"Let's go," Silas said to Ampharos, who had finally lost interest in digging around.
Ampharos nodded repeatedly.
Half a minute later—
Splash!
A figure suddenly burst out from behind the waterfall, scattering water everywhere.
Just as that figure was about to fall from the highest point, Togekiss flew in smoothly from below and caught him.
"Togekiss–togekiss!"
Togekiss chirped proudly, showing off its achievement.
"Nice work."
Silas smiled and patted the little guy's back.
Nearby, the coiled Serperior uncurled its long body, watching its Trainer by the waterfall.
Togekiss soon landed on the riverbank and gently set Silas down.
"Good work, all of you."
Silas nodded toward the two Pokémon.
Then his eyes shifted toward another treasure-bearing spot—the living grounds of the Zubat colony.
This was why being a Trainer was considered a high-investment but high-return profession.
For tasks like this, as long as the Trainer completed the objective, everything acquired during the mission belonged to them.
Often, the task's reward wasn't where the real money came from, it was the valuables picked up while doing the task.
Of course, Pokémon themselves being untradeable—didn't count.
Even the Poké Balls he used to capture those Pokémon earlier were supplied by the Enda Group.
In essence, those Pokémon now counted as employees of the Enda Group.
Spending several million to acquire two quasi-Elite-level Pokémon…
You might think you've earned big, but corporations like these never lose money.
Silas carefully pulled out a gas mask from his space backpack and put it on.
Partly to avoid poisoning, partly because he did not expect the living conditions of wild Pokémon to be hygienic.
Ten minutes later, Silas walked back out—empty-handed.
Mushrooms, seashells, feathers, marbles, springs…
He truly had no idea why the Zubat were interested in useless junk like this.
Couldn't they gather items that were actually valuable or helpful?
Still, it wasn't a complete waste—
just nothing that was useful to him.
"Let's go, time to head back."
Silas called out to Serperior and Togekiss, who were playing nearby.
After getting their approval, he returned them to their Poké Balls.
Footsteps slowly faded down the empty cave.
A Pokémon covered entirely in white fur silently appeared by the riverside.
The scythe-shaped horn on the right side of its head blended perfectly into the surrounding darkness.
Its fierce red eyes followed Silas's departing figure, this Absol had not been noticed by him at all.
Silas, now approaching the exit, had no idea a Pokémon had arrived at the very place where he had just battled.
He could already see the bright sunlight shining from outside the cave.
"Piiiii!"
A sharp, resonant cry echoed through the forest.
Pidgeot was the first to spot Silas.
Hearing Pidgeot's alarm call, the project supervisor and the security captain assumed something urgent had happened and rushed out from the camp.
When they saw Silas, a look of disbelief appeared on their faces.
"Sir, did you… forget something?"
the supervisor asked cautiously.
They couldn't help asking
The battle and exploration felt long, but in reality, Silas had been inside for just over an hour.
No normal person would expect everything to be completed that fast.
"No. It's done."
Silas simply replied and handed over a bag full of Poké Balls.
"I've marked the two containing the quasi–Elite class Pokémon. You can check them."
The supervisor accepted the bag stiffly, unable to believe it.
But Pokémon couldn't be faked.
Silas hadn't known what lived inside beforehand, so he couldn't have prepared powerful Pokémon in advance to fool them.
"Please wait a moment, I'll go verify them."
The supervisor suddenly realized Silas was far stronger than he had assumed.
His attitude immediately became more respectful.
Silas nodded casually.
Just as the supervisor turned to leave, Silas spoke again:
"Right, I also found an egg inside. Probably a Zubat egg.
According to the rules, this belongs to you as well."
He took out a Pokémon Egg with deep blue and light purple patterns interwoven across its shell.
He had found it earlier in the Zubat living area.
If this were in the past, he would've kept it and sold it on the black market for quick cash.
But now, he had absolutely no reason to do that.
Of course, the main reason was that Zero's scan showed the egg only had Advance-rank potential.
If it had been Elite or Champion-rank, he'd absolutely have kept it himself—Crobat was extremely strong, after all.
The supervisor gestured for the security captain to take the egg, and Silas casually placed it into the man's arms.
"In that case, I'll wait here for your confirmation."
Silas said this while walking toward the tree where Pidgeot was perched.
"Understood. Thank you again for your hard work. Please wait just a moment."
Ignoring the words behind him, Silas sat down under the shade of the large tree, leaning his back against its trunk.
Pidgeot's enormous body blocked the sunlight completely, and the comfortable breeze made Silas squint his eyes in relaxation.
Soon, the project supervisor returned.
"Sir Silas, the mission payment has already been deposited into your account.
Please take a look."
Upon hearing that, the previously drowsy Silas immediately opened his eyes and checked his wrist device.
Sure enough—the money had arrived.
It was even 500,000 more than what was originally agreed upon.
"This is an additional bonus from the company headquarters, in recognition of how quickly you completed the mission."
Seeing Silas's slightly confused expression, the supervisor explained patiently.
As expected of a major corporation… Silas quietly sighed in admiration, then smiled.
"Thank you. If there's nothing else, I'll be heading out."
He had earned it.
The time he saved would likely help the Enda Group avoid spending several more amounts of 500,000.
"You've worked hard."
The supervisor bowed again.
As for the fact that this remote wilderness was extremely far from the nearest city and it was already getting late, the supervisor wasn't blind.
The Pidgeot perched in the tree was clearly visible to him.
Silas whistled.
A powerful gust suddenly swept through the small forest as Pidgeot beat its wings and descended.
With practiced ease, Silas swung up onto its back.
"See you again if fate allows."
He said politely.
Hopefully their next meeting would be the same as this one with money involved.
The next moment, Pidgeot soared upward, carrying Silas into the sky.
Starting a trip in a new region by making money really did feel wonderful.
Silas's eyes squinted into narrow lines—
whether from the strong wind or from his smile was hard to say.
"Johto really is an amazing place~"
