

With so many Egg Moves, even though many of them could eventually be learned after evolving into Garchomp, they would dramatically increase Gible's combat strength during its first two evolutionary stages.

More importantly, mastering moves earlier meant beginning specialized training earlier.

Take Outrage, for example.

One Gible started training it from birth, while another only began after evolving into Garchomp.

Naturally, the first would possess much greater proficiency and considerably stronger power.

"Gwah?"

Feeling Silas's burning gaze fixed on it, Gible instinctively took a step backward.

For some reason, it suddenly had a bad feeling.

"Come here, little guy. Here's some delicious MooMoo Milk. It's very good for your body."

Silas cheerfully took out a bottle of premium MooMoo Milk from his Space Backpack and waved it toward Gible.

For newborn Pokémon, eating and drinking were naturally the most important things.

Training could wait until after the infant stage.

Growl..

Gible had only just hatched, so its stomach was completely empty.

Smelling the rich aroma of the MooMoo Milk immediately made it hungry.

"Gwah!"

Without any hesitation, Gible leaped forward and bit onto the bottle full of MooMoo Milk.

Its mouth slowly opened wider.

"Bla!"

"Vee!"

"Gallade!"

"Don't eat the bottle, Gible!"

Panicked cries erupted throughout the training ground.

It was obvious that the newborn Gible wasn't just inexperienced, it was unbelievably energetic.

Perched lazily on top of Silas's head, Dreepy rolled over and glanced down at what was technically half of a fellow Dragon-type.

"Dree~"

It let out a mysterious little cry.

"Pfft."

Seeing Silas covered in a complete mess, then looking at Gible hanging from Gigalith while happily chewing on the rock attached to its body, Clair immediately understood what had happened.

No one understood the boundless energy of newborn Dragon-type Pokémon better than she did.

Even the timid Dratini were incredibly troublesome immediately after hatching.

Their naturally powerful physiques gave them endless stamina.

Most baby Pokémon tired themselves out after ten or twenty minutes.

Dragon-types usually started at an hour.

"So?"

She smiled brightly.

"How is it?"

Silas's hand twitched.

"Very good."

"Hahahahaha!"

Clair covered her mouth as she laughed happily.

"Now that Gible has hatched, I suppose you're leaving soon?"

"Yeah."

Silas nodded.

"Professor Elm has urged me several times already. If I keep delaying, it won't look very good."

Clair simply smiled and nodded without saying anything else.

The two chatted as they walked and soon arrived at the entrance of the Blackthorn Gym.

"Roar!"

The chubby Dragonite descended from the sky and curiously stared at the Gible chewing on Gigalith.

Gigalith nodded and greeted the large Dragon-type.

Over the past two weeks, not only had Silas and Clair become familiar with one another, but so had all of their Pokémon.

Dragonite happily wagged its tail before approaching Gible.

Plop.

With one hand, it effortlessly picked up the tiny Gible.

"Gwah? Gwah!"

Gible had been happily chewing on the rock when it suddenly found its meal gone.

It was just about to cry when it realized something. It looked down at the ground far below before looking around.

Its eyes immediately lit up with excitement.

"Gwah! Gwah!"

Without the slightest hesitation, it happily called out to Dragonite.

Dragonite grinned warmly.

"Roar."

It called toward Silas and the others.

"You want to take it flying for a bit?"

Silas understood Dragonite's meaning.

"Sure. Just don't take too long. I still need to visit the Dragon's Den before heading out."

He wasn't worried about Gible being taken away.

For one thing, Dragonite wasn't just decoration. For another, Gible had already been officially caught and registered inside one of his Poké Balls.

"Roar."

Dragonite confidently pounded its chest.

Leave it to me.

Moments later, it flapped its tiny wings and soared into the sky.

"Gible!"

Feeling a completely new sensation compared to before, the Gible dangling from Dragonite's claws cried out excitedly.

Dragonite grinned with its usual goofy smile and suddenly opened its claws.

"Gibleee!"

"Hmm, looks like it's having a lot of fun."

After finishing arranging the delivery schedule for the next batch of training supplies with Clair, Silas looked up at the tiny black dot barely visible in the sky and nodded in satisfaction.

As a senior Dragon-type Pokémon, Dragonite would undoubtedly leave a deep impression on Gible.

That would make training Gible much easier in the future.

For young Pokémon, having a clear goal was very important.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have asked Clair's Dragonite to take Gible flying around.

Ten minutes later.

Dragonite landed on the ground with the same carefree expression.

The Gible in its claws looked completely traumatized. The instant its feet touched the ground, it scrambled away as fast as it could.

"Gible! Gibleee!"

It ran to Silas, grabbed onto his pant leg with its tiny claws, and began tearfully complaining.

Unfortunately, Silas completely misunderstood its intentions.

To him, Gible was expressing its admiration for Dragonite's overwhelming strength and its longing to fly.

He crouched down and gently patted Gible's head.

