Chapter 379 - Chapter 379: Joining the Team

The auction of the Thunder Stone and Water Stone had nothing to do with Silas anymore.

He obediently remained in his VIP room as a spectator.

Because those two types were more common, both high-quality Evolution Stones sold for noticeably higher prices than the Ice Stone, Especially the slightly higher-quality Water Stone.

Once all items from the first three pages had found their owners, and the auctioneer stepped down, many guests began to leave.

Silas blinked in confusion.

Wasn't there still the Unknown Items auction?

Before he could press the service button to ask, another auctioneer stepped onto the stage.

"Next is the auction for Unknown Items. Guests who are interested may stay. Those who are not may proceed downstairs to continue shopping. We wish you a pleasant evening."

Silas understood immediately.

Those who had left were regular customers. They weren't interested in unknown curiosities, so naturally they departed.

This auction had already lasted quite a long time.

Only now did Silas realize he was getting hungry—strange, considering he hadn't felt it while spending money.

"I wonder how long it'll take before the Mysterious Crystal comes up. Hopefully not too long."

He silently prayed.

But he soon realized he was overthinking it.

The auctioneer repeatedly struck the gavel, mechanically announcing:

"Unsold."

Seven or eight items in a row drew no interest.

Even when someone bid, there was no competition.

Though the descriptions were longer, this segment moved faster than any previous one.

Fifteen minutes later, after spending 2 million Poké Dollars to win the Mysterious Crystal, Silas promptly left the auction hall.

He casually tossed it into his space backpack.

He'd show it to Steven Stone next time they met. It wasn't worth contacting him specifically.

Glancing at the night sky outside, Silas grabbed dinner at a restaurant before leaving the Goldenrod Department Store.

Of course, he didn't forget to pick up the "mysterious gift" from the tournament organizer earlier that afternoon.

"Whew, I'm exhausted."

Back in his hotel room, Silas flopped onto the bed and stretched lazily.

One hand rested on the white Pokémon Egg on the bedside table.

Feeling the cool life force emanating from within, he couldn't help but smile.

No matter how many times it happened, the birth of a Pokémon was always exciting.

"Let's see what your senior won today."

He enthusiastically pulled out the so-called mystery prize.

It was a small light-blue box.

"Hm… it kind of looks like you."

He playfully held the box up to the Egg.

The Egg shook slightly.

Inside the box was a square piece of cloth.

Silas raised an eyebrow, recognizing it.

He unfolded it, it was a long strip of fabric.

"So it's a Blue Scarf. Not bad. Worthy of the Goldenrod Department Store's name, I suppose."

Having just spent nearly 200 million Poké Dollars, Silas had become somewhat inflated in confidence. An item worth only a few million barely registered.

Still, he was surprised that Goldenrod would offer a Pokémon hold item as a small tournament prize.

The Blue Scarf was primarily used in Pokémon Contests, which were most popular in Hoenn.

Since the first round of judging focused on performance, appearance mattered greatly.

Accessories such as Seals used on Poké Balls were common on Contest stages.

In Johto and Kanto, however, Trainers rarely used such items.

Though called a Blue Scarf, a skilled Trainer could easily modify it into a neck scarf, a bow, even a tail decoration.

Silas, however, definitely did not possess such craftsmanship.

"When you hatch, you can decide for yourself. If you like it, I'll tie it around your neck. If not, I'll give it to someone else."

The Egg shook more vigorously.

Silas didn't notice.

He was busy pulling out the Protector for Rhydon.

"Blaziken, come out and help."

After testing the weight himself and realizing it was too heavy, Silas chose the obvious solution.

"Blaze."

Blaziken stepped out of its Poké Ball reluctantly.

"Hurry up."

Silas shot it a look.

So what if he'd promised it a break earlier but sent it into battle anyway?

"Help me move this downstairs. I'll give you half a day off tomorrow."

Blaziken's eyes lit up.

It raised one finger.

"One full day? No way. Half a day max. Otherwise I'll have Gigalith move it."

Silas rejected the negotiation instantly.

"Blaze…"

Blaziken sighed and agreed.

Watching it carry the Protector away, Silas smirked.

Still not the sharpest.

Not that Gigalith lacked strength—

The hotel doorway simply wasn't wide enough.

Gigalith's body was too broad.

