Chapter 13 - Ordinary Days

The days at school moved with a familiar rhythm—classrooms buzzing with quiet chatter, the sharp ring of the bell signaling the start and end of lessons, and the steady footsteps echoing through hallways lined with lockers. For once, life felt simple, predictable even, and that comfort was a balm to my restless mind.

Mornings began with the usual rush—grabbing a quick breakfast, meeting friends by the school gates, and heading together into the sprawling campus. The sun warmed the green lawns, and laughter drifted from clusters of students sharing jokes and stories before the day truly began.

Classes ranged from the mundane to the challenging. I found a certain peace in the structure of lessons—the orderly rows of desks, the crisp pages of textbooks, the steady voice of teachers guiding us through lessons on literature, math, and science. It was grounding, something to anchor me after months of chaos.

Lunch was a favorite time. The cafeteria buzzed with energy, tables packed with friends trading food, gossip, and plans for the weekend. I'd sit with my small circle—Henry, Ethan, and a few others—where conversation often drifted from schoolwork to football, movies, and the latest trending topics.

Football practice was the highlight of each day. The thrill of running on the field, the camaraderie with teammates, and the rush of adrenaline during drills brought a sense of freedom I hadn't felt in a long time. The green pitch was a place where worries faded, and all that mattered was the ball at my feet and the goal ahead.

Sometimes, after practice, we'd linger on the sidelines, tired but happy, sharing jokes or quietly watching the sun dip below the horizon. Those simple moments—exhaustion mixed with laughter—felt like pieces of a life I was slowly reclaiming.

Despite the routine and the smiles, I knew deep down that beneath this calm surface, something was stirring. But for now, I chose to focus on the normalcy, the everyday joys and struggles that made this place a second home.

Because ordinary days, after all, held the power to heal.
