Blood and Smoke

The Black Lantern is collapsing. Gerard and his team face off against a cybernetic horror while the facility burns around them. Meanwhile, Madam Wei's dinner begins, and every word, every movement is a battle of control. And as Wei Meiying's investigation continues, the web of deception tightens. But unknown forces have started moving—the real enemy is watching.

23:28 – The Black Lantern – Boss Battle Begins

The massive prototype unit stepped forward, its metal-plated limbs glinting under the flickering emergency lights.

Its eyes glowed a deep crimson, scanning the room like a predator assessing its prey.

Jian exhaled. "Well. That's horrifying."

The assassin smirked. "I've seen worse."

Gerard's grip on his pistol tightened.

The Prototype moved.

Fast.

It lunged forward, its enhanced limbs shattering the ground beneath it.

Gerard dodged right, rolling into a crouch as the creature's fist cratered the concrete where he'd just stood.

Jian opened fire, his shots sparking off the reinforced plating.

No damage.

The assassin vanished into the shadows, flanking wide.

Gerard's Tactical Vision activated, scanning the Prototype.

[Weak Points Identified: Neck Joints, Spinal Port, Right Knee Servos.]

His smirk was razor-sharp.

"Hit the joints. Slow it down."

Jian growled. "Yeah? Tell it to hold still!"

The Prototype swung again, a metal-clad arm ripping through a nearby vehicle like paper.

Gerard ducked, his movements precise, calculated.

Then—

He fired.

A perfect shot—straight into the knee servo.

The Prototype staggered, metal groaning.

The assassin took the opening, his knife flashing.

He drove the blade deep into the exposed spinal port, twisting.

The Prototype let out a mechanical shriek, sparks bursting from its back.

Jian grinned. "Oh, hell yeah—"

Then the Prototype grabbed him.

Jian gasped as he was lifted off the ground, metal fingers crushing his ribs.

The assassin moved, but—too slow.

Gerard lunged, knife flashing.

One clean cut—severing the Prototype's weakened neck joint.

The lights in its eyes flickered.

Then—silence.

The massive figure collapsed, shaking the ground.

Jian wheezed, rubbing his bruised ribs. "Okay. That sucked."

Gerard knelt, pulling a small data core from the Prototype's exposed port.

[Ding! Bonus Condition Achieved – Internal Data Core Retrieved.]

Reward: $1,000,000 + System Enhancement Unlock.

Gerard smirked. "Let's go."

22:00 – The Wei Estate – The Game Begins

The grand dining hall was bathed in warm golden light, the scent of expertly prepared dishes filling the air.

Madam Wei sat at the head of the table, poised, unreadable.

Wei Meiying sat at her right, elegant, composed.

At the far end—Li Xian.

Or rather, Gerard, playing the part.

The silence was thick as wine was poured into crystal glasses.

Madam Wei's sharp eyes studied him.

"It's been too long, Xian."

Gerard's smile was polite. Controlled. "Yes, Mother."

A single raised brow.

"Mother?"

Wei Meiying smirked faintly.

Gerard held her gaze. "Would you prefer something else?"

Madam Wei chuckled softly. "No, no. It's just… surprising. You were always more formal."

Gerard lifted his wine. "People change."

She hummed. "Yes. They do."

A subtle test. She was watching everything.

His mannerisms. His speech. His smallest reactions.

Wei Meiying leaned in. "Tell us, brother. How have you been… since your return?"

Gerard's smile was flawless. "Better than expected."

A flicker of amusement in her gaze.

"Is that so?"

Madam Wei set her glass down. "Tell me, Xian… why do I feel like I don't know you anymore?"

Silence.

Gerard's expression remained neutral.

"Perhaps because you never did."

A slow, sharp smile crossed her lips.

"Perhaps."

The first round was over.

But the war had just begun.

23:35 – Escape into the Night

The Black Lantern was collapsing.

Flames licked the walls, smoke billowing through the underground facility.

Gerard, Jian, and the assassin moved fast, reaching an abandoned SUV.

Jian hotwired the vehicle, revving the engine. "Time to go!"

They sped out of the burning structure, the fire consuming everything behind them.

Gerard glanced at the data core in his hand.

This wasn't over.

It was only just beginning.

23:50 – The Hidden Observer

A darkened penthouse suite, overlooking the city.

A figure stood by the window, watching as the Black Lantern burned in the distance.

A voice, smooth, calculating.

"So. He survived."

Another voice—deeper, amused. "You expected otherwise?"

The figure turned, eyes gleaming in the dim light.

"No. But now, we see what he does next."