As for why he hadn't shipped it earlier?

Don't ask.

He forgot.

Click.

The door locked shut.

The Pokémon Egg on the bedside table abruptly stopped shaking.

It seemed to be thinking.

Crack… crack.

A faint sound of something breaking echoed in the room.

At the hotel front desk, Silas registered the shipping and handed over the Protector.

He wasn't worried about losing it. If it got lost, he could just make Whitney compensate him.

The shipping fee, however, wasn't cheap.

Because of the Protector's weight, it had to be transported by Pidgeot, and the distance to Pewter City was considerable.

The cost: 50,000 Poké Dollars.

Still small change.

He sent a message to Forrest explaining the situation, then returned upstairs with Blaziken.

Opening the door, a chill greeted him.

Blaziken shivered uncomfortably.

"Did I set the air conditioner this low? I don't think so…"

Silas muttered as he walked in—

Then froze in shock.

"Vul! Vulpix!"

A small white Pokémon was on the bed, calling loudly at the ceiling.

The other six Pokémon surrounded it.

Ralts floated in the air, circling curiously around the cool new companion.

Sensing a familiar scent, the white little one turned its head.

"Vulpix!"

It leapt toward Silas, But having just been born, it lacked strength.

Barely clearing the edge of the bed, it began to fall.

Ralts panicked, its eyes glowing blue-purple as it prepared to use psychic power—

A pair of hands suddenly stopped it.

Silas had already rushed forward, catching the falling white Pokémon before it hit the ground.

"Vulpix…"

The little white Pokémon had no idea how clumsy that leap had been. It stretched its neck toward Silas and cried out happily.

Its voice was full of joy.

"Welcome to the team, Alolan Vulpix."

Silas smiled and gently patted its head.

The now-empty incubator beside the bed clearly explained where the little one had come from.

Calculating the time, it was about right.

He just hadn't expected the Alolan Vulpix to hatch while he was out. He had assumed it would be sometime around midnight.

The Alolan Vulpix stared straight at Silas with its gradient eyes that shifted from blue to white.

Its large eyes, lacking visible pupils, made it look especially adorable.

Its entire body was an exceptionally bright white, just looking at it made one feel a chill.

Silas reached out to touch the fur on its head.

Though newly hatched, it was already very fluffy.

He gently lifted one ear to check, no issues.

As for the tail, typically, a newborn Vulpix has only a single snow-white tail.

As it grows through its early stage, the tail gradually splits from the tip until it reaches six tails, with its color changing accordingly.

That was the origin of its name.

However, Alolan Vulpix differs from the standard Fire-type Vulpix.

Its tail and head fur resemble each other in development.

A mature Kantonian Vulpix has curled orange fur on its head and tails, with clearly defined separations between each curl.

But the Alolan Vulpix from the Alola region has head fur and tails that resemble soft clouds, much fluffier and less distinctly separated.

According to the images Silas had previously seen, once it matured, its tails would look like enlarged, fluffy dumplings.

"Vee…"

The Alolan Vulpix squirmed slightly, unaccustomed to Silas examining it all over.

"Alright, very healthy."

Silas grinned and lifted it gently by its two front legs.

It was worth noting that Alolan Vulpix's four legs were a pale icy blue, distinct from its white torso. They felt soft and cool to the touch.

Dangling in the air, its hind legs kicked helplessly.

It didn't seem particularly bright.

"Come on, let me introduce you to your seniors. Say hello."

Holding the confused Alolan Vulpix, Silas carried it around in front of his other Pokémon.

It resembled the scene of introducing one's slightly clueless child to relatives during a holiday gathering.

The Pokémon all responded with friendly cries.

Except when they reached Blaziken.

Disliking high temperatures, the Alolan Vulpix instinctively released a burst of cold air toward Blaziken.

Once it passed its infancy stage, that likely wouldn't be mere cold air, it would be ice crystals or freezing breath.

"And why are you arguing with a baby?"

Blaziken had just been about to teach this overconfident hatchling a lesson when Silas shut it down immediately.

A Pokémon on the verge of breaking into Elite-level strength, and it was picking a fight with a newborn?

It wasn't like the hatchling could even hurt it.

"Blaze…"

Blaziken grumbled indignantly.

Who wasn't a baby once?

It had only just turned one year old not long ago, after all.
