Chapter 412 - Chapter 412: Ninja Academy

After walking out of the small forest, Silas still felt like everything that had just happened was a bit surreal.

The three Legendary Beasts were they really that easy to deal with?

If every Legendary Pokémon were like them, he could probably collect a full set of items from all Legendaries.

If nothing else, the prestige alone would be off the charts.

Unfortunately, that was obviously impossible.

Just thinking about the "Hoenn trio" their personalities and intelligence, Silas figured he'd be beaten to death the moment he got close.

Feeling the heat radiating from the Flame Orb in his pocket, along with the faint tingling sensation from the Electric Seeds, Silas began thinking about how to use them.

The latter was easy.

Ampharos was the obvious choice.

For it, the boost to Defense was secondary, the increase in electrical power would push it even further toward a powerful "artillery" playstyle.

But the Flame Orb had many possible uses.

Aside from letting Blaziken and Pidgeot comprehend the Sacred Fire within it.

A standard Flame Orb burns the holder at the end of each turn (unless it has the Ability Water Veil), and can also burn an opponent if thrown.

Even though Entei's Flame Orb had an additional effect, its base function still remained.

This meant that if Ursaring, with the Ability Guts, held it, its already powerful physical attacks would increase dramatically.

After all, a Pokémon with Guts gains about a 50% Attack boost when afflicted with a status condition and is not affected by the Attack drop from burn.

Combined with Flame Orb, it was practically a perfect synergy.

Sure, it would lose some HP over time…

But in exchange, it would gain Attack power even more terrifying than Slaking, without being hindered by Truant.

No matter how you looked at it, it was an incredible deal.

If that didn't work out, he could always consider training a Milotic with the Ability Marvel Scale to hold it.

He still lacked a Water-type Pokémon anyway.

With Milotic's movepool, it could easily recover the HP lost from burn each turn.

Meanwhile, Marvel Scale would boost its Defense by around 50% while statused.

That combination was another massive power increase.

And since Milotic didn't rely on physical attacks, the burn drawback was almost irrelevant.

That said, if he really raised a Milotic, Silas still felt Leftovers would suit it better—making it a king of endurance battles in water.

At the end of the day, a Pokémon's strength in battle depended on many factors.

A Trainer's job was to maximize that strength.

There were many combinations like Guts + Flame Orb.

For example:

Poison Heal + Toxic Orb

Sheer Force + Life Orb

Silas figured he could experiment with these in the future.

The only reason he hadn't before?

Simple.

He was broke.

These orbs were incredibly rare and expensive, top-tier items in the market.

Most people had never even seen one, let alone bought one.

Everyone understood their value. Such items could elevate entire categories of Pokémon by one or even two tiers.

Anyone who obtained one would keep it for themselves.

"Vulpix…"

The Vulpix in his arms shifted uncomfortably, feeling the heat coming from below.

It was already hot in the middle of summer—why was its Trainer carrying something like this so close to his body?

Thinking this, it increased the intensity of the cold it emitted, trying to suppress the heat of the Flame Orb.

But as a still relatively low-level Pokémon, it stood no chance against the power contained within Entei's Flame Orb.

No matter how much Ice-type energy it released, the heat remained steady and overwhelming.

"Vulpix…"

With a sigh, Vulpix scampered up Silas's arm and settled on top of his head.

Silas, deep in thought, suddenly felt a chilling cold spread across his scalp.

It was like dunking his head into a bucket of ice in the middle of summer refreshing, but intense.

He grabbed Vulpix by the scruff of its neck and brought it in front of him.

Vulpix stared back innocently.

Silas sighed.

"Stay on my shoulder, not my head. I'll get sick like this."

He might be in good shape, but he wasn't superhuman, constant sub-zero temperatures on his head would definitely cause problems.

He placed Vulpix on his left shoulder.

Still cold, but much more tolerable.

Vulpix adjusted its position, found it wasn't comfortable for sleeping, and instead grabbed onto Silas's collar while looking around.

"Vulpix!"

It pointed forward with its tiny paw, urging him to keep moving.

Evening, Pokémon Ninja Academy

Inside the academy, Janine placed several cups of tea on the table.

Vulpix curiously licked one and immediately recoiled, eyes rolling from the bitterness, before scrambling back behind Silas.

Across the table, an elderly man with completely white hair, dressed in ninja attire, laughed heartily.

"Hahaha! I see now. My apologies our students have been a bit too tense lately."

Silas scratched his head awkwardly.

"I also bear some responsibility. I should've explained who I was first instead of letting things escalate like that."

In short he had accidentally entered the academy's testing grounds, been mistaken for an enemy and ended up beating all the students.

"No, no," the headmaster shook his head.

"The wilderness changes constantly. It only proves they have yet to grasp the true essence of being a ninja.

If ancient ninjas acted like them on missions, they would have surely died."

Janine nodded in agreement.

"I even think this entire batch should fail. Based on today's performance, they are still far from becoming true ninjas."

"Vulpix!"

Vulpix nodded seriously as well.

Silas smacked its head lightly.

"What are you nodding for? Like you did anything."

After some discussion, the headmaster and Janine learned of Silas's purpose.

"No wonder that person said he would come guide our students," the headmaster sighed.

"I thought our request had finally been approved."

Silas grew curious.

"I still don't know which senior is coming. Could you tell me?"

The headmaster didn't keep him guessing.

"It's the League's Chief Fighting Instructor—Master Chen. He's said to be quite close with Alder."

"Wait, what?" Silas blurted out in surprise.

Janine raised an eyebrow.

