Chapter 248 - Chapter 248: Victory, Victory, Victory; Evolution, Evolution, Evolution

"You really are one lucky little guy."

Walking out of the preliminaries arena once again, Silas gently rubbed the small head of the Togetic floating beside him.

Just moments ago, he had finished his fifth preliminary battle in the past half month, and the Pokémon that competed was this little one at his side.

Naturally, the result was another expected victory.

Overall, everything was going smoothly — he was already halfway toward successfully entering the main tournament.

His mindset was calm; the worries he'd had at the beginning were long gone.

Nothing major had happened over these two weeks.

Every day, aside from keeping up training and regularly organizing data on several competitors, Silas mostly spent his time following the schedule — participating in prelims, chatting with friends, playing cards, and doing various activities for fun.

In fact, it wasn't even as free and relaxed as when he was traveling.

The Pokémon his opponents used in these five matches were all of ordinary strength. Silas almost felt like he was battling roadside trainers rather than participants of a major tournament.

After all, anyone who could qualify for the conference had to be capable enough to win eight official Gym Badges.

And those who graduated from Pokémon Research Academies wouldn't be weak either otherwise, they wouldn't graduate at all.

So, encountering five ordinary-level opponents in a row was only slightly more likely than encountering five quasi-Elite-level ones in a row.

That must be thanks to Togetic's maxed-out Luck stat — Silas had complete faith in his Pokémon, since all five match draws had been handled by Togetic.

"Who should go next… maybe Pidgeot, huh~"

On his way back, Silas happily decided which Pokémon would take the stage next.

It might not be very fair to the opponent though having a quasi-Elite-level Pokémon fight an ordinary-level one was like Pikachu taking on a brand-new starter.

It would be "a piece of cake."

Thanks to Togetic's lucky draws, after using Blaziken in the first match, Silas had used Leafeon, Serperior, Ampharos, and Togetic in the following four.

That's right — even before the third preliminary match, Flaaffy had broken through to Advance level, reaching level 30 and evolving naturally into Ampharos.

Now, it had reached level 34. Silas estimated that by the time they reached the main arena, its level would start with a 4 — already an impressively strong stage.

The only minor regret was that, after using a high-quality Thunder Stone during its evolution, Ampharos's potential hadn't increased further.

It remained within the Elite-tier aptitude.

However, even among Elites there were differences. After evolution, Ampharos's previously weak physical constitution was somewhat improved, and its originally outstanding energy affinity was strengthened even further.

Based on comparisons to Servine's data at the same period, Silas felt that Ampharos wasn't far behind — meaning it was only one step away from pseudo-Champion aptitude.

That high-quality Thunder Stone had clearly played its part and hadn't been wasted.

The shiny Ampharos's skin color had changed from yellow to the light pink it had always maintained since birth, while the spheres on its tail and forehead had turned from red to blue.

Aside from that, the white abdomen, striped neck and ears, and the yellow-and-black pattern on parts of its tail were identical to a normal Ampharos.

And on the day Ampharos evolved, Silas once again suffered an "attack of love" from Togetic.

He subconsciously touched his abdomen, feeling his eight-pack abs.

Luckily, his body was tough and Togetic had only been playing around.

Even so, it hurt for quite a while.

There was no helping it. Though Ampharos inherited the genes of its pre-evolutions, it lacked one thing — the thick wool it had as a Mareep, and even the little fluff remaining from its Flaaffy stage was gone.

To put it figuratively, it was like a young man suddenly becoming middle-aged.

"Mareep doesn't shed any wool," Togetic said, finding Silas's remark extremely amusing.

But Togetic quickly forgot about it — as long as it didn't go bald itself, it was fine. It even teased Ampharos about it quite a bit.

Ampharos, however, didn't mind at all. "What do those flighty Pokémon in the sky know about the might of Electric types?" it thought. "Once I catch up to your level, I'll Thunderbolt you until you forget which way is north!"

"Togetic"

Togetic hummed lightly, drifting through the air on the wind. Having just won, it was in an excellent mood.

