Within seconds, Quilliene had floated to where Neo had fallen, taking up his head into her lap. "No, no, no!" She said, panicking. "I wish you were more careful, you twat!" She felt around his wounds, fingers delicately mustering up healing magick as she choked back a sob. "I did not watch you come here just to see you die, Neo. You promised me!"
"I'm…" Neo gasped, shaking his head and attempting to smile. "I'm fine… it's nothing, really - just a… a scratch, y'know?"
He tried to sit up, only to cry out in pain and fall back into her lap. He panted, writhing as he tried not to touch his stomach, feeling the blood rushing through him at an alarming rate. Sweat started beading at his brow as he tried to take deep breaths to calm down, looking down at the gaping wound through the hole in his shirt.
"Stop it," Quilliene said sharply. "You're going to make it worse lying so casually like that…" She couldn't see the sight he was in, tears filling her vision as Christopher did his best to help. "You idiot… stay with me, I-I need you awake."
Neo could hear the quivering of her voice, and it tore his blurred and spotted vision away from his own problems and up towards her face. He scanned her, almost as if curious, as his breathing slowed down. Reaching up, his bloody hand hovered over her cheek, and he choked out his words.
"You're… crying…" He frowned, the next phrase filled with deep meaning that could only be emphasised by his dying breath. "Sorry."
"I-I'm not crying because of you, silly, I-" She wanted so badly to lean into his touch, but his hand fell away. Quilliene watched as his head lulled to the side, his eyes closing, his body growing cold. He stopped breathing, and she could feel the life inside him drain. "No… no, no, no!"
She shook him, the tears already beginning to flow as she clutched him tightly. Quilliene could feel Christopher watching her, but she didn't care. He couldn't go. He couldn't leave her. Just as she had gotten back into his reach once more, he slipped right out of hers.
No.
It could not end like this.
Something inside of her hurt, pain in her soul that wrenched her heart so badly she thought she might die. Such an immense agony that a voice inside her whispered into her mind, and she could no longer hear anything. She screamed a silent scream, wisps of purple and green surrounded Neo's body. Quilliene herself glowed an almost bright white hue, her tears rushing out and dripping on his still form. They would stay there, melting into his skin and clothes before spreading like cobwebs, soaking into his veins. Flashes of violet shimmered over his wounds. It hurt so badly and so much, but she kept crying and the voice inside her head told her to keep going until she could no longer have any breath to scream.
Then the world was back around her, and Christopher was shouting her name. All that was left was a couple of breathless sniffles.
