There were so many of them. Silas stared at the massive parade of Bulbasaur in front of him.
How much would all this be worth?
That was the first thought that popped into his head.
Right after that, he realized something was off. Wait a second—wasn't this the legendary festival?
Silas's eyes suddenly widened.
At the same time, Pidgeot and the others did not lower their guard—if anything, they became even more tense.
While their strength was far greater than that of these Bulbasaur, the difference in numbers was simply overwhelming.
With a quick estimate, Silas counted at least over a hundred Bulbasaur just from what they could see.
"Bul ba~" "Bul ba~ saur~"
However, group after group of neatly marching Bulbasaur passed right by Silas and his Pokémon, not even sparing them a glance, and walked straight toward the deeper part of the area.
Silas watched the last Bulbasaur disappear into the depths, and the vine wall behind them sealed itself back up.
He glanced back and forth a few times before making a bold decision.
"Let's go. Follow them."
Recalling the larger Pidgeot and Gigalith into their Poké Balls, Silas gestured for the remaining three Pokémon to join him in trailing the Bulbasaur deeper inside.
Just like before, the Bulbasaur in front didn't care at all that they were being followed—never even looking back at them once.
After who knows how long, they passed through a stretch of forest and arrived at an open grassy field. Here, the Bulbasaur began to scatter into smaller groups.
Silas and Blaziken hid behind the massive trunk of a thick tree.
Thankfully, the trees here were much larger than those outside, large enough to conceal both of them completely.
Carefully, Silas peeked out from behind the trunk and looked toward the center of the field.
There stood an unbelievably huge, dead-looking tree—not lush with leaves like a normal giant tree, but bare and withered.
From the trunk upward, four enormous branches stretched out on each side. Its thick trunk and tangled root system sprawled across the entire field.
But what caught Silas's attention the most was what lay beneath that tree—a gigantic Venusaur.
"Whoa… it's huge," Silas thought to himself.
Normally, a Venusaur stood about two meters tall and weighed around 100 kilograms—already taking up a considerable amount of space given its bulk.
But this Venusaur was even larger than that. According to Zero's calculations, it stood a full 3.2 meters tall and weighed around 160 kilograms.
Its strength was also displayed oddly on Zero's status panel: Elite Champion (???)
Silas couldn't quite figure out what the question marks meant in the parentheses.
Still, even just "Elite Champion" strength was already absurd.
If the Pokémon League knew there was such a powerful Pokémon living this close to a city, they'd be up in arms. If this thing ever went on a rampage, Verdanturf City wouldn't stand a chance against the damage.
Right now, the Venusaur was resting quietly with its eyes closed.
It had certainly sensed Silas and his Pokémon, but for some reason, it continued to ignore them.
"Vee naa~"
Time passed, and Venusaur slowly opened its heavy eyelids. It let out a deep call and rose to its feet.
Its massive body and booming voice drew the attention of every Pokémon present. All the Bulbasaur began calling out together, as if in response to it.
Venusaur took a deep breath and hopped up onto a huge wooden stump in front of it.
It opened its mouth wide and let out another resonant cry. The enormous petals on its back suddenly scattered a cloud of pollen, which drifted down to the ground. Instantly, the grass seemed to burst with new life, shooting up taller than before.
Flowers began to sprout from the soil one after another.
In moments, the entire field looked like it was overflowing with vitality.
Grassy Terrain? Silas thought, basing the guess on his experience with Snivy's moves.
"Bul ba~" "Bul ba~"Bulbasaur~"
All around, the Bulbasaur gazing up at Venusaur began to cry out again. As the pollen touched them, their bodies started to glow with the white light of evolution.
Silas immediately scrapped his earlier guess. If Grassy Terrain could actually do this, he'd eat his own hat while standing on his head.
What he was witnessing completely defied everything he'd learned before.
Within his field of vision, these Bulbasaur were still several levels away from their normal evolution threshold. But as the pollen spread, their levels seemed to skyrocket in seconds, triggering evolution.
"Snivy!"
Snivy's startled cry snapped Silas out of his shock.
It too was starting to glow with the light of evolution.
"This…" Silas was caught completely off guard.
Could Venusaur's pollen actually work on Snivy too?
There was no time to ponder. Silas quickly pulled from his space backpack the high-quality Leaf Stone (Grade 95) that the Safari Zone staff had compensated him with earlier, tossing it into Snivy's evolving light.
Thankfully, back when Professor Oak had attended a banquet with him, he had brought these items along as a gift.
Silas watched intently as Snivy's form began to change within the white glow, a faint bead of sweat forming on his forehead.
The suddenness of this evolution had him feeling uneasy. Even though it didn't seem harmful, it still worried him.
Thunk.
