Chapter 213 - Chapter 213: Fishing? This Is Justice

Silas had encountered poachers with guns before and they were extremely dangerous.

His left hand unconsciously touched a shallow scar on his right arm.

"Pidgeot~"

A distant Pidgeot cried out, startling the poacher hiding in the forest.

Seeing it fly farther and farther away, He finally let out a sigh of relief. He thought it really was bait just now.

He signaled to one of his Pokémon.

"Aaaaarbok~"

With a deep, sinister hiss, an Arbok with a terrifying scar over its left eye nodded. It slithered silently along the ground and disappeared into the trees at the side.

Meanwhile, the poacher held a magnified Poké Ball tightly in his hand, sneaking step by step toward Silas's unguarded back.

Closer, closer, and closer.

Cruel delight flashed in his eyes as he suddenly hurled the Poké Ball.

"Fearow, Drill Peck!"

"Gigalith, Smack Down."

Almost at the exact same time, Silas's calm voice rang out.

A Fearow appeared in midair with a flash of red light. It spun its body like a steel drill, aiming to pierce straight into Silas.

The poacher planned to kill Silas in one strike, then take his Pokémon.

Unfortunately, Silas was already prepared.

From between his left fingers, a Luxury Ball expanded in an instant.

A towering Gigalith materialized behind him, directly facing the diving Fearow.

The move Smack Down a Rock-type attack — wasn't particularly powerful, but it had one very special effect:

As its name suggested, it forced Flying Pokémon to the ground.

In a blink, Gigalith condensed massive stones and hurled them with force at the spinning Fearow.

"Boom!"

The sound of flesh and feathers crashing against rock echoed, sending the surrounding wild Pokémon scattering in terror.

None of them wanted to "watch the show."

In the wild, being a spectator often came with the price of your life.

"What?!" The poacher was dumbfounded, blurting out without meaning to.

But it wasn't over yet.

As the Fearow was knocked down, Silas remained perfectly still.

"Pidgeot, Brave Bird!"

The poacher's pupils contracted as he looked up.

High above, the same Pidgeot he thought had flown away earlier tucked in its wings, its entire body glowing with a red-and-white aura of power. It dove down at incredible speed.

Fearow was still sprawled on the ground. Before the poacher could shout an order to dodge, Pidgeot slammed into it with full force.

"Boom!!"

The explosion was even louder, shaking the earth itself and nearly knocking the poacher off his feet.

Dust filled the air, obscuring Fearow's body.

"Mareep, Thunder Shock! Servine, Vine Whip!"

Silas's lazy voice rang out again.

The poacher felt his body jolt with electricity before vines coiled tightly around him, binding him on the spot.

"Pidgeot!" "Fearow~!"

Two great birds soared into the sky.

One of them — aside from some ruffled feathers and a little discomfort from recoil — was completely fine. This was Silas's Pidgeot.

The other was in tatters, its four brown tail feathers missing half their plumes. It was panting heavily, clearly the battered Fearow.

"Tch. Seriously? You don't have anything good on you?"

With the bird battle as background or more accurately, Fearow's one-sided thrashing — Silas searched the poacher's body.

In the end, he only found two anonymous bank cards, two Poké Balls, and a bunch of useless junk.

Clicking his tongue, Silas stuffed the junk back into his backpack.

"So much effort for this…"

The poacher stammered, "Y-y-you…" but couldn't form the rest of the sentence.

"What 'me'?!" Silas snapped, pocketing the cards.

According to League regulations, all spoils obtained after subduing poachers belonged to the trainer. Only the poacher himself had to be handed over.

This policy had greatly encouraged trainers to "hunt" poachers.

After all, many poachers had considerable savings.

Plenty of bounty hunters made careers out of targeting them. Ruthless people, every last one.

"You were baiting me! Shameless!"

The poacher almost cried. Who pretended to be a rookie this thoroughly?

And then pulled out not one, but at least two Pokémon of Quasi Elite-level strength? He himself barely had two Pokémon in total.

And why did everything feel so set up?

"Hm? How is this baiting?" Silas argued self-righteously. "This is called justice. Got it?"

The poacher's heart sank into despair. Call it what you want — to him, it was still baiting.

As for his Arbok, he didn't hold out much hope.

If Silas was really setting a trap, then every move had already been anticipated.

Most likely, everything he did was under Silas's watchful eye from the start.

"Blaziken."

From the blind spot in the poacher's field of vision, a Blaziken stepped out.

In its right hand, it dragged a long, purple tail patterned with thin black stripes.

Looking further back, the Arbok lay there, its eyes swirling in dizziness, completely unable to battle.

With a flick of its arm, Blaziken tossed the unconscious Arbok onto the ground beside them.

