Heather stood near the garden steps, watching Adonis closely. His words weren't meant to help Caius remember anything real—no, she could tell from his tone, he was baiting him.
She should have remembered how sharp Adonis could be. Beneath the charm and the smirk, he was trouble. Trouble with a sharp mind and a sharper tongue.
"Adonis, we really have to see the doctor in a few minutes," she said, her voice calm but edged with impatience.
He tilted his head, stepping a little closer. "No, you don't. Everything that's been happening here doesn't feel normal.You're not completely being honest with me."
Why is he acting like he knows something? Heather thought. He couldn't possibly know. At most, he was just guessing.