"Hey, little guy, how about evolving when we get back?"

Silas suddenly spoke to the Togetic humming beside him.

It was about time, after all.

It had been nearly two months since Togetic's last evolution. It had mastered flight techniques with great talent — performing maneuvers freely. The only difference between it and its teacher, Pidgeot, was experience.

Not to mention, its current level was already 42 — higher than many Pokémon's usual final-evolution levels by six or seven.

There was no worry about "rushing" evolution.

"Togetic?"

Togetic tilted its head at his words, then nodded slightly.

It didn't have any particular ambitions about evolving, but since its Trainer said so, it would.

He would never do anything to harm it anyway.

Thinking back to its aunts and uncles from the clan, Togetic felt its future self would surely look impressive too.

"Togetic"

Floating midair, Togetic called out cheerfully, then dove straight into Silas's arms below.

"Whoa, easy there!"

Silas staggered, his left leg stepping back as he instinctively shifted to absorb the impact.

Togetic didn't seem heavy just over 4 kilograms but the momentum combined with its strange body physics was something you had to feel to understand.

If something like a Gigalith charged into you, that would be fatal even someone like Bruno wouldn't want to take that head-on.

Holding Togetic in his arms, Silas walked back to his room at an easy pace.

What's the rush? The Shiny Stone was already prepared all he had to do was let Togetic touch it to evolve. It wasn't his first time, after all.

"Hey, I won't be joining the group activity today got something to do."

He freed a hand to call Yezo.

"Well, aren't you guys just a flock of Pidove?" Yezo said helplessly.

"Pidove," a Unovan Pokémon known as the Tiny Pigeon Pokémon, was famous for its forgetfulness — it looked smart but couldn't handle complex Trainer commands, and often forgot even recent orders.

Among Trainers, the term was also used jokingly to describe members who skipped group events for random reasons — with no ill intent.

From the sound of it, several other friends had also told Yezo they weren't coming.

"Guess you're not too popular then — no one wants to go," Silas teased.

Their group rotated daily entertainment plans today one person picked an activity, tomorrow another and they'd had plenty of fun.

Yezo rolled his eyes, hung up, and clearly didn't want to talk anymore.

Silas didn't mind the dial tone. He could easily imagine Yezo's face right now.

It was no big deal — Trainers were like that.

Even though they called it "group fun," in half a month, the whole crew had only shown up together maybe two or three times.

Usually, one or two people were missing.

It was just surprising that everyone had plans this time — no one expected that.

Still, knowing Yezo, he'd be grumpy for a few minutes, then play on his own again.

"Alright, come on — evolve, evolve, evolve!"

Back in his room, Silas excitedly released his other five Pokémon to watch, and pulled out a high-quality Shiny Stone from his bag.

"Amph~"

Ampharos sighed unconsciously. When would it finally get the chance to zap Togetic once?

Evolution would raise Togetic's level, so Ampharos figured it'd be a long while before it could catch up.

"Serperior"

Serperior quietly slithered beside Ampharos, whispering something.

Ampharos's expression suddenly shifted in realization, and the two started talking enthusiastically.

Blaziken curiously tapped the Shiny Stone with its claw.

It hadn't seen many evolutionary stones before nor used one.

It felt cool to the touch. After a moment of sensing it, Blaziken gave its evaluation.

The nearly transparent, radiant-white Shiny Stone was indeed beautiful though, being a rock, it wasn't warm like a Fire Stone. Few stones were, aside from those with fire-type minerals.

After Blaziken finished inspecting it, Togetic lazily reached out its two tiny hands to touch it.

In an instant, white light of evolution engulfed its entire body.

"Wow… Pokémon that evolve with stones really are different," Silas murmured in awe.

This was the first time he had ever used an evolutionary stone in the proper way — placing it on the Pokémon.

In previous cases, the stones were absorbed mid-evolution, and the light had only spread slowly.

Now it expanded rapidly growing, growing, growing.

The white light kept swelling outward, and Silas and the other Pokémon stepped back gradually.

