Madeline's POV
I remained in his arms, his grip getting tighter as time passed by. I could stay here forever, in his arms, just buried in his warmth, hearing his heart beat against my ear.
But then my dress's embroidery started poking me as if it were jealous and wanted to break us apart.
''I...I should change.'' I said reluctantly, the gown had become uncomfortable, while his presence brought me more comfort as time passed.
His brows furrowed faintly, reluctant, like he didn't want to let go. But then, with a small nod, he loosened his hold and shifted back, giving me space.
This time it didn't feel like he was walking away or as if he was creating distance; it finally felt like he was giving me space and not the cold shoulder.
I slipped away and walked into the bathroom, closing the door gently behind me.
Inside, I stared at my reflection in the mirror for a long second. My eyes were swollen, my lips faintly trembling, and I looked ugly.