"It's okay. Once you evolve into Garchomp, you'll be able to fly just like Dragonite."

"Gible?"

A huge question mark practically appeared over Gible's head as it tilted it sideways.

Are we even talking about the same thing?

Then again if it evolved into Garchomp and became stronger than Dragonite, wouldn't it be able to beat Dragonite into the ground whenever it wanted?

Under Silas's satisfied gaze, Gible nodded solemnly.

Perfect.

Another flawless lesson in raising a baby Pokémon.

Silas couldn't help praising himself inwardly.

"Let's go. I've already spoken with the Dragon's Den staff. You can take this little one back to visit its parents, but only briefly. It'll also need to undergo an inspection afterward."

Clair returned to the entrance after finishing the arrangements.

Holding Gible in his arms, Silas smiled.

"Then I'll thank you on this little guy's behalf."

"Gible!"

Having completely recovered its spirits, Gible cheerfully called out to Clair.

"No need to thank me. Good luck at the Silver Conference!"

Watching Silas ride away toward the Dragon's Den on Pidgeot's back, Clair waved goodbye to her new friend.

Behind her, Dragonite also raised a claw in farewell.

"Come on. We still have work to finish today."

Dressed in her usual cool outfit, Clair patted Dragonite on the back.

"Let's work a little harder during this period. Maybe we'll have time to watch that guy battle at the Silver Conference."

"I'm really looking forward to it."

Dragonite narrowed its eyes happily and nodded.

Meanwhile.

Brock, who had been training his Golden Magikarp outside Blackthorn City, received a message from Silas.

Bare-chested, he sat cross-legged on the ground, his bronze-colored skin glistening in the sunlight.

"So it's time to leave."

Stretching lazily, Brock slowly stood up.

"Ninetales~"

Ninetales gracefully trotted over to him.

"Alright, alright. It's already hot enough. Be good."

Feeling the temperature around him rise thanks to Ninetales' presence, the sweat-covered Brock could only smile helplessly.

His own Pokémon deserved to be spoiled a little.

"Let's head back to the Pokémon Center."

He recalled Magikarp and Ninetales before sending out Onix as transportation.

Rumble, the massive Onix surged forward, carving a deep trench through the ground.

By the time Brock arrived at the entrance of the Blackthorn City Pokémon Center, Silas, now wearing a fresh set of clothes, was already waiting.

"Yo. You're pretty quick."

Brock greeted him casually.

Silas shrugged.

"The little guy's parents didn't drag things out. Everything ended pretty smoothly."

If not for that spoiled prince of a Garchomp smelling the items inside his backpack and insisting on getting some for itself, things probably would have ended even faster.

Right now, it was most likely being put through brutal battle training by its father.

The two chatted and laughed as they headed toward the southern exit of Blackthorn City.

The Pokémon Marine Research Institute was a newly established research facility located between Blackthorn City and New Bark Town.

Its purpose was to study Pokémon marine biology and investigate the Pokémon living in the ocean.

The institute wasn't large.

In fact, it was rather small.

Only one researcher was responsible for running the entire facility.

"Researcher Naomi! Those ocean Pokémon are back again!"

A middle-aged guard in uniform rushed into the laboratory and shouted toward a young female researcher.

"When is that Trainer finally arriving? At this rate, we won't meet this month's research targets again!"

The young woman, Naomi, who was the head researcher of the institute, rubbed her temples.

"Don't worry. Professor Elm sent me a message. The Trainer has already left Blackthorn City and should arrive sometime this afternoon."

"I know powerful Trainers are busy, but this is getting ridiculous."

The guard couldn't hide the frustration in his voice.

"I'm truly sorry. Please bear with us a little longer. Once that Trainer arrives, this problem should finally be resolved."

Naomi apologized sincerely.

The guard opened his mouth as if he wanted to complain further but ultimately held back, leaving the laboratory with an irritated expression.

"Wingull, use Rain Dance!"

The sound of battle commands echoed outside.

Naomi slowly walked onto the wooden observation platform extending from the institute.

Looking down at the large groups of marine Pokémon gathering below, her extensive research experience told her this situation was anything but normal.

Ordinarily, even if a human structure built along a seaside cliff disturbed the local Pokémon's habitat, it shouldn't provoke resistance on this scale.

Before construction had even begun, she had thoroughly surveyed the surrounding waters.

Aside from the migrating Lapras herd that regularly passed through the area, the only Pokémon that permanently lived nearby were Staryu and Slowpoke.

Unlike Tentacool and Tentacruel, those Pokémon weren't known for being particularly hostile.

Yet after the research institute was established, not only did the Staryu and Slowpoke populations become aggressive, but even relatively uncommon Pokémon like Golduck suddenly began appearing nearby.

Without warning, they attacked the construction workers.

Caught completely off guard, many workers suffered serious injuries.

Fortunately, her mentor, Professor Elm, had assigned a number of guards to protect the site.

Otherwise...