"What, you know him?"

Silas thought for a moment. "I wouldn't say I know him well, more like we've met once. I saw him before at the Kanto Pokémon Research School."

That was the powerful Trainer who had seen through Blaziken's potential at a glance. According to Instructor Gota, he even possessed a special ability, Aura.

Back then, even his newly evolved Blaziken admitted it probably couldn't win in close combat against that "human-shaped Pokémon."

Silas hadn't expected that the one replacing Alder for this "test" would be him.

That's right, the powerful Trainer from Unova who had agreed to help his Karrablast evolve through trade evolution was none other than the Unova Champion, Alder.

Silas had found it hard to believe when he first learned that.

After all, that was a regional Champion.

And at this point in time, Alder was definitely not among the weaker Champions.

Even though Silas had Steven and Cynthia in his contacts, it didn't lessen his excitement in the slightest.

Alder's most famous Pokémon was, of course, his Volcarona, known as the "Sun Pokémon," widely recognized as the strongest of its kind.

At the same time, his Accelgor and Escavalier were also renowned across multiple regions.

If Champions didn't generally train a wide variety of types, Alder could easily be considered a Bug-type specialist Champion.

Given all this, Silas felt there was no need to worry about Karrablast's evolution anymore.

"Hmph. Don't fail the test when the time comes," Janine said sourly.

She had to admit, she was a little jealous.

Silas shrugged."Well, someone who lost to me wouldn't understand~"

"Hey!"

Janine gritted her teeth at his smug expression.

It wasn't like she had used her main team in that Gym battle.

Still she had to admit that his growth rate was ridiculous.

How did someone raise a Pokémon to Elite-level strength in just a year and a half?

And from what she'd heard, he might soon have a second or even third.

She still remembered the amazement in her brother Koga's voice when he told her about it.

And not just that…

"According to analysis, the League's higher-ups believe Silas likely possesses a special ability known as Viridian Power.

It may not be fully awakened yet, but he can already roughly sense Pokémon conditions.

This explains why his Pokémon all have excellent potential and suffer minimal lasting injuries from training. It's an incredibly powerful ability, he's one lucky kid."

Thinking back to what Koga had said, Janine felt even more bitter.

Viridian Power, something only one person might possess every ten years.

In terms of utility and rarity, it surpassed even psychic powers.

Healing, sensing, communication.

Even if it couldn't teleport like Psychic or fight like Aura users, for a Trainer or Breeder, it was arguably the best possible ability.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Silas shivered slightly."I was just joking…"

He had no idea that the League had already labeled him as a Viridian Power user.

Though, to be fair, the way his "Zero" ability worked did resemble it quite a bit.

Except for one key difference, he couldn't heal.

Otherwise, he'd already be unstoppable.

"Nothing. I just think you're ugly," Janine replied expressionlessly.

Silas: "???"

The headmaster sipped his tea, teasing Vulpix, thinking how refreshing youthful energy was.

After reliving the taste of student cafeteria food, Silas was brought to the dormitory area.

The Ninja Academy functioned like a boarding school, with dorms built across the complex, all made entirely of wood.

"Well," Janine explained casually,

"we occasionally burn down the dorms to train their emergency response skills then have them rebuild them to practice survival."

Silas: "…?"

Without Pokémon, anyone suggesting that kind of training would probably be considered insane.

As a guest, Silas was fortunate enough to get a private room.

Unfortunately, with several of his Pokémon occupying the lower bunk, he had no choice but to climb up to the top bunk with a sigh.

Through the wooden window, he could see the moonlit training field and forest outside—quiet and still.

"Alright, time to sleep. Rest well—tomorrow's test won't be easy."

After spacing out for a bit, Silas finally stopped his increasingly rowdy Pokémon.

Even though he was confident, a test conducted by someone at Champion level was obviously not going to be simple.

Better to be well-prepared.

"…Blaze…"

"…Pidge…"

Silas twitched.

Why did it sound like Blaziken and Pidgeot were teaming up to mock him?

Must be his imagination.

Soon, the room fell silent as each Pokémon settled into their usual sleeping spots.

But no one noticed—

Outside, the sky had begun to darken.

Clouds slowly covered the bright moon.

A cold wind, unnatural for the season started to blow.

Snow began to fall.

"Brr…"

In his sleep, Silas shivered and pulled his blanket tighter.

"Achoo—!"

Clearly, that didn't help.

"Hey stop messing around go to sleep…" he muttered groggily, assuming Vulpix was the culprit.

Late-night mischief—classic.

Vulpix, now awake, looked confused.

But feeling the sudden cold, it happily curled up and closed its eyes again.

For an Ice-type Pokémon, this environment was perfect.

"Gallade."

Gallade, with its psychic senses, was the first to notice something was wrong.

Its eyes snapped open as it stared outside.

The world was now covered in snow.

But it clearly remembered, before sleeping, everything had been lush and green.

"Gallade!"

It quickly floated over and woke Silas.

The blanket slipped off as Silas sat up, yawning, then immediately shivered.

"What the—?! What's going on?!"

"Something's wrong," Gallade communicated telepathically.

Still irritated from being woken up by the cold, Silas got dressed.

"Let's go. We're checking this out."

He gathered all nine of his Pokémon and headed outside.

With such a disturbance, the others had naturally woken up too.

The dorm area was eerily quiet.

It seemed like no one else had noticed.

Silas checked his watch.

3:30 AM.

"…You've got to be kidding me."

When he reached the training field, he saw the white-haired headmaster standing alone in the open, staring up at the sky.