"Pidgeot~"

Pidgeot craned its head curiously this little guy's evolution seemed massive!

It looked like its body was almost as big as its own.

Beside it, Gigalith rotated its rocky body silently, watching intently.

Under the gaze of one human and five Pokémon, the light of evolution slowly faded.

A Pokémon much larger than Togetic appeared before them nearly as big as Pidgeot, just a bit smaller.

"Togekiss"

The voice was nearly the same, though now it carried a trace of calmness.

"Easy, easy!"

This time, Silas wasn't flustered — he was almost crushed to death.

The newly evolved Togekiss's eyes squinted happily into crescents as it pressed Silas beneath its body, ignoring his struggle.

It took every bit of Silas's strength to convince it to let him go.

Sure enough, that "calm demeanor" was just an illusion brought by physical changes it hadn't affected its personality one bit.

A blue light screen unfolded.

[Togekiss]

Category: Jubilee Pokémon

Type: Normal (Fairy) + Flying

Height: 1.65 m (average 1.5 m)

Weight: 45 kg (average 38 kg)

Ability: Serene Grace (omitted)

Hidden Ability: Super Luck (omitted)

Moves (newly learned): Tri Attack, Air Slash, Aura Sphere, Double-Edge, Safeguard, Fly, Steel Wing, Mystical Fire, Psychic, Ally Switch, Nasty Plot, Body Slam, Flamethrower, Draining Kiss, Play Rough.

Level: 44 (Advance Tier)

Potential: Near-Champion Level

Training Plan:

Togekiss is capable of learning an extremely wide variety of offensive and status moves, especially those based on flying and wind.

It soars gracefully into the sky, performing aerial maneuvers and elegant acrobatics as part of its standard battle style.

(Upgraded training plan includes: Sprinting and U-turn practice.)

With adjustments made to the ancient Togepi dietary formula, data shows that Togekiss's Psychic aptitude has been slightly stimulated. The content of Wiki Berries (which slightly enhance psychic and mental strength) can be further increased.

Replacing Lum Berries (which affect Normal-type potential) with Roseli Berries (which enhance Fairy-type potential) has been confirmed feasible. Fairy-type affinity appears to have improved.

(New mixed Pokéblock formulation for three-berry blend is hypothesized as follows:)

Togekiss belongs to an avian-like species.

Its egg-shaped body is covered in soft, white fur.

Just like its previous evolutions, it has the characteristic red and blue triangular markings on its lower body — the emblem of the Togepi family line.

The spike on its head has unfolded into a three-pronged crest — the center white, while the left and right tips are colored red and blue respectively.

"Togekiss?"

Togekiss let out a curious cry, trying to stand on the floor but with some difficulty.

Its two small feet were both too tiny and too close together, unlike avian Pokémon such as Pidgeot.

Because of this, it found walking on land quite hard.

"Toge."

Rolling its small eyes slightly, Togekiss felt the buoyancy from its triangular wings, and quite naturally, it shot upward toward the ceiling.

If it weren't for the ceiling blocking its way, it probably would've flown straight up into the sky in an instant.

That was one of the key structural traits of its body.

After realizing how effortlessly it could float midair, Togekiss, who had learned laziness from Pidgeot, immediately gave up on walking on the ground. That was just too tiring for a Pokémon like it.

Back in its Togetic stage, things were manageable — but after evolving, movement on the ground became a true hassle.

Silas chuckled and shook his head.

Its personality was still that of a mischievous child. Evolution hadn't changed that at all.

He actually liked it this way.

After evolution, Togekiss's classification had changed — from the "Happiness Pokémon" to the "Jubilee Pokémon."

That alone was proof of its transformation: previously, it passively brought happiness; now, it actively spread joy.

You could say its power had skyrocketed.

In terms of body size and proportions, the evolved Togekiss was roughly seven to eight times larger than its former Togetic form

especially in width, which was dramatically increased, practically making it two Pokémon wide.

Togekiss instinctively lowered its body again, pressing lightly against Silas.

Its senses told it that Silas was thinking something… not very nice.
