Chapter 118: Ancient Origins

Every time the Rinnegan appears in the world, it heralds the return of the highest level of power this world can offer. Beyond its mythic arsenal of Six Paths Techniques and its ability to control the empty shell left behind after extracting all nine tailed beasts—the Gedo Statue—the most terrifying ability it grants is undoubtedly the Rinne Rebirth technique. This power to overturn life and death shatters the natural law that separates the two, upending the balance of the world.

In a normal world, if the power to control life and death is seized, the mechanisms that keep things running inevitably begin to falter. And even if the chances are small, in the infinite sweep of time, someone will eventually be born who can wield this power—someone like Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, who became virtually immortal, or her son, Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths.

The Sage of Six Paths was the first chosen one of this world. With the Rinnegan, he used Yin-Yang Release to seal his own mother, split the Ten Tails into the nine tailed beasts, and established the fundamental laws that govern chakra. His legends have been passed down through generations as sacred myth.

After that, the Rinnegan vanished from the world. Even his sons—Indra and Asura—couldn't awaken it. It wasn't until Uchiha Madara, having stolen Hashirama's cells and fused the chakra of Asura and Indra, that the Rinnegan reappeared.

Though the Rinnegan is related to the Sharingan, they are essentially different powers. One might say the Sharingan is the gateway, but to truly unlock the Rinnegan's potential, one must fuse Yin and Yang chakra—something only Madara, in his dying days, achieved through unnatural means.

Then there was Sasuke Uchiha, who only awakened the Rinnegan Sharingan after receiving the Sage of Six Paths' power directly—an unprecedented fusion only possible due to divine intervention.

In short, Yin-Yang Release is the cornerstone of the Rinnegan's birth.

Mizuki understood this well. In his view, when the Sage of Six Paths split Yin and Yang into five elements, he wasn't just showing off his power or trying to be dramatic—he was setting a limit. Every world has a power ceiling. Like in Mizuki's previous life, after WWII, nuclear weapons had to be contained or the world would descend into chaos. The same principle applied here.

If the Rinnegan were to become too common, the world would collapse. What if two Uchiha awoke it and fought over a woman? What if a family dispute escalated into a battle that reduced villages to ash?

This is why Mizuki believed the Sage split Yin and Yang—not out of kindness, but to lock away the keys to godhood. And it worked. Even the descendants of the Sage—like Hashirama, Madara, Itachi, and Sasuke—couldn't reach it without extreme conditions.

But Kaguya… she was the original. As the progenitor of chakra, she could ignore those rules. And so could her clones—or those who carried her complete, unfiltered bloodline.

And so, Mizuki's clone—made from Sasuke's genetic material and empowered by the All-Purpose Serum and Curse Mark Chakra—did not suffer from the same limitations. This clone never experienced the division of Yin and Yang. Its body, unshackled by generations of diluted blood, had the potential to awaken the Rinnegan in its purest form.

Was it dangerous? Absolutely. But Mizuki believed it could work.

He also knew the risks. A newly born being, barely conscious, suddenly possessing godlike power—it was like handing a loaded gun to a baby. Mizuki dared not touch it himself. Only a fool would try to wrestle divine power from a child-turned-weapon.

So he watched from afar as Deidara and Sasori walked toward their doom.

The clone's instincts were raw, but the Shinra Tensei—the repulsive force—activated naturally, rejecting everything. The puppet attacks were blown away, and even Deidara's mighty explosions were useless.

But when the clone finally recognized Sasori and Deidara as enemies—it used Chibaku Tensei.

From the sky, earth, and rubble surged upward. A black sphere formed, and everything nearby—trees, earth, puppets, Deidara's owl, and even the two "Akatsuki" members—were dragged toward it. The terrain warped into a massive stone satellite.

From far away, Mizuki's team stopped to stare in awe.

"What… is that?" someone whispered.

"Is that… ninjutsu?" Hiashi muttered, dumbstruck.

"In theory," Mizuki replied, "but that's not something mortals should wield."

Hiashi stared at the sky—and for the first time, he recalled the forbidden texts passed down through generations of the Hyuga clan. Tales of gods and eyes that could birth and end worlds—tales once dismissed as fantasy.

They were real.

But as the awe settled, the black sphere in the sky cracked.

A thunderous explosion erupted.

The Chibaku Tensei began to fall apart.

Something was breaking free from the inside.

And once again, the world held its breath.