The white light faded. The newly evolved Servine lifted its head and let out a soft cry.
Its voice was even clearer and more pleasant than before, like it had changed from the voice of a young child to that of a graceful teenage girl.
"Are you alright? Do you feel any discomfort?" Silas asked nervously.
Servine gracefully shook its head, indicating it felt fine — in fact, it felt very comfortable.
Togepi slightly opened its tiny mouth in surprise. Its little companion had grown up!
"To-ge-pi~"
It called softly to Servine.
"Ser~"
Servine narrowed its eyes with a smile and responded warmly.
Togepi patted its little chest with its stubby arms. That had scared it quite a bit.
It was no wonder — due to their species' natural expression, to outsiders, Servine always looked like it was smirking with an air of disdain, making it seem hard to approach.
But in reality, aside from a rare few individuals, most Servine were actually quite friendly toward their companions.
After evolving, Servine didn't look drastically different from Snivy. Physically, its height had increased from 0.65 meters to 0.9 meters, and its weight from 8.5 kilograms to 18 kilograms.
In appearance, it now had two additional leaves on its back, and the yellow, lily-like petal structures around its neck from its Snivy stage had changed into a V-shaped collar-like structure, making the Pokémon look even more elegant and noble.
"Venu~!"
Venusaur's loud cry interrupted Silas just as he was about to open Zero's panel to check Servine's status.
He poked his head out again.
"What the—?!" Silas couldn't hold back his shock, blurting out the exclamation.
The regular Venusaur from before was gone — in its place stood an even larger figure.
Silas immediately recognized it — this was a Mega Venusaur, its form after Mega Evolution.
The flower on its back was even larger, its legs thicker and stronger, and the trunk supporting the flower had grown taller. From the point where the trunk and body connected, four enormous banana-like leaves now extended in the four cardinal directions, supported by vines.
But unlike the Mega Venusaur in Silas's memory, this one's six-petaled flower on its forehead wasn't pink — it was rainbow-colored. The small diamond shape and two triangular marks below it had also changed from dark green to white.
Come to think of it… could Pokémon Mega Evolve on their own without a Trainer? Silas wasn't sure.
After all, in his previous life, he hadn't learned much about this. In this world, Mega Evolution hadn't even appeared yet, so the principles behind it were still unclear to him.
It was also possible this Venusaur was a very special individual.
With its sudden Mega Evolution, the speed and success rate of the Bulbasaur evolving into Ivysaur increased dramatically.
In no time, the field that had once been full of Bulbasaur was now entirely populated by the larger Ivysaur.
Silas swallowed hard. Even though he knew this group of Ivysaur probably wouldn't bother him, the sight was still enough to intimidate anyone.
"Venu!"
At Mega Venusaur's command, the Ivysaur lowered themselves to the ground as if showing respect, then lined up in orderly rows and began walking out, one after another.
Then, Mega Venusaur turned its gaze toward the tree where Silas and his group were hiding. It extended a vine and beckoned.
After a moment of silence, Silas stepped out with his three Pokémon.
The meaning was obvious and it didn't seem to have any hostile intent.
Mega Venusaur stared at the man and his three Pokémon in front of it, its drooping eyelids making it appear slightly lethargic.
There was a long silence.
Neither Mega Venusaur nor Silas's group dared to make any sudden moves, fearing the other might interpret it as a threat.
Plop.
Suddenly, from the flower on Mega Venusaur's back, a small yellow seed — small compared to its huge body — appeared and fell to the ground.
Mega Venusaur, with the delicacy of a giant handling a tiny object, used its massive vine to pick up the seed and hold it out to Silas.
"For me?" Silas asked, though it was an obvious question.
Mega Venusaur nodded, and as Silas held out his hands, it loosened its vine. The yellow seed landed gently in his palms.
"Venusaur!" it called again.
Silas gave a slight bow in thanks. He understood this was also a signal to leave. Without saying more, and still full of questions, he departed with his Pokémon.
As their figures vanished from sight, Venusaur reverted from its Mega form and returned to its spot beneath the withered giant tree, lying down once again.
When the moon rose to its highest point, the withered tree suddenly began to radiate a rainbow-white glow.
The light fell upon Venusaur, as if relaxing it further.
If one listened carefully, it almost sounded as if there were whispers drifting in the air.
Meanwhile, Silas, standing before the wall of vines, scratched his head. The problem was in front of him again — how was he supposed to get out? It was still nighttime.
By his estimation, they probably couldn't leave until morning.
But as he thought this, the vine wall began to retreat into the ground, just as it had when they had first entered.
Silas glanced back toward the depths of the garden, it must have been that Venusaur controlling it. Without hesitation, he led his Pokémon out.