As for whether the Arbok might be faking and suddenly strike again — well, that depended on Blaziken's aura sensing. At least Silas trusted it.

And if worst came to worst, there was still Gigalith's Gravity move, which he hadn't canceled yet.

Not that the poacher would know that.

"Forget it. It's not getting back up."

Silas's merciless words crushed the last hope in the poacher's eyes.

Meanwhile, Pidgeot had finished its battle. It returned with its talons firmly gripping the battered Fearow.

"Pidgeot!"

Pidgeot let out an angry cry. To be looked down on, then have its opponent try to run after losing and even its trainer restrained?

Before Pidgeot, that was unacceptable.

With a few quick strikes, it had subdued Fearow completely.

Silas, unsurprised, held up the poacher's two Poké Balls and recalled both Pokémon before locking them shut.

These poachers' Pokémon were most likely bought or stolen.

Otherwise, a Pokémon raised from childhood would never abandon its trainer so readily.

At the very least, it would burn with fighting spirit to protect them.

"Let's see here, what do we have…" Silas leaned against Gigalith's rocky body as he sorted through his spoils.

He opened a notebook.

"…Oh wow. You really have this kind of hobby? Personally handing over the evidence?"

Silas muttered in disbelief.

Inside was a ledger listing all the species the poacher had sold, complete with prices.

"Well, damn. Straight to prison with you." Silas nodded. "Do all poachers have this habit?"

He really couldn't understand. If every poacher kept such records, Officer Jenny and the League would have a much easier job.

Investigations wouldn't even be necessary.

"I get it now — villains love recording their so-called achievements." Silas casually stuffed the notebook in and gagged the poacher before he could speak.

If only all villains were as stupidly cooperative as this guy.

Pulling on a Vine Whip, Silas dragged the man toward the exit of Viridian Forest.

He still hadn't finished his side quest of collecting bulrush stalks. The stuff was annoyingly hard to find. But he wasn't about to drag dead weight around Viridian Forest at night.

Looked like he'd have to return tomorrow afternoon.

"Argh, I swear I'm never accepting these stupid collection quests again…" Silas groaned up at the sky.

"Blaziken, stop plucking your feathers — they'll molt on their own. Don't worry.

"Togepi, I said you don't need to fuss about your head-crest. And stop tugging at my clothes.

"Mareep, give our friend here a few more Thunder Shocks. Don't let him recover."

All the way, his nagging voice carried through the forest.

At the entrance to Viridian City.

Dragging the poacher, Silas now had only his shoulder-perched Servine and the ever-present Blaziken by his side.

"Well, Silas, caught another poacher, huh?"

Officer Jenny, already alerted by Silas, greeted him with a big smile.

Even if she hadn't lifted a finger, Silas was a Viridian native and his captures counted toward the precinct's performance.

"Yeah, yeah. These poachers are just terrible."

Silas nodded as he handed her the end of Servine's Vine Whip.

Jenny expertly tossed the poacher into the back seat. "Tell me, why do you keep running into poachers?

"This is the sixth one you've brought in this month! Most people are lucky to get one."

Her expression twisted in confusion.

"How should I know? Maybe my luck's good for missions, but bad in this department."

Silas widened his eyes innocently and shrugged.

"Doesn't make sense. Servine and Blaziken aren't even the types poachers usually target." Jenny muttered as she started the vehicle.

"By the way, the bounty for the one you caught last week should hit your account today. Don't forget to check.

"And try not to overdo it, okay? You're draining our budget, we can't even get approvals from HQ fast enough."

Jenny fastened her helmet, gave Silas a parting warning, and sped off.

"Like that's under my control~"

Silas's reply echoed after her.

Jenny raised her little finger behind her back, mocking him. Did he think she was an idiot?

No way he wasn't deliberately attracting poachers. Otherwise, why did they line up for him like this?

Humming a tune, Silas strolled into Viridian City with Blaziken and Servine.

At the Pokémon Center.

"Jun, I'll leave them to you~"

Silas handed over all six of his Luxury Balls to a familiar face on duty.

"You're back, huh? Go wait over there."

Nurse Jun was as brusque as always, taking the Poké Balls inside.

"Uyu~"

In the lounge area, a group of trainers whistled at Silas, beckoning him over.

"So, how'd it go? Did you finish the quest?" one asked eagerly.

Silas gave him a strange look and replied honestly:

"Ran into some trouble, didn't finish. I'll probably have to go back tomorrow. Luckily—"

Before he could finish, the man cheered:

"Pay up, pay up! I told you his luck would run out!"

Silas's face went dark with exasperation.

"Seriously? What's with you guys…"

"Oh man, I can't believe you actually lost the bet."

"My god, he finally guessed right for once!"

Around them, every single trainer started pulling out money to settle their bets.
