Madeline's POV.
As dusk settled over the Fernandes estate, the garden lights were turned on, and the air filled with the scent of roses. The day's chaos had finally lulled into a quieter rhythm, and Aunt Candy, I think, gently took my hand and guided me away from the laughter.
"It's time to change, dear. Can't have our guest of honour looking anything less than stunning for the evening," she'd said with a playful wink.
I followed her through a hallway lined with family portraits. She opened a door for me, gestured inside, and left me with a cheerful, "We'll be waiting!"
I stepped into the room, closing the door softly but not locking it.
It was quieter here; my ears still hummed, unfamiliar with the silence. The faint hum of music from outside seemed to fade as my eyes fell on the dress neatly laid out near the dressing table.
