Chapter 2 - A New partnership and Unlikely trust

Seeds of Trust and Ambition

The following morning, Rose invited a reputable merchant to her mansion, a man known for his honesty and skill in the empire's bustling business world. Alongside him was a talented designer she had arranged to meet, both eager to hear the young lady's ambitious proposal.

With a calm, composed expression, Rose spread her neatly drawn jewelry designs and elegant clothing sketches before them. The merchant's eyes sparkled with curiosity, while the designer's gaze was fixed on the details of her work.

"I wish to open a jewelry and clothing shop," Rose stated confidently. "You will be responsible for manufacturing these designs, but only under the conditions I set. The quality must be impeccable."

The merchant nodded, impressed by her precision.

"Lady Celestia, your designs are truly exquisite. I can assure you of my loyalty and dedication. We shall bring your vision to life."

The designer, equally impressed, added, "I have never seen such intricate and graceful designs before. I would be honored to work under your guidance."

A contract was sealed that day. As the merchant and designer left the mansion, Rose couldn't help but feel relieved.

"Everything is progressing smoothly. As long as their loyalty remains true, my shops will soon thrive."

The next day marked the grand opening of her shops. The merchant and designer were present, reaffirming their dedication to their work. Rose rewarded their loyalty with generous payments, promising even more if they continued to meet her standards.

But something lingered at the back of her mind—managing two shops alone would be overwhelming. She needed reliable support.

Without hesitation, Rose summoned her assistant, her lady-in-waiting, Lily Advent.

Lily, a humble commoner with gentle eyes and a calm demeanor, entered the room with a respectful bow. Despite her composed appearance, Rose noticed the tension in her gaze.

"Lily," Rose began, her tone both commanding and reassuring. "I require your assistance. Managing the shops will be impossible on my own. I need someone I can trust by my side."

"M-My Lady?" Lily stammered, her voice laced with surprise. "You... You trust me with something so important?"

"Yes, I do," Rose replied firmly. "But before we proceed, tell me about your family. You seem to be carrying a heavy burden."

Lily hesitated, her fingers nervously twisting the fabric of her dress. "My family... It's just me, my sick younger brother, and my mother. My father passed away from an illness when I was a child. We've been struggling ever since."

"I see." Rose's expression softened. "You must have gone through a lot. And yet, you continue to work with such dedication."

"I cannot afford to fail," Lily admitted, her eyes filled with determination. "I need to support my family, and I cannot let personal matters affect my duties. I will work hard and never betray your trust."

Rose smiled gently.

"Good. From now on, you will be responsible for organizing the shops. Hiring workers, maintaining accounts, everything. You will also accompany me to social gatherings and palace banquets."

Lily's eyes widened. "Palace banquets?"

"Yes," Rose continued, her gaze sharp. "You need to gain experience as my lady-in-waiting, and I need someone reliable by my side to help me form connections. Also, it will be a good opportunity for you to find skilled workers for the shops."

"...I understand, My Lady." Lily's voice trembled with a mixture of fear and gratitude. "I promise I will not disappoint you. You have my loyalty."

"And you have my support," Rose replied. "Don't worry about your brother's health. I will make sure he receives proper treatment. Your loyalty will be rewarded, Lily."

Lily's eyes welled up with tears, but she kept her composure and bowed deeply.

"Thank you, Lady Celestia. I will serve you with all my heart."

As Lily left the room, Rose leaned back in her chair, feeling a sense of accomplishment.

"I now have the support I need. With Lily's help, I can manage the shops while also navigating the complicated social circles of this world. One step at a time, I will secure a peaceful future for myself."

But as Rose's ambitions grew, so did the unseen shadows waiting to disrupt her plans.
