Chapter 12 - Fire in the Hole

'That earlier explosion was what killed most of the wolves.' Harold thought as he leaped back and dodged two wind scythes. Midair, they turned into boomerangs and spun back towards him.

'If these ones didn't die from that, then it means that their stats are stronger than the rest of them.' Harold could already see some of them recovering from the burns and he cursed a bit.

"Grr…!" One of the wolves got frustrated and leaped at Harold and just passed through him.

'This one's attack didn't do any damage. Does that mean that only the Alpha has that [Elemental Body] skill?' Harold reasoned as he grabbed the wolf and used it to block another set of attacks headed towards him.

"In that case…!" Harold grinned and leaped into the air and used his daggers formed from [Ghostly Manipulation] and opened his mouth.

"Fireball!" He chanted and two balls of flames formed in the air and he swung them down at the wolves.

"Awoo!" The alpha howled and the wolves scattered and the fireballs harmlessly crashed into the ground, causing the earth to blow up as dust and smoke filled the area.

The trees had mostly been destroyed along with whatever lifeform was living nearby but none of the combatants spared any thought to the collateral damage.

"Thanks for being so cautious." Harold muttered and flickered to the ground. As he landed in the smoky area, his vision was impended.

'Just as I thought.' Harold smirked and closed his eyes before opening them again.

 "[Appraisal]"

Lines of text and numbers appeared in the air but Harold ignored them for now. After all, their only purpose was to help him locate his prey.

"They jumped at random so they're scattered at the moment." Harold said and decided to change Job to an assassin.

His footsteps were silent as he slowly reaped the lives of five wolves in complete calm.

"Rawr?" The Alpha blinked in shock as it looked at the limp bodies of its men. Anger colored its eyes red and it raised his head and howled to the (theoretical) moon.

"ARWWOOOO!" bones began to creak as the wolf's body turned gigantic. After its transformation, a pure red, ten-feet-tall wolf stood angrily as it looked at the ghost before it.

"Of course. When you can't win, you go titan. Is that some kind of villain cliché?" Harold rolled his eyes and the wolf smirked and raised its head to the ceiling.

'Wait, can wolves' smirk?' Harold stupidly thought before his Perception warned him and he hurriedly raised [Ghostly Manipulation] and turned it into an umbrella-shaped shield and covered himself.

BANG! The sound arrived the same time with the attack and smashed Harold into the ground. He could have sworn he heard something break that definitely wasn't his back.

'What was that?' Harold thought as he phased through the rocks that landed on top of him. Turns out, the rock also had the same special effect the walls and floors had.

'So, as long as they are a part of the dungeon, they can interact with me. Interesting.' Harold vaguely thought he would have liked to research it further but the attacks did not end.

"Grrr!" The Alpha emitted a low growl and Harold felt the wind kick up and increase in speed until it became a minocycline.

"Uh-oh." The cyclone swept up the rocks and wood branches and began spinning them with an intensity that could rip even metal in an instant.

'That thing would probably kill me if I get caught up in it.' Harold smiled and looked at the Alpha.

"Luckily, I'm grateful that the only thing that didn't increase was your intelligence. And not the magic kind." Harold smirked and pointed at the remaining surviving wolves that were dragged by the centrifugal force and were shredded in the cyclone, not even leaving behind any dying cries.

"You see, physical force doesn't affect ghosts. But it does affect wolves." Harold honestly wasn't expecting that to happen. Perhaps it was a lucky coincidence or just the wolf being stupid after it grew larger but it just took care of a couple of headaches for him.

"Now, you're the only one left." Harold pointed his hand at the Alpha and it roared with a mixture of grief, pain and anger and the cyclone kicked up in speed and headed in his direction.

"Time for some omnidirectional maneuvering." Harold grinned as a cold light flashed in his eyes. Using the floating skill unique to ghosts and [Ghostly Manipulation] to zip around.

The cyclone howled past his ears, but missed him.. After missing its target, it split into numerous smaller pieces and changed directions as they headed back to him.

"I guess it's time to use that move that they do in movies all the time. Redirecting the attack back to the sender." Harold muttered and changed trajectory and zipped to the Alpha.

The wolf howled and lunged towards him but Harold was already prepared for that. He may not have been able to catch its movements at full speed, but he could predict where it was going to move.

"You know." Harold zipped down, sliding under the wolf's belly and narrowly avoiding its claws.

"… your attacks are too simple!" the weak spot of any living creature was the same. The one place that had to remain tender and lead to the most fatal place in a body. The forbidden attack area.

'I should probably stop glazing it.' Harold looked at the anus of the wolf and a [Fireball] condensed in the palm of his hand and he used [Ghostly Manipulation] to thin it out as much as possible.

"Combined Move – Thorn Burst." Of course, this spell was not recognized by the system and was just him naming it. Still, it brought a sense of exhilaration.

'It's over.' Harold thought and slammed the spell into the rectum of the monster.

The Alpha froze in the air as its body turned red. The spell tunneled through its body, bypassing its resistance and roasting it from within

"…" The wolf tried to let out a roar but its lungs and throat were burned to ashes and it died without the opportunity to cry out.

"…I wish it would have exploded." Harold muttered as he gazed at the pile of ash turned around.

"Well, you know what they say. If there is no explosion, make yours." He flicked a spell behind him and turned around and coolly walked away.

Just in time, an explosion ignited the concentrated air and wood, turning the battle scene into a burnt graveyard.
